My new issue.... I cant get the phone to notify me of new gmails It was but has now stopped any ideas?

No probs!

Have you turned autosync or background data off? Despite the fact the gmail app uses Push notifications, it needs autosync on to work properly.

It should be in Settings -> Accounts & Sync.

Although if you've not changed anything, it shouldn't have changed it itself. Have a look anyway, if it's still active, we'll have a mess about with other things.

I found it took me a while to get to grips with my first Android handset, then all of a sudden, everything just clicks into place.

It does seem daunting at first, but you'll get the hang of things. Shout if you get stuck, I'll be happy to help (or at least try to).

Hopefully if the device gains a little popularity, this forum will get a little busier too.

Ok my autosync just unsynced itself after its been working all day I put it back on lets see how long it stays

Have you installed any 3rd Party battery saver apps/task killers etc?

Are there any Samsung apps built in that perform similar functions?

I'll get you some links, explaining why they're not needed, but uninstall the task killer. I imagine (hope) your problem will go away.

Well after my app killer uninstall my Gmail was working fine

up untill this afternoon when I went in and looked to see autosync off

So I did a little digging around inside my phones brain and discovered that when the phone went into power saver mode the autosync was checked to shut down

So I unchecked it and will see what happens

Hi. I am am a novice smartphone user. I've been reading your post here and I could use some help as well. I also have the Samsung Rugby Smart (SGH-I847) and am completely buffaloed!
I read something about "rooting the device" and deleting the "bloatware" so games can run faster. I get the idea of removing junk I'll never use, like "Family App". Re the memory, no Lithium batteries don't work that way, as long as you charged it completely the first time, then let it discharge fully once, it should be fine.

Don't exit stuff in Task Manager, let Android handle task management. Also, turn off the battery saver thing, or set it to a lower level (mine is at 15%, but I generally charge my phone when it reaches 40%).

Are you def subscribed to the thread? The way this forum works is you'll get one email and if you don't sign in, you don't get any more. Were you offline between posts?

Im subscribed to the thread I rechecked subscriptions and this thread is always open in a window I just reload it

At all? I tend I need to give gmail a kick sometimes (just a refresh of the page is enough) for new mails to appear.

My rugby won't landscape anymore when texting. It landscapes for YouTube videos though. And my camera is stuck on landscape mode. When in my gallery it displays the.picture how it was taken but when taking a picture the menu and the options like flash and the shutter button are displayed as if the phone is landscaped but its actually upright. Any suggestions? ????

try shutting it down compleely, remove the battery for a few seconds and restart.

idk i just got mine a month ago and the only problem i have ever had is with my recovery and the landscaping problem there is a setting for that and i would turn the power saave mode off it doesnt work hardly at all it will cause alot of problems with email facebook well i gues to say notifications for this phone you do not need a task killer it has one built in and batterysavers are unneccasary they will cause notification problems too!!
