It may have been mentioned before, but I've seemed to notice I lose an internet connection for a bit, whenever I try to download a lot of things.
It's happened twice, but that's enough for me to feel like it's a trend, and I'll see if it continues to happen.
A couple days ago I downloaded probably 7 or 8 apps from the market, and by the 7th or so, it seemed to stall, and not do anything. I killed all the running apps, and then tried to play some of the games I downloaded, and none of them were able to connect to the internet (for high scores, or for the instructions, or whatever else).
Same thing happened again yesterday.
It happens to me all the time when using the stock browser. The EVDO will just stop sendind data. Sprint even swapped out the phone. Replacement does the same thing. You can either wait several minutes for it to start back. Or power off and on the phone.
I think there should be a way to fix email servers in our phone. My email does not stay in when I receive a message that I have email, and I have not been able to delete what is in the trash folder. Is there any work arounds to this yet?
Please help...
On my Moment, just brought up mail.google.com which shows most of the screens I can see on my PC. It shows Inbox, Starred, Sent... Spam. Going to the Spam screen shows all my Spam, including Delete Forever, and a box for each message that could be checked if I had a stylus. They forgot to put in Select: All, None, Read...

Ever since my CL14 update I've experienced the following:
USB functionality disappears in the notification area after ~30min being connected to my desktop via USB cable. The button just disappears. Even using MountUSB doesn't work so it seems to be a complete failure of USB including charging.
Data connection sometimes goes out for several minutes causing an interruption in downloads or any kind of continual/semi-continual (IM programs) connections.
Battery life is still something to be desired - i've noticed sometimes my phone getting hotter even while in good signal.
Sporadic call dropping during long calls - one hour or more, then more frequent after but never more than a few times - even while in full signal areas.
Unrelated to CL14 (maybe?):
My trackpad doesn't seem to work very well or not at all. Could just be a bad pad?
Edit: call drops seem to be more frequent now as it's happening earlier in calls. Starting to think it's more my location than anything even though I have full signal. Getting garbly voice on the other person's end or random call drops. Never happened before CL14 but might not be related. Could be a phone issue. Gonna hit a sprint repair location after work.

Can someone else corroborate some of these? If so, I'll add it to the list. (Not saying I don't believe you Cos, just trying to keep the list to issues that are widespread, not just individual phones)

battery life is Ok, I can live with it, but it doesn't last as long as I expect. The heat issue I noticed more lately. Even with no program in the foreground and the screen off it'll heat up considerably.

First off the phone doesn't contain a server. It's a client and it isn't a very good one. The server is located wherever you get your email from and it all depends on the type of server you're connected to. Basically there are two different types, IMAP and POP. With IMAP messages stay on the server and you just read what's on the server. When you delete messages from the client it deletes them on the server. With POP you pull messages off the server and they're physically located in the client. I'm using POP servers but this email client doesn't act like it's connecting to a POP server. It acts more like IMAP.
I too had problems deleting emails until I heard someone say not to delete them. I deleted my account and recreated it. Messages started showing up and I left them there, but when I checked my mail from my home computer (it's set to delete them from the server) messages on the phone disappear. They're not in the inbox and not in the trash.
It sounds like you have another email client running somewhere that is also checking your email and when it pulls them off the server they disappear from the phone. But it would help to know if you're using POP or IMAP.

I swung by the Sprint store yesterday. Seems the data connection issue is a known issue of the phone but not widespread and if you have equipment insurance you can get a replacement (mine is coming Monday). My trackpad is also defective. The dropped calls were, mostly, caused because I had roaming set to automatic and not home network only so it was hitting all the other networks' towers before Sprint and dropping randomly during calls.
I forgot to mention to the tech that USB functionality was FUBAR'd sometimes. But I've seen a few people posting about spotty performance for USB.
I'm hoping, HOPING, the battery life might be a bit better on the new phone I'm getting. Maybe it'll have a 1500 mAh battery instead of the 1440.
If only I hadn't gone into the store after work I might've been in more tech-oriented mindset (I work as a tech for a large casino corporation so after work mindset is not for talking tech).
Wish there were an easier way to root the moment so I could kill all the pre-packaged apps. Screw moxier, bejeweled, and the Sprint stuff. Might play with custom ROMs on this soon-to-be-replaced phone so I have some experience working with the tools so I don't risk my shiny new one when it comes in.
Something that is annoying me and maybe it's just me;
When I have the phone laying flat on a desk and go to pick it up the screen shuts off for a second or two and then comes back on, which is normally the second or two that I'm trying to press the answer button.
For a bit I was having the exact opposite issue as taintedblue and my screen was shutting off every 15 seconds during a call, which made navigating through a touch tone menu very annoying.
I'm pretty sure both issues have to with the proximity sensor.
-Eli
I also have the issue when picking up the phone off my desk, but not consistently. It usually causes me to miss the call. The CL14 update seems to have made it occur a little more frequently. No idea how to troubleshoot it.
Ok folks I went to my local store yesterday and this is what I found out:
1. there is a sensor on the top left hand side of the front of the phone. If you have a screen protector and it is bubbled up, this can cause the phone screen to turn off, hence the inability to answer or finish a call
Fingers near or on top of this sensor, even shadows can cause the phone's screen to turn off as well...
2. If you turn off your phone at night before going to bed and leave it charging, there is a chance that you (we) can get 20% more battery life. I used to leave my phone on charging during the night, as I was using the alarm in it to wake me up, this only causes charging to be on a loop and apparently its what causes the phone to not charge completelly.
3. Email synchronization issuees have to do with microsoft outlook or gsync maybe even gmail. My emails are being forwarded automatically to gmail for some reason and I still have not been able to find the choice to not forward those emails...
4. version 2.1 is supposed to take care of a lot of issues for our phones, including the ability to maybe, just maybe delete and uninstall software that comes with the phone, battery life issues, and other problems...
so stay tuned...

Reason: adding info
Phone hangs, doesn't respond to END press, after BT errors.
I now have in my possession a 5th Samsung Moment, after the first 4
that I suffered through presented perpetual UAM
(Unwanted Airplane Mode) problems.
Well, my 5th Moment is not a refurb, but brand spanking new,
which Sprint in Augusta,SC shipped to me fresh in it's official packaging.
And yet, this phone still exhibits a critical problem. It can lose all cellular
data capability and cause calls to hang, such that you cannot END them
without having to remove the battery.
I am convinced that this is the exact same condition as UAM, but that
CL14, which came pre-installed on this phone, effectively masks over it by
not allowing the phone to falsely trigger the "Airplane Mode Enabled" flag.
Please understand, that I have done extensive testing with this new
phone, as well as with all of my previous 4 Samsung Moments. This critical
lock-up of the cellular radio can be reproduced by streaming a 128K radio
steam while listening with any stereo bluetooth device attached.
It does not happen right away, but eventually the MediaPlayer will
experience an error that will throw your phone into this vulnerable
condition.
E/MediaPlayer( 3637): error (-11, 0)
If this error occurs while listening with a wired headset,
the stream will continue but the audio will stop.
It is then easily recoverable, as all you have to do is restart the stream.
Annoying, and should be fixed, but no problem after that.
The cellular still works and everything is A-OK.
But when you are using a stereo bluetooth headset,
another error immediately follows the -11....
(-38, 0)
After this, no audio. If you place a call now, it will stay in progress and will
not connect. You will not be able to end. You will have to remove your battery to proceed.
This happens with every media streaming app on the market.
I am skeptical whether or not an Android update or 2.1 is going to fix this.
To me, it seems that this will require a Firmware update for the code which
controls the cellular radio.
I expect for all the features that I am paying for to work correctly and reliably.
I refused to settle for anything less.
Until then, Sprint and Samsung will just have to keep sending me new phones.
my samsung moment stopped taking a charge on friday.
i took it into a sprint service center where they told me that the phone was fine but that i had a "bad battery." they didn't have any there to replace the bad one so i have to wait until tomorrow, tuesday, BUT they did offer the 2.1 upgrade when i return!
i did notice that the battery was not lasting as long as it had been on wednesday, thursday or friday.

The problem with 1.5 and Android phones on Sprint is that there is no native CDMA and was slapped in last minute so it can be buggy at times. 2.1 (hell 1.6) has native CDMA in its telephony stack. That should clear up a lot of problems with calls, drops, and network issues. Hopefully.
3. Email synchronization issuees have to do with microsoft outlook or gsync maybe even gmail. My emails are being forwarded automatically to gmail for some reason and I still have not been able to find the choice to not forward those emails...
I have the same problems you described in your previous post (even though I found a way around it) and I don't use Outlook and it appears that gsync is for use with a Mac which I also don't use.
Where are your emails being forwarded from?

Whoa, 2.1 already? I wonder if I'll get that today when I get my replacement phone.

As usual, the people at the service center are clueless. You will not be getting 2.1 tomorrow.

I believe I am using pop...for my other email server account and imap for my gmail account...
Mt phone frequently does the blinking screen when a call is coming in and it makes it very hard to answer. It also is doing this thing where I will go to call log and select the top number and it will jump down to the last number and call it. This has happened to me at least 10 times. I drop calls I have periods where I can't connect to the internet or get/send texts. My BIGGEST complaint is the damn screen while in a phone call! It is adding a third call while I am talking. It randomly adds a call, which then I have to hang up BOTH calls and call the first person back. IS the HTC hero having this many problems? just wondering
You mentioned earlier that some messages disappear. From which server are they disappearing from? Or are they from both?
They were dissapearing from both... I revamped my phone but only registered for my gmail account... I have not had this issue anymore. Thank you for your help!

IMAP.
I found out that I had gmail set to retrieve messages from my internet server, thats why I was not getting them in my computer. I also decided to just have gmail on my phone...I get enough messages there as it is...
Thanks again for your help.
E911 functionality is mandatory by FCC law... The moment performs to current e911 functionality requirements (E911, as the current law states, is regulated by the cell tower you are on. There is no coordinate location requirements that are mandatory until 2012)
Where is the button that is like a widget that you can place on the phone's desktop to be able to call 911 in an emergency?
I browsed through the whole thread, a few of these might be duplicates, so sorry in advance for that:
- camera button does not work
- wifi does not work consistently - does not stay connected, or shows connected but browser / apps state 'no internet connection'
- GPS is not accurate
- Several software bugs
-(clicking on Facebook app launched the camera!?!?)
- phone does not light up when receiving a txt msg (yes, the notification settings are correct)
- Phone will use notification ringtone for some contacts, but not others
- Screen will flash before answering an incoming call (on and off...makes it hard to answer call)
- voicemail is consistently crashing, needing to forcestop....happens almost hourly
- apps consistently running in the background (and after reboot) that were never started (always having to use advanced task killer - instant messenging, sprint navigation, alarm clock, camera, music, nfl mobile live, moxier, ) these all seem to NEVER go away
- overall just seems a bit slow / laggy (swithcing between screens, apps, etc). I would blame this on 1.5 and not the phones hardware...
I'm sure there are others that I can't think of right now.
I'm crossing my fingers that 2.1 will take care of a lot of these...but who knows when that will be here...

- Hold the camera button down to access camera
- Check your wifi signal
- Update to CL14 for network-assisted GPS if you haven't already
- Which software bugs?
- The Facebook that comes packaged with the Moment is just a browser link. Search Facebook for Android for the official Facebook app.
- CL14 helped a bit with screen flickering. SDX kernels help even more.
- Get a new visual voicemail app from the market.
- Root your Moment and delete the pre-packaged apps that suck battery.
- See above.
I installed joeykrim's SDX 1.9.1 kernel and my Moment went from a little frustrating to an awesome phone. It's super easy to do that now with the Sprint Update Utility - it's almost idiot proof! In fact, most of your problems can easily be solved by switching to the SDX kernels.
And yet, this phone still exhibits a critical problem. It can lose all cellular

KenB
I just had this happen to me when I attempted an outbound call. I think I could still use data though (I had just listened to a VM through Google Voice). I had to pull the battery to end the "call" that was not actually connecting and like your example, the end button did nothing to end the call.
- Hold the camera button down to access camera - uhh....of course? tried this..
- Check your wifi signal - wifi sig is excellent in multiple locations
- Update to CL14 for network-assisted GPS if you haven't already - already had done the update
- Which software bugs? - the ones I listed on the following lines
- The Facebook that comes packaged with the Moment is just a browser link. Search Facebook for Android for the official Facebook app. - yes, yes, i realize this..not talking about pre-packaged facebook mobile
- CL14 helped a bit with screen flickering. SDX kernels help even more. - thanks, i'll look into this!
- Get a new visual voicemail app from the market. - shouldn't have to! The one that comes with the phone you pay for should work!
- Root your Moment and delete the pre-packaged apps that suck battery.
- See above.

Sounds like you got a borked phone. I'd take it in for a replacement if you've got equipment protection. I got mine replaced for a couple of the same problems you're having.
On two occasions I have powered my phone off at night with 40% or 30%battery life left. When I power the phone back on in the morning, the battery is totally dead. Nothing happens at all until I recharge the battery. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Camera button issue seems to be with individual phones, not all of them.
wifi issue is ongoing, but usually has to do with logins.
CL14 fixed gps
software issues are related to drivers or lack of specific phone support
Facebook/camera thing could have to do with app returning to a previous use state
Phone has no notification light. Best that could happen is to light up the soft keys.
Contact issue is probably due to lag in loading tones
Screen flash issue will be added to OP, I hear about that a lot.
Voicemail issue doesn't seem widespread
apps running in background is a common issue, and no one can decide whether its a true issue or not except when an app keeps phone from sleeping.
overall lag is a combination of poor memory utilization, bad drivers, and the 'hacked' version of Android the phone has to run.
Android 1.5 has trouble connecting or even seeing hidden SSID WiFi connections [WPA2 Enterprise]. It's a big problem for campus going people who want to use certain WiFi connections on their Android 1.5 equipped device but can't even see the damned network...
Not sure if this belongs here or not (there is another thread about it). It's happening to several people, but there is a direct correlation between running "SportsTap" and having the voicemail process crash.

I don't know if 3rd party program interference really qualifies for this list... its really an issue that the sportstap devs need to address, isn't it?
If I try making a call when an app is downloading it completely locks up my phone. I can't end the call. It just hangs until it closes itself out after a few minutes. Anyone else have this happen?
Also, I always hit the speaker button when I'm talking to someone. Not really an issue just annoying.
Otherwise very happy with the moment.
I dont hit the speaker button,i hit the mute button and have to call the person back b/c it wont come off of mute..Its very frustrating..Im hoping that with the update that is supposed to be coming all the little quirks will be fixed..the phone overall though is the most awesome phone ive ever had and i love it!!

True, not really a known issue for the phone itself, but rather a known issue for an app for the phone.
I have the radio lock ups everybody is talking about. Removing battery is the temporary solution I use. Also google voice hangs everytime I turn on the phone, I have to force close it.
It may have been mentioned before, but I've seemed to notice I lose an internet connection for a bit, whenever I try to download a lot of things.
It's happened twice, but that's enough for me to feel like it's a trend, and I'll see if it continues to happen.

Same thing happened again yesterday.
Same thing happens to me. Looks like the phone is transmitting but no receive. I normally have to turn the phone off and back on to get data working again. My phone came with the CL14 update so I hope 2.1 fixes this. I came from a TP2 (gave to wife) and I really like this phone. I just hope the fix some of these bugs or I might have to go back to a TP2. Battery life was better and the data connection was always rock solid.
Since doing the update, I've been experiencing some weird glitches:
1. Phone randomly loses data connection completely. My husband has a Pre and we'll both be at the same place, but he'll have connection and I don't. Sometimes I have to reboot the phone to get service to come back on.
2. Screen randomly turns on and off sometimes. I have to pull the battery out to get it to stop. Not sure what triggers it.
3. Dialer will not dial out sometimes.
4. Cannot answer a call sometimes.
I called Sprint and they told me to bring it in. I haven't had a chance yet, but I'm hoping these things aren't commonly associated with the recent update.

I haven't had the first two issue or the last issue, but I have had #3. My phone has had CL14 since I got it, so I can't say whether it is update related or not.

Funny you should mention #2. The other day my screen started turning on and off. It'll do it randomly for about 30 seconds then stop. I really hope the 2.1 update takes care of these issues. I guess if it doesn't then I'll step up to the EVO when it becomes available. Who am I kidding - that's gonna happen anyway :-)
LOL...that reminds me of this one time while I was driving and I made a call. It went to my friend's voicemail, so I left a message. When I was done, my phone wouldn't end the call even though I pushed the "end" button repeatedly. The whole time, my friend's voicemail is still recording! I finally had to pull the battery out to get it to stop. I'm surprised my friend hasn't asked me about that yet, hehe.

Has anyone else been experiencing really bad voicemail message quality. It doesn't cut out or anything, it is just really quiet and it sounds like everyone is small and far away...

I can attest to the data signal loss issues. They happen usually while driving. Here is a short list of other issues I have found:
1) Pull enough data over the cell network and Pandora will die (about 4-6 songs) and require the phone to be rebooted.
2) Remembered hidden wireless networks will occasionally have to be re-added to the list in order to be found.
3) The GPS receiver will just stop functioning sometimes necessitating a restart of the phone.
The good news is that the phone can be restarted without pulling the battery or performing a complicated action (like sliding the ringer switch three times while holding the power button down). And the phone actually starts up much faster than my previous phone (Palm Pre).
At this point, I'd rather have a bunch of unknown Android 2.1 bugs, than a bunch of known Android 1.5 bugs.

yes i am haning the same problem, seems to be people on cells?
That's just the nature of the visual voicemail system. It compresses the data and that ruins the quality. The VM will sound fine if you call into voicemail.
1. Phone randomly loses data connection completely. My husband has a Pre and we'll both be at the same place, but he'll have connection and I don't. Sometimes I have to reboot the phone to get service to come back on.
3. Dialer will not dial out sometimes.
I've had these happen to me several times. Sometimes my data connection will simply stop working. But the icon still shows that I have several bars and it doesn't drop to 1X or anything, it still says EV. Normally happens in the browser, but it seems like it can happen anytime I'm pulling a lot of data.
Anyway, when the data connection dies, I have two options: restart the phone or wait. Sometimes it'll start working again after several minutes. Also, when the data connection dies, attempting to make a call results in the phone locking up. Not entirely - I can still navigate the menus - but the notification area will show that I am on a call even though it never connects. Pressing end doesn't help. Using the menu button and tapping "End Call" doesn't work. Nothing works. If that happens, my only option is to pull the battery, because even holding down the End button doesn't allow it to power off.
If the 2.1 update doesn't fix this, maybe I should try to swing a new Evo 4G when they come out. Get my phone replaced a few times, every time have the same issues, eventually demand a replacement...
