I use mint. I know it just came out with an app for android, but the web version (mint.com) has been around for a while and both are free. The web version has more functions of course.

It's awesome. Free, but I paid for full version because of excellent support.

You should try out ProOnGo Expense. You just take a picture of your receipt, and the app extracts the total amount, date and merchant and creates an expense report.

Then you export the report via Excel or sync with QuickBooks Online. You can have all your expenses backed up via our server and access them through our web portal and you can also adjudicate expenses (for businesses and employees).

I know this is an old post but I am new to Android and finding a good expenses software package is proving difficult. Most of the ones I can find only support 1 currency. With travelling internationally in my region, I need something that can handle more than 1 currency. Up until now I have always had a WM phone (sshhh. don't tell anyone) and use Expense Plus from Walletware but it seems they are out of business now. Well, any support emails fail to get a response and the website has been the same for years.

Anyway, my point is that I am a software development engineer as well as electronics design and I am currently learning to programme for the Android platform. I have a lot of experience of Embedded C++, Windows Mobile and PC development so I am not new to programming just to Android...

I am going to develop over the next few months an Android Expenses application that features the ability to handle international business travel. It can also be used by home users too. I will be including the ability to sync the currency for each day so that you have a record of the trip. I find just now this limitation with my current software as I forget what the rate was at the time and it could be a couple of months between submitting expenses. Even if you do this monthly, having the exchange rate in the expense makes it easier to calculate the total to be reimbursed etc. I was thinking of adding some form of percentage to this so that it covers for any commission you might be charged by the money changer or your credit card, debit from bank etc. This would be optional.

The software would export via various formats so that you can use the information in your own expenses. Final output is not fully decided yet.

I am keen to hear any comments from potential users of expense software of any ideas you would like to see in the software. I am looking to develop this in the coming months full time and I plan to release it as a limited free application so that users can try it out before purchasing. As for the commercial version I am going to keep this at a low price so that you will all want to buy it so I would appreciate what sort of price you would be willing to pay for it?

Cheers for listening.

I have been stuck with an iPhone for this very reason. I have not been able to find anything that competes with the iPhone Expense tracking I have been using. If you want a good application to use as a reference, please use iXpenseit for the iPhone. They don't seem to be interested in moving to the Android Platform. I want to be able to import the 2 years+ of data I have into a new application using the CSV format iXpenseit uses.
If you do create an application that is as good or better than iXpenseit, please let me know.

Hi TaxDoctor. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Thanks also for the info on iXpensit too as this will give me some good ideas for my Android app. It's probably a lot more than I was considering but I like the idea. One of the other things I like to track is cash advances from a credit card. This was always a nightmare before.

I'll keep this forum place linked and get back to you later on when I am a lot further on with the coding. I would appreciate a small sample file from you then for the app so that I can offer you the ability to import your data.

I wasn't going to bother with the option to photograph receipts but if this is something you use and I can see the benefits if you lose one by mistake, then I will include this in the programme.

I am enjoying the challenge of learning Android programming but moving from C to Java is a little daunting right now but I am making good progress and the core look of the software is coming along. I'll post some images later and a link to the website as it gets closer to release. I'll be looking for a few beta testers at a later time too so I will give you a call then.

Cheers for the feedback.

v8Dave:

I used ExpensePlus for years, even kept a Sony Clie alive because of the currency conversion on the fly. I liked the program and used it lots. But nada out of Walletware for any new phone, as you pointed out. So before selecting a phone now I want to find another application with similar capabilities that Expense Plus had. Saving receipt photos seems useful.

But I have found nothing yet and my search led to this thread. I am certainly interested in what you are or may be working on here. There should be a market for a $10 +/- travel expense app that works well and syncs well.

And if you find something else out there please pass it on to us who are waiting.

Thank you,

Bernie

Hi Bernie, I suspect Walletware are no longer in business but the software remeains to be sold.

I am going to incorporate much of what ExpensePlus had and expand upon this for better international travel. I will also add the receipt photo option but this printed out may not always be acceptable by some companies but at least it is a record.

I was chatting with a client the other day about my appication development and he likes the idea of the daily update to exchange rate because it can sometimes be 2 or months before he can get them completed and trying to remember the rate on the day was difficult.

Progress on the code is coming along nicely but having to learn Android development at the same time so taking a little longer but I hope to have it out in the market as soon as I can get it done. I promise to be responsive with bug fixes (hopefully not many) and give you all what you are looking for. I'll be keeping the price of the software at a level that will make it attractive. ExpensePlus was a little on the heavy side.

Cheers for now

Default Expense IT on Android does what is asked for in this thread

Hi,

There is an application on the Android platform that does all the stuff that is spoken of in this thread. The application is called Expense IT.

I too travel internationally for business and needed an Android application that would track all my expenses, mileage (when driving in the States), and time. Because of my international travel, I needed to have exchange rates and currencies to be at the expense level; so, I built the application in that fashion.

If you have come across this post, I think it will be worth your time to check out the Expense IT application. Here's the link if you want to check it out:

Smile V8Dave -- where's your program!?!

I've been keeping my PamT3 alive in part because of the Expense Plus program. I would love to move everything on to my Droid X. I've checked all kinds of expense software and none compare to Expense Plus by Walletware.

How is your program coming along... I can't wait to see it.

As the developer for Expense IT, I've continued to add features, and continue to plan to add features as users request them. Expense IT has been in the market since the beginning of 2011, and continues to get pretty high reviews from the user community.

Not sure if you have checked out Expense IT, but I would be interested in feedback if there are features that you would like to see within the application that are not implemented.

After taking a look at fyi mobile ware website, every application they make is only for iphone os and no other operating system at all.Right now they do not seem to have any interest in making there applications available to any other operating system anytime soon.iXpenseit is only made for Iphone and no other.

Default Expense Plus & Expense IT

jehammon: You're getting close to what us rabid Expense Plus fans are looking for, but not quite there yet. I've just started using Expense IT and am finding it to be the closest replacement for Exp Plus so far, but still some missing features. My suggestion is that you try the Exp Plus app for yourself on a Palm device to see where you can improve your product.

Conceptually, what makes Exp Plus so attractive to me is that it begins with the assumption that you want to create a self contained expense report (something like your Jobs element). Therefore it includes features not in Exp IT such as the ability to enter a cash advance amount for that report (or Job) and customizable categories of expenses which you can match with your corporate chart of accounts (i.e., Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner would all be subcategories linked together under the general expense category Meals...). It also allows you to update foreign currency rates into your app directly from the web. There are other features that are missing in Exp IT that I can't recall right now. As I say, the best way to get it right is to test the Exp Plus app yourself on a Palm device.

A specific feature I need in Exp IT right away is the ability to add additional currencies to your list of available Exchange Rates. Perhaps this is a limitation of the free trial version, but the app doesn't say so. Specifically, I need currencies added now for more Southeast Asian countries: Thai Baht (THB), Cambodian Riel (KHR), and Malaysian Ringgit (MAR). But in the long run, you should give users the ability to add new currencies to the available Exchange Rates.

Thanks for listening and improving your product. The sooner it becomes a viable replacement for Exp Plus, the happier I'll be!

Thanks for the feedback!

I have already added custom currencies to my next release of Expense IT. I expect to release this version next week. I also have a future todo item for the auto download of Exchange rates. That will be in a future release.

Regarding the subcategories, how are they reported? Any reports or screen shots would be appreciaated.

I appreciate hearing about features that you would like to see. Please continue to either post them or send them to contact@blujit.com.

Default iXpenselt like features

Hi,

NOOB on androids here. Have just purchased a Samsung Note and was using the 3GS iXpenselt like some users here. Have just downloaded the Expense IT trial version.

1st impression, lack the friendiness and easy to use features of iXpenselt. iXpenselt is easy and simple to use with reports that are easily, entries easily enter and remember for easy reference. The display highly visible with daily inputs or entries available. When I use it for the 1st time, I took just mins to enter almost everything necessary things that I can do. But with Expense IT, the flow is totally different. I have been using it for an hour and still having problem understanding the flow. Maybe the iXpenselt is meant for normal user, while the Expense IT meant for Corp users???

Can anyone recommend any apps closer to iXpenselt??? Thanks
Raymond

Default Expense IT for Business

Raymond,

You are correct that Expense IT is tailored to business. Expense IT is created to allow quick and easy tracking of job related expenses, mileage, and time. It is also tailored to allow for simple customer billing. It has a ton of features; some of which have been added due to the requests noted in other posts above(i.e. automatic exchange rate downloads, custom currencies, etc.). To learn more about the extensive features in Expense IT, may I suggest taking a look at the Users Guide at expense-it.com.

As always, I really appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions that users provide. I am continually improving Expense IT based on that feedback; so, if you have any suggestion, I would love to hear about them. Feel free to post them here or via email at contact@blujit.com.

But with Expense IT, the flow is totally different. I have been using it for an hour and still having problem understanding the flow. Maybe the iXpenselt is meant for normal user, while the Expense IT meant for Corp users???

Can anyone recommend any apps closer to iXpenselt??? Thanks
Raymond
I completely agree with Raymond. The ease of use, efficiency of iXpenseIt has not really been matched on the Android yet. I definitely need to get off of this Apple train, my expense tracking is the only app that is tying me to my old phone still.

Smile Former Expense Plus lover --Just got a Verizon Samsung Note II & found a pretty good Expense tracker

I posted a while back on this thread that I was keeping my Palm Tungsten T3 alive in Part because of the Expense Plus Program.

I now upgraded my smartphone from a Droid X to a Samsung Note II.

I tried a lot of different expense trackers and I found one that I like quite a bit. In many way it is better than Expense Plus -- has more potential for various uses -- but it is still a new program with some quirks I do not like.

But the software developer has a website on which you can put in requests. He seems to be pretty responsive to people's request and up dates his program fairly regularly with these changes.

He hasn't been responsive to any of my requests -- but maybe sometime down the road.

In the meantime, I am growing to love the program -- it can do a lot more than Expense Plus -- though the quirks that annoy me still annoy me.

And you have to play around with it to figure out how to outwit its constraints to get it to do what you want. There is a limit to that but so far, I have felt no desire to go back to my Palm though I keep it charged just in case.

SO the program is called Spensa Pro Expense Tracker by ejc developer. You can get it through the Google Play Store. And check the website to see the posts and the responses the developer gives in terms of requests.

I can't recall if there is a free version with limited ability -- but this one was not very expensive. I can't remember how much but it was under $5 I think.

Hi all,

I am a newbie in the android world, just got a Samsung Galaxy S5 and moving from the iphone 5. One of the apps that I used constantly was iXpenseIt, which for me was brilliant. I know it has several options tailored for business purposes - in the end I just use it to keep track of all my expenses and because I reconcile it to my bank account, I know how much money I have till the end of the month - it is too easy to lose track of your direct debits and expenses...

I also loved how well you could personalise different types of expenses and create smaller budgets inside the main one, very useful.

In the end I know that there will be good apps out there that will do exactly the same, at least from reading this thread. For the users or ex-users of iXpenseIt, what do you recommend?
