Hi All for Virgin Mobile, there is a DIY for install of 2.2 VM phone, this involves using a Spring ROM, then removing some of the Sprint Programs that aren't compatible with VM. It's not on this forum and I can't recall the link, try using google to hunt for it.

Anything you can post back would be great. Especially if a different fix is needed. I do understand in the port of JIT compiler(what everyne on the 2.1 wanted out of 2.2 the most next to apps2sd) is it takes a few power cycles to set in correctly as well so maybe a few times running the battery down and recharging will let it cycle properly. Not sure if this was the ported version having na issue or 2.2 in general.

I just assumed they were referring to the known method we've been talking about all over the forums?

I have been having some issues after the update as well. For the most part, it's working ok, but now it force closes the system. As in, the phone is sitting on the table and all of a sudden I get the FC vibrate sequence (1 vibrate, pause, 3 fast vibrates together--it's what it does when an app force closes), then after the vibrates, I can't get the screen to turn on, with either the power/end button, or by sliding the phone open. Have to pull the battery and restart. Has done this twice now since last night.

Also, last night it removed some of my icons from my home pages. The apps were still on the phone, just not on the home pages. Then after the system force close last night, it had removed 3 of my apps. I've been using these apps for a while with no issues so I'm sure it's not them.

I have done several restarts and a hard reset, and no better. Almost seems worse after the hard reset, actually. Also I don't root, so this is a stock phone. If anyone has experienced this or has any ideas how to fix it, I'd appreciate the comments/help.

thanks!

Yeah I was reporting the same issue except I didn't know what the vibrations meant (so thanks for that). It only happened 2 or 3 times that day, then stopped. Didn't notice any vanishing apps.

I would like to try and check my GPS assist for google maps, but I am not certain how to access that. When I try to open google maps all I get is the spinning white circle until I exit out. I tried to access it through going through the applications menu and was able to pull up many different things, but all of htem were grayed out and inaccessible. If someone could tell me how to use GPS assist I would be very grateful.

Well, I opened up the menu and enabled both satellites and wifi off my home wifi, but google still simple spins endlessly. Looks like I'll be sticking with Sprint Nav from here on out. It does the job well enough.

Sure!

1. Copy this file to the root of your SD card. Do not unzip.
2. Power down and reboot into recovery (Vol Down + Call + End Call), and select "apply sd card :update.zip". Watch your phone flash (the "Updating Modem" step takes the longest, so don't panic).

That's it!

If you've rooted and removed any stock apps, read this:

Simple steps to upgrade to 2.2 (for folks whose OTA update fails)

As for whether VM will get it, I know that the main reason Sprint is getting it for sure is that it was promised as a feature and an incentive to upgrade from the Moment, which they refuse to put 2.2 on (even though it's supposed to be a better phone). So there won't be that same pressure for VM, but maybe you guys will get lucky anyway. I hope so.
2.2.1 is terrible.

No more Groups, no more speed dial. The phone is always locking up on me. I hate it and so does my daughter. Handcent messaging doesnt notify you anymore when you get a text either.

Wow, did you guys not use your phones with 2.1?!

2.1 was AWFUL on the Intercept. 2.2 is a joy to use now!

other than a few freezes once or twice a week it was alright mostly you come to expect minor freezez on a smart phone

Maybe they can just reload the 2.2 software from scratch rather than a reset.

Using the flash method from sdx seems to provide better results than the ota for some reason. Maybe that is just the key. Sometimes a bad flash can cause issues. A hard reset or fresh flash are always good starting points.

One of our two phones took the upgrade. I had to use this nice work-around to get it on the second phone. For us, the 2.2 version is at least twice as fast as 2.1 and does not lock up like the 2.1. Thanks, Bill.

My wife hasn't had any complaints of lost calls yet. They pulled it due to the fact that many people bricked their phones upgrading. Somewhere about 50% succes rate or something like that. I think they need to have an appropriate OTW method rather than only OTa to back up the issue of getting this to flash properly.

Exclamation Android 2.2 update for Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept's

I have contacted Samsung and asked about the 2.2 android update, they said to contact Virgin Mobile. I then contacted Virgin Mobile and asked to speak to a higher authority about the update because the customer support woman said a 2.2 update was no where to be found and had no information about it on the phone. The first question I asked the upper supervisor was "I was wondering when the Samsung Intercept would receive the 2.2 update since Sprint has already received it?" She hung up on me That frustrated me so then I called back) after talking to another Virgin Mobile representative and asking the same question, same thing happened, HUNG UP ON ME!!! so I tried again. (I'm not giving up!) The 3rd Rep. I reached said there was no information about the update and as soon as they receive it they will send a text out about getting it.......

Got upgrade link sent to both of my intercepts last month. I touched the link and it started and then another link popped up and that worked. About a 20 minute process. My wife pressed "remind me later" haven' seen it since. Sprint tech said when you do that it pushes to a world wide set of batch ques. Sprint could not re-Que it, so he called Samsung. Forty five minutes later Samsung could not re-Que. Samsung said that Google is the one who ques the upgrades. The version is 2.2.1 and Adobe will not work (ver. 10.1 or any other) with Intercepts processor; so forget about watching any "flash" videos. You might be able to watch flash videos if you install Skyfire 3.0. Skyfire reinterprets flash videos so the can be viewed. Can't wait to dump Samsung (had similar false promises on my UpStage) an possibly dump Sprint.

I received the OTA update on three Sprint Intercepts 12/18/10. One seems to have no problems at all. Bro's would not ring/provide any notice of incoming calls, would crash and lose data connection, multiple Force Closes. Mine would Force Close for no apparent reason, Settings, Launcher, not additional apps, android components.

Search forums and consensus seemed to recommend manual update from sd card. Bro's is functioning fine, battery does seem to drain faster however.

The third phone, my personal one of course...I did a factory reset, applied the update from sd card and it worked a few days, then I added LauncherPro (icon packs and customized icons/shortcuts) and just a few apps that I felt were needed. It started slowing down, LP (which I loved and actually purchased) would Force close at least 4 times a day, sometimes when phone just sitting on my desk. Then the screen started flipping, going into landscape mode but upside down from keyboard. I did another Factory Reset, installed the update from sd, installed LP, worked a few days...then started turning itself off, softkeys would light up randomly while phone sitting on desk, android components (settings, launcher) would force close.

I'm on my 4th update...my phone now states my sd card is damaged (ordered a new one Class 4 vs Class 2). I no longer have LauncherPro Plus installed , I tried the phone without any apps loaded and while it was not pleasing it seemed to work, I waited a day then I installed ADW.Launcher (AnderWeb), phone seems faster and so far stable. I've slowly added apps from the market:
Handcent SMS (handcent_admin)
Alarm Clock Launcher (Slipstream Apps)
Dolphin HD Browser (Dolphin Browser)
ColorNote Notepad Notes (Notes)
Barcode Scanner (ZXing Team)
TweetDeck (TweetDeck Inc)
DigiClock Widget (David Goemans)
Clarus battery widget (Konsentia.com)
Quick Settings (Sergej Shafarenka)
WifiOnOff Widget (CurveFish)

So far...seems to be functional..but only on day three of update 4.

My wifes intercept just asked her to do the update today. So far it works great.
2.2.1 is what hers is now running.

And our banks web banking now works on her phone. But still fails on my Epic.

So far she has had none of the bugs you guys have reported in this thread.

My wife took the upgrade yesterday morning and it is working great. I've got an Evo, so using the 2.1 intercept was painful, it is so much nicer with the 2.2 update. Faster, more responsive, no lockups or weird behavior. If there was a problem with the OTA, it appears they may have resolved and started sending them out again.

Default Problems after 2.2 upgrade

I have the 2.2 update on my Intercept. I have had alot of problems since the update. They did some type of repair to it at Sprint yesterday, but it is still very slow...and force closes. When it rings, it has a very short ringtone. Sprints solution is to replace it with a new one with 2.1. Also I tether with it. I saw something about WiFi tehering. How does this work?

Let them replace it. It very well could be a bad phone. Try the replacement and take the update and you should be fine. My wife's intercept is still going strong.

Intercept wii never run flash; intercept's cpu is too slow. Skyfire works only 50%. Xfinity does not work at all and youtube only works half the time and half of youtube will not play on mobile. In conclusion Intercept is old junk. On the other hand Adobe has only written one program in their history that worked.

mine updated the instant i activated it..and it was a bit weird. Remember andriod is an actual Linux operating system not some small firmware. Whenever you install one os on top of another you have a chance for issues. I had to factory reset mine and everything has been great since.
