* Additional application speed improvements courtesy of JIT implementation
* Integration of Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine into the Browser application
* Increased Microsoft Exchange support (security policies, auto-discovery, GAL look-up, calendar synchronization, remote wipe)
* Improved application launcher with shortcuts to Phone and Browser applications * USB tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality
* Added an option to disable data access over mobile network
* Updated Market application with batch and automatic update features
* Quick switching between multiple keyboard languages and their dictionaries
* Voice dialing and contact sharing over Bluetooth
* Support for numeric and alphanumeric passwords
* Support for file upload fields in the Browser application * Support for installing applications to the expandable memory * Adobe Flash 10.1 support(THIS HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED YET TO MY KNOWLEDGE)
* Support for extra high DPI screens (320 dpi), such as 4" 720p (This doesn't change our resolution. Just provides support for more screens!)
If you have a Virgin Mobile Intercept we perhaps need a seperate post although if your really brave enough to try this update on your phone you have already read the issues you face. VM is supposedly looking at an update release for its customers but this is not it.
First things first. If your phone is not stock you will not be able to update.
If you would like to get back to stock these are the steps you should take.
Taken from SDX (Thanks Dodgejcr and Inxane for compilation of instructions.)
Thanks to some nifty thinking by IceMank121 on irc and Apothecaryaaron for having logcat running when the update hit we have the zip for the official 2.2 update.
This still has to be installed with a bone stock 2.1 phone. Stockrom is not 'stock enough'
A quick way to get to stock is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806083 (Remove .md5 and flash thru SWupdater)
Use the drivers here when you put the device into download mode (Vol Dn + End + Talk). Steps to flash
1. Download and install SWUpgrade for the moment from here, then install LouZiffer's patch.
2. Download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806083 (Remove .md5 and flash thru SWupdater) and put it in C:\Program Files (Program Files (x86) if you are on 64 bit)\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary. DELETE THE FILE ALREADY IN THERE OR YOU MAY PERMA-BRICK YOUR INTERCEPT
3. Start your Intercept in Download Mode (Vol Dn + Camera + End) and plug it into the computer. Install the driver that you can download at the top of this post.
4. Open SWUpgrade and walk through the steps.
5.
6. PROFIT!
You have to use the stock recovery. (thats why its named update.zip)PLACE IN ROOT FOLDER OF SD CARD NOT SDX/ZIP and flashed just like everything else. This has been confirmed 3 times to work.
Please flash at your own risk I am not responsible for what happens

Here is what we know so far.
This doesn't include Touchwiz at all so you will lose the Notification Widgets. (Attempting a port for the Moment and Intercept to include without needing Touchwiz. Thanks again Dodgejcr and the original port for Sense we are studying by JChisurf on XDA.)
Contacts.apk is also different. No longer have groups. Also to assign ringtones you have to go to view the contact. Hit menu and then options. Ringtone assignment is the first I believe. The second is to send all calls to voicemail from that contact. It works fine. But it is different from the Touchwiz contact apk we were all used to on 2.1.
Notes is no longer available (Market has plenty of options)
Apps added:
Sprint Navigation
Sprint Hotspot
Sprint Zone
************************************************** *******************
If you seem to be missing contacts try this: (thanks Jime2ct)
I thought I lost all of my contacts after the upgrade. I found them. Maybe it'll work for you.
Go to 'Contacts'.
Hit 'Menu'
Tap 'Display Options'
Scroll down, if you have a gmail email address listed, tap it to open it, then you should find... 'System Group: ........' Check all of those and hopefully you'll find what you're looking for.
************************************************** ******************
Livewallpapers from 2.1 works on Froyo.
You have to have custom recovery to apply.
Must be rooted
- Download this zip file and place it in /sdx/zip folder
- Power off your phone.
- Boot into recovery mode (press volume down + call + power).
- Apply the zip from the SD card using that recovery mode menu option.
- Reboot. You're done!
Tap on home screen hold. when add to home screen comes up choose>wallpapers>Live Wallpapers
The zip will install a Live Wallpapers App. After that just grab some free Live wallpaper apps from the Android Market.

Other things please let me know. I will update this thread. This is an informational post so please only post missing items (features added or lost) I would rather not discuss rooting in this thread. That is fully covered on SDX and I would hate to take away any more foloowers but I like both SDX and Android Forums so I will provide links when and where I am able to.
As I get more info I will post here but please read the above before attempting the update.

Doesn't mean it will happen, I'm far removed from insider status. Samsung is remarkably good at keeping update info close to the vest in contrast to HTC. It's likely that there will very little lead time between the announcement of the update and its release.

I am not sure if this is true or not but my wife recently called Sprint regarding some issues with her Intercept. (Prox sensor / others) She was to told by the rep on the phone that they were aware of the issues and a software update was coming early December to address many performance issues. Hopefully this is true and will take care of the flaky prox issues she is having. Has anyone else heard this?
Nu here but just wanted to ask jeremy561 what he meant by prox issues. Because my notification bar sometimes doesnt slide down and I was told by virgin if the problem proceeds then I might have to send the phone back.

Someone mentioned if you hold down the "arrow" key that brings up a list of the apps you have opened recently and then close it. You will then be able to use the notification bar.
It works for me.

I was referring to the proximity sensor. The one that when you put the phone up near your face it turns off the touch screen so you don't hang up on people. If my wife moves the phone even slightly off of her ear while she is talking on it the touch screen comes back on. She is always hanging up on people because of this so now she uses speakerphone almost all of the time.
I found how to get it but depends on what phone you have. Just look it up on youtube and please be careful you dont want to mess up your phone. Im just trying to advance the impatient waiters. Im still trying to find it for my phone tho.

Well, considering you're in the Intercept forum, it shouldn't depend that much.
I'd rather wait for the offical 2.2 update from Sprint. Not that I haven't considered going that route.
I don't have Sprint, I have Virgin Mobile. Will I still get 2.2?
There's still no official word on that yet.
My own opinion, they probably won't as they don't have a good track record of putting out updates for other phones that they've had in their line up.
Remember that's just my opinion.
Thats it 2morrow Im calling my phone carrier to find out when this updated comes out. I have Virgin Mobile which is owned by Sprint so maybe the update might problably come later to Virgin Mobile.

Has 2.2 come out yet?
Let me ask a question that will truly prove my ignorance. What IS 2.2?
Like, what's the difference? Will we even be able to tell? This is my first android phone and it came w/ 2.1, so I don't know what comes/occurs with an OS update.
As for whether VM will get it, I know that the main reason Sprint is getting it for sure is that it was promised as a feature and an incentive to upgrade from the Moment, which they refuse to put 2.2 on (even though it's supposed to be a better phone). So there won't be that same pressure for VM, but maybe you guys will get lucky anyway. I hope so.

2.2 is the Newest Version of Android Software Frozen Yogurt...aka FroYo!
Previous verisons - Doughnut - Eclair - etc. 2.3 is to be Gingerbread.
They are just tweaking their System and improving it.
The Froyo release for the intercept is RUMORED to be addressing the Soft keys and Proximity Sensors on this phone.
Slightly surpised that they are doing this for the intercept since they have left the hero for dead. Had to Root and Flash a custom Rom to get Froyo.....

"Just got off of the phone with Sprint Tech Support after noticing that the website now lists the Intercept as shipping with Android 2.2
After talking the Technician I found out the following info:
New Samsung Intercepts are shipping with Android 2.2, all of us that already own them will have to wait, I was told that they had the Android 2.2 update ready and because of a leak someone got ahold of they screwed up alot of phones so they pulled the update back. But I was also reassured that the update will be out in the next 1-2 weeks and would of been out already if not for the leak. It will be an OTA update and is currently just waiting to be released. According to the Tech, they had to replace and repair alot of phones because of this leak and that is what the hold up is."
I have the intercept for VM as well.. I'm guessing i'll probably end up having to root it to get 2.2.

This info may indeed be true BUT similar info from these sources regardless of device have been notoriously inaccurate. Enough so that I automatically take it as BS. I have yet to see one person claim to have a stock 2.2 Intercept, nor have I seen complaints about an official or leaked update bricking phones.
I had to take my POS Intrcept to the Sprint store today because it drops over half of my calls... The store manaher told me to expect the 2.2 update next week.
This would be so great! I got a market update yesterday and was wondering about 2.2. Hopefully the phone won't lag so bad after this, that or it could slow it down more I guess. Thanks for the news, Pasta!

called and confirmed!! I could take it to the store today to get the update or wait for it to get pushed to my phone today or within the next couple days!! SOOOO EXCITED!
