Another developer has torn it down and didn't find anything special worth noting.

As far as the OTA itself, if you've made any mods to the system, the OTA may screw you over.

well that sucks. actually i never ever do any mods to the system. i don't root or do anything custom to my phones.never have. the only thing i do is download a launcher from the market. i use go launcher. but thats what i was wondering. its my work phone so it dont really matter too much. now on my gs3 red with att i know that jelly bean is coming out soon. And i don't plan on downloading that at all from ota. i like my ics. its good enough for me. so i hope it dont make me update it.

thanks for your reply.

Two questions on this. If I say yes to the update will it ruin my phone since it is rooted? and if it will how do I get the update screen to stop popping up? Thanks!

i honestly don't know. i don't ever root my phone. there is always a chance of your phone bricking.

Use an app to freeze device management . Mine's been frozen for a week now with no side-effects. As for the OTA, it may crash your phone if you're rooted since root touches /system. Also, if you have clockworkmod, you risk a brick as well.

I used app quarantine and it seems to be working perfect now. No side effects noted as of yet. I read that eventually we will be getting jelly bean for the rugby, any idea when that could be?

This is the first I'm hearing of JB being pushed to the Rugby Smart. I do have ICS in progress though.

To follow up for others visiting the thread:
1: The update should gracefully fail if you accidentally run it.
2: The suggestions to freeze / quarantine the updater app are the best way to get the update to stop popping up and not apply. There is a small chance the update won't apply clean and you'll be stuck using my ODIN images to re-flash back to stock.

How long do you let it sit? 5.x and 6.0.1.1 takes a little bit to kick in. If it still doesn't work, reflash the image and try again.

If you are rebooting into the sock recovery you need to press the menu button once it shows the box and arrow icon. Otherwise it will reboot after awhile. Also, give it a few seconds after the screen dims a little. The menu won't immediately pop up. The volume buttons will navigate and the home button will select.

I don't think he talking about the CWR recoveries, this sounds like a stock recovery thing.

An over the air update (OTA) is what ATT and the other cell carriers push to your device in order to update the device.

These updates can be simple fixes for things like gps, crashes and similar or can be a full android upgrade to a new version.

Ok I do not see any place to start my own thread. I am a Samsung rugby smart phone user! The reviews on this phone was all wrong. One this phone not all that fast. I guessing it cause of all the crap they load on the phone before you get it. Any of these program will start with AT&T ,cause that my carrier. So I downloaded a program called setcpu in the hope to make my phone a little faster. Well the program does not work ,cause the phone is rooted. Another program I download called sdmaid. And it does not work cause the phone is rooted. I have found all kinds of forums on this subject. But not really in the details to understand how to unroot the Samsunf rugby (smart) I can tell you it is running gingerbread. So could someone please point me in the right way,to unroot my phone.

SD Maid should run regardless of root, and SetCPU is a root-only app. I'm not sure what you are or are not doing, but something's not right.

Also, with the right tweaks, this device is actually pretty fast for a single core device.

There were only some mild kernel and other lower-level tweaks made in the 1 OTA that has come through for the device. I did a little digging into it and it appeared very lean from what I was seeing.

If it were larger (>75Mb) I would expect the update to hold something more visible in terms of updates.
