Comprehensive List of Known Issues
(Thread reboot due to 2.1 update)
Mods, please delete any comments in this thread up to 5/14 if possible. Any old issues from 1.5 no longer seem applicable to the phone now that 2.1 is official...
- Camera preview does not display full scene that is captured in the image, especially noticeable in Google Goggles
- Phone will sometimes dial random contacts instead of the desired one when making a call to a contact with multiple stored numbers
- Pandora freezes phone (requiring battery pull) if headphones or power plug pulled out during playback
- Screen sometimes comes on with no input from user, draining battery
- Phone still has Airplane mode issue (may be hardware?)
- Proximity sensor is either broken by 2.1 or has a bug: screen stays on during calls and will sometimes turn off during use, requiring a finger over sensor to see screen.
(more to come, sadly)

I don't know if it's just me but the face and the slider mechanism do not very solid. I pick it up and I can feel it trying to slide open. It's f***ing annoying.

Mine is very solid and most other users say theirs are solid/more solid than other sliders. A few posters have had your opinion, but I think that's just a production defect. You should go back to the Sprint store and try another one to see if you need to swap yours out.
My slider feels good. Doesn't want to open on its own or anything. I will find out about Bluetooth tonight. USB connectivity works fine. Battery meter is off. It ships with settings that google feels are a default user. You can remove these from the main screen. I do want to be able to get rid of Bejeweled demo. OS is being updated when released.
Bluetooth is wonky for sure. Ive had to remove the phone from my car's BT device a couple of times and repair it. It works okay for a few days and then loses the phone BT function but keeps the audio BT function and eventually loses that until I re-pair it.
If I try making a call when an app is downloading it completely locks up my phone. I can't end the call. It just hangs until it closes itself out after a few minutes. Anyone else have this happen?
Also, I always hit the speaker button when I'm talking to someone. Not really an issue just annoying.
That's weird, mine turns off and disables the screen when I have it up against my ear.
My screen turns off too.
I mean the physical button on the side of the phone.
Just the way I hold it my thumb taps it and then I'm broadcasting my conversation to everyone in earshot with the moments great rear speaker.
It's like when your in a club and the musics loud and you're screaming to be heard and all the sudden the music stops before you do and you end up yelling something ridiculous and totally out of context.
Was really embarrassing at work the other day, that's all I'll say.

Led
I have been told that there is a green notification LED at the top next to the SPRINT logo (hidden next to the light sensor(s)). If there is, then mine does not work. If there is not one, then there should be (though it's too late)
There is no way to access the boot list of apps. I want to block some of these apps from ever starting! (Voice command, moxier mail, etc)
Before I complain... is there an option to calibrate the accelerometer? Mine is off very slightly.
The camera is pretty bad IMO.
The emergency button on the lock screen is in the way. It should be at least 1 menu deep, or at least have a cancellable popup confirmation in case it is accidentally pressed.
My bluetooth is very grainy/static-y when linked to this phone.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this phone. Just trying to get everything out there though.
I've called 911 twice because of the emergency phone button. I think it's a really good feature to have, but the placement is poor.
I have a USB cable that I bought to go with my camera and it fit my Hero just fine. Not only is the included Moment USB cable a couple feet too short, it seems to be a specialized tip, much narrower north to south, so a generic USB cord won't work and I'm going to have to buy a couple more. Also, and this isn't an issue so much as bad planning, but the plug of the wall charger is fixed rather than being able to fold flush, so if you have to carry it with it, it's much more awkward.

The Moment uses Micro USB. I think the Hero uses Mini USB. But I agree, the cord is too damn short.
Ok so just to post back regular bluettoth seems to work fine and sounds great. Jawbone 2. haven't tried stereo bluetooth yet but will when I pick up a set. Old phone didn't offer so I didn't bother at the time. also something I noticed. Yahoo worked fine in the email app yesterday all day but last night started giving the error that my username and password were wrong. this morning it started working on its own again. go figure.

Same ymail issues for the past 4 days... but it never starts working again unless I delete account and set it up using different ports.
In referenc to the yahoo mail, I haven't done anything to it and it is fine all day today. I guess I have to wait over the next few days before knowing for sure.
Yesterday it came on by itself 3 times. It got so annoying that I ended up having to use my son's Instinct just to make a call. I have had it hang up on 3 people now while i'm talking because it sometimes doesn't lock up the screen. It will also freeze up when trying to call out and I have to pull out the battery and restart it. Taking it back tonight debating if I should exchange it for a new Moment or get a Hero. I really love the features of the Moment over the Hero but I can't live with the bugs.
Overall I'm loving the phone but also having bluetooth issues. The phone shows that it's on and has already connected but then sometimes just doesn't work. On my last phone people on the other end said they could never even tell if I was on a bluetooth or not but now not so much
Has anyone else been experiencing really bad voicemail message quality. It doesn't cut out or anything, it is just really quiet and it sounds like everyone is small and far away...

Ditto... mine stopped working this morning and started working again just a few minutes ago.

I don't quite understand. None of the external hard buttons of my Moment activate the speakerphone. Exactly which button activates it on yours? I must be doing something wrong.
Another few things for the list: The Moment doesn't always go to sleep when the screen is off.
Also, the Home-Menu-Back light sometimes comes on while the phone is suppose to be sleeping. The lights then stay on until the screen is turned back on.
--Touchscreen barely works right when the phone is plugged into my computer via USB.
For example, I'll hit the backspace key and it'll type a W or R or something totally random and not anywhere near the backspace key.
--My phone buttons will flash when charging/plugged in. I'm not sure if this is an app or not, but it'll occur when charging. Also, it won't sleep properly, either.
I always hit the speaker button when I'm talking to someone. Not really an issue just annoying.

Mine does both. I bump the speaker or mute buttons depending on which ear I have the phone to. Other times I have noticed when I call an automated phone line, for example Sprint's automated bill pay line, the phone disables the screen after just a few seconds and I have to double tap the screen every time I need to input a phone number, credit card number, option number, etc... Both are equally annoying.

When setting up my voicemail, I ran into the automated system issue... but I just turned on speakerphone and brought up the dialer, and that solved that. Only other solution is to pull it away from your ear and just be patient enough to wait for the screen to come back on.

Yeah if you use the lock screen (not the keyguard, the actual lock) then there's an emergency call button like, right there. Directly above the 'menu' button, which you would hit to unlock the keyguard.

I guess I've never locked the screen--it just does it automatically after timing out?

If you have it enabled, yes. Any time the screen goes off, the lock will show when you turn it back on.
My personal problem is that, when I wake up the phone to browse the internet, I will have my thumb on the scree when I slide out the keyboard (this is the other way to wake up the phone besides hitting the red button. It is more efficient to do when you know you are going to be typing something).
Anyways, I have my thumb on the screen for traction when I slide out the keyboard, then the screen comes on, and the emergency button is triggered. So then, instead of browsing, I am restarting the phone to make the emergency dialer go away.

OK, now I'm getting PO'd.
I had it in my pocket, walking up some steps, and suddenly I heard 'BEEP BEEP BEEP!'
I had dialed emergency IN MY POCKET! WTF!? How does the even happen? I have accidentally dialed emergency 5 or 6 times now!

Oh, and another issue that needs to be resolved. The call waiting option... Pressing the green button does not switch between calls. You actually have to bring up a menu to do it! This is a horrible problem when driving.
Also, it seems that the App market will not work while the WiFi is enabled. Needs to be fixed!

I thought so too, however... you can browse and whatever, but if you go to download something, it will just hang there until you disconnect from wifi... I tried that (and confirmed) this when I went to update 2 items and download 2 more and they all just sat there in the "Starting Download" screen... for a couple of minutes... proceeded to turn off wifi, and as soon as that happened, they started downloading...
Not sure when it was that I moved from Dayton OH to somewhere between Johannesburg and Pretoria, but that is where my Moment and Google Maps thinks I am!!!
The GPS sucks.
Also I see that your Samsung Moment front page indicates that it comes with Android 1.6, but it actually comes with Android 1.5 (at least mine did when I bought it at a Sprint store last Wednesday (Nov 11th))
I'm amazed that when I bought my old Samsung Instinct it came with a spare battery and a charger, but the Moment does not. Battery life on this thing is a joke. A couple hours data usage and it is dead.
In the email app (not gmail) you cannot delete your old mail from the trash, nor is there any way for you to empty the trash.
Samsung is aware of this (according to the Sprint CS reps who called them while I was on the line).
Sprint is hoping the rom update will fix a lot of problems, and no, the CS people I talked to do not know when it's going to pop.
Screen timeout - It seems to be "stuck" at like 4 seconds. I changed it from 30 seconds to 1 minute, no difference. I was able to set it so it doesn't turn off when charging though. Searching for some other related options now, since I've only had the phone for 2 days
1) when in your e-mail (g-mail or other) - you're only able to attach files associated with pictures (and documents to go for those who have that app). to attach a video file, you have to go to the file and 'share' via gmail/email to have it attached.
2) whenever you're roaming, it beeps to notify you and there's not really any way to turn this notification off...

re: unwanted alerts:
Select a 'silent' notification for system alerts. Then go to each application that you do want an alert for and set that individually in its' settings.
This also works for the alert that happens when you plug in the phone.

Im thinking the "supposed" LED at the top of the phone is not so much a LED but more of a proximity sensor, hence the reason why the phone goes black when anything comes close to it(give it a try)...but thats just what i think

I got out a 10X jeweler's loupe and checked them out. It looks like the two on the right are connected together with another smaller "bubble" between (connecting) them. The one on the left is separated from them by about it's own diameter.
I'd say the connected ones comprise one sensor and the left one another.
Both the light sensor and the proximity sensor work I my phone, so if those connected ones were an anomaly they probably wouldn't.

"probably wouldn't"... what? Be another sensor (the legendary LED)? Or wouldn't... be?
Sprint has just added its first full QWERTY Keyboard Android Phone to their lineup with the Samsung Moment. Initially rumored as the "InstinctQ", the Moment rocks an 800 MHz processor - what was the fastest processor in an Android phone a... Read More
