I don't think it's almost confirmed to not be SGS2. It was mainly Droid-Life report yesterday and a lot of times they got fake or false reports. They only heard some vague words from their unknown sources. But there is still no official info from big guys yet. Yeah, the chance doesn't look good for it being SGSII but I am still betting 40/60 on it being SGSII including slider version of SGSII.
Though Stratosphere may end up being not SGSII on Verizon, I think SGSII is definitely coming in whatever form to compete with Bionic, iPhone5. Some analysts believe that delayed iPhone5 is the biggest reason why Sammy is holding up the US SGSII release with beefed up spec so that Apple wouldn't have much time to see US SGSII and tweak iPhone5. I don't like that strategy but I think that may well be the case. Last year they brought SGS1 here only a few months after iPhone4 release.
I'm personally fine to wait more until Winter as my two lines will be upgradable that time. Bionic may be good phone but its form factor is not my style, too large and thick. Pentile pixel screen doesn't help either. Screen is probably 4.3" but physical dimension around it seems pretty big. So for me, it will be one of best phones in Q4. If not SGSII, then it will be Revo 2, Prime or Dinara for me assuming they are all slick phones.
