Wow, just wow... I should see what they say on Monday.
But if this is true and there is no phones like Celox, Prime in Q4, I will go to AT&T or Sprint seriously.

My feelings exactly. I think the tip is legit, though, since it was first reported by the Wall Street Journal with confirmation from a Verizon spokesperson.
My sister works for Verizon. I just sent her a text message saying she works for stupid idiots.
If Prime isn't announced SOON, I'm switching to Sprint before they decide to do tiered data plans too.
Verizon has the best network, but it appears they'll have the worst phones. Idiots.
Very disappointed, but about par for the course for Verizon. Like you said bluefire, only way Verizon rectifies this is if they get Nexus Prime, and is basically a SGSII with vanilla android. Then all is forgiven.
There is more interesting news... BGR claims that even though Verizon is passing on Galaxy S II, it will have a very similar Samsung phone launching soon... whatever that means...

Interesting. Soon better mean freaking soon. The way Verizon and their codependent bed buddy Moto go about doing things, "soon" means sometime before the next year.
Verizon should not underestimate how pissed a lot of people are going to be. They better release, or at least specifically and concretely announce, something really fast.

I hope this is not due to some kind of marketing agreement with Motorola. Why would they pass on SGS II but release a very similar phone "soon". Hope it will at least have LTE.
I wonder what they passed on is original 3G SGSII and decided to go for 4G SGSII (Celox)? I can't believe they would pass SGSII altogether and get nothing like that from Samsung.

I texted my Verizon-employee sister earlier to rant about how stupid her company was and that she is degrading herself by working for them, and she texted back:
vzw has good reason. be patient.did it ever occur to you that SGSII is a downgrade from upcoming Samsung phone on vzw?
This has me thinking that perhaps there is a better Samsung phone on the pipeline. I can't get any more out of her, and I doubt she knows anything. But if the Prime is coming out any time before November 1, I can forgive Verizon. If not, Sprint will win a couple of new customers.
WTH????????? Are they TRYING to make me switch providers????

If you guys haven't learned by now that VZW does things at their own pace, on their own terms, and don't care about "their" customers because the cash cow keeps getting fed (well) regardless...then I don't know what to tell you. You can say sayonara all you want, and even mean it and do it; makes no difference to them 'cause there is always someone there to take your place. Not a fanboi, just a realist.

Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney says “we have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge."
Sounds like Marie Antoinette. "Let them eat cake."
i couldnt really care what wsj says. ill wait till 29th and panic then if i have to. there's plenty of time for that later. iirc, wsj were also the source for rumor that verizon might get the sgs2 first, so idc what they say really.
and i dont care for a verizon spokesperson saying really vague statements that basically reads "hey gais you should buy droid charge for now". You can take that as "you should buy droid charge cause we're never gonna really another samsung phone until the end of time" or "you should buy droid charge for the time being because im not gonna tell you whats being released week from now" There's so many ways to play that word game because theyre spokespeople after all. I dont give a crap about what they say unless its a straight up YES or NO answer.
like i said 4 more days. Maybe not even then we'll have clear answers, cause they're never really honest about what their plans are. Sometimes i think its just better not to know what heck is going on and just plain ol' wait.
i couldnt really care what wsj says. ill wait till 29th and panic then if i have to. . . . .
Well I think all the evidence points to it not being released on Verizon because nothing with SGSII specs has passed through the FCC with verizon specs. The SGSII handsets for the other 3 carriers have been already seen in leaked pics and/or FCC docs detailing their specs. For a couple of weeks we were all engaging in some wishful thinking that maybe the Verizon version had managed to slip through the FCC without tipping anyone off, but now we know that it never existed in the first place.
If I don't see anything with LTE and super-specs passing through the FCC in the next 36 days, I'll know not to expect anything in October for Verizon. No one will panic regardless, I don't think. People will just have to decide whether to bend over and take the Bionic up the you know what, and say "Thank you, Mr. Big Red, can I have some more?" or jump ship and head over to Sprint while they still have unlimited data.
I'm just a little sick of Verizon right now. We all make fun of the Apple fanboys because they're such sheep, but Verizon does the same to us, letting us know what phones we can and can't have. Samsung, I'm sure, was more than willing to release the SGSII on Verizon; it means a boatload of more money for them. But Daddy said no. And if Daddy says something, that's it. Same thing happened with Nexus One. And Nexus S.

Here in US, phone makers are at the mercy of wireless carriers but it's the other way around oversea mostly. Also verizon using CDMA/EvDo 3G and most thorou testing procedure makes new phones even more delayed.

For what its worth I was told a month and a half ago that a high end Samsung handset was coming to Verizon equipped with LTE. I assumed it was the Galaxy SII because I wasn't given the name. I trust the people who gave me the info.

How can they claim to have such thorough testing procedures and still release the Thunderbolt and Revolution?
The Revolution 2 is nothing but a fix and/or apology.

So I'm not writing anything off at this time.
I hope whoever told you that is right. Maybe something like Celox, SGS2 plus, prime that samsung might unveil in Berlin? I need glimpse of any hope as leaving verizon would be my last resort...
I feel like VZ has all the potential in the world. They have a very strong network and solid cust service. We all know their prices are higher but as consumers we accept that as part of the package.
The one part missing is a top-end, show stopper of a phone! I've seen the claim many times and even thought some of their phones were good, none BLEW me away.
Please let the rumors be true about the Prime! I'll continue to hold out until I see a 4G phone with a dual core processor, 1gig of ram, and some type of an internal gpu.
The lack of the SGSII coming to Verizon probably relates to the reports of the Samsung phone roaming their halls with an HD display. While this seemingly is bad news (no SGSII), I have just bumped my "Nexus Prime" October availability barometer up several notches. Blessing in disguise? Maybe...or maybe not if you've been waiting too long already.

In a way I think this bodes well for the Nexus Prime rumors. I also think that the quick release of BGR story that a "similar" Samsung phone was launching soon was a necessary leak by VZW for damage control.
Anything short of a fall NP release and I think I am going to change carriers.

Hey CK good to see you over here. I still believe in your source. Thanks for the info.

Meh, looks really fake.... Hopefully the NP comes to Verizon. My Droid (and my wife's) are starting to really show their age. The Bionic looks alright, but if it's locked down as much as the D3, I'll pass.
The Nexus Prime really does have the opportunity to be the best phone out there. Still disappointed that a regular SGS2 isn't coming to Verizon anyways though, as the more choice the better.
I think it might. But I'm still very skeptical of Verizon getting a pure Android Nexus device. I don't put much stock in the same rumor-mongers that swore up and down that Verizon would be the first to have SGSII on August 12.

I'm a believer! This looks way more solid than anything we saw on the SGS2. If VZW comes out with the Prime within 45 days of the Bionic, all is forgiven.
Don't be sad ....the version Verizon is getting is going to be far superior
They better ramp up that camera resolution - 5 Mpx is in the current specs, everyone else is sporting 8. That's the only thing I don't like about the NP and it is a deal killer for me.

5MP isn't necessarily worse than 8MP. It depends a lot on the sensors. I've seen 8MP take super crappy photos in low lighting conditions.
I agree, upon second inspection. The lawyers supposedly write:
"By this letter, Samsung orders you to immediate cease, desist, and refrain from any and all such activities."
I don't know how anyone can "immediate" do anything. And this is written by a team of lawyers who write this stuff all the time? Methinks it's most likely written by a teenager over his milk and cookies on his mom's computer.
This was literally my face when I read this a few mins ago:
Anyhow, my OG is on it's last wooden leg and the only saving grace right now is the latest Simply Stunning ROM...
That being said, my upgrade is Sept. 5 -- guess what, not renewing contract as of yet. Sprint has nice prices, and I am tired of Moto peddling. I have an OG now, had a D2 (went to my GF), and had a DX2 (which was buggy as hell) -- so I am DONE with Moto.
I will wait out Q4 the best I can. If there isn't a really baller phone by that time I am going to Sprint. I am not even looking at anything until the 29th info comes out.
Maybe there IS a better sammy coming out instead of the SGII - but again more waiting and possible disappointment. I will wait, but not sure how far into Q4 I can actually sit here with my thumb up there...
It looks like Prime is coming for sure. But how do we know Verizon is getting it first if at all? Some folks on other forums are saying it's going to AT&T first.

Exactly! This is what makes me go back and forth between being proud of my self control in bypassing the Bionic, and feeling like an idiot waiting for the prize that will never come.

Check out the Nexus Prime forum...it's said that Verizon is first carrier for Prime according to P3Droid and others.

8MP is about bragging rights, nothing more. 5MP is enough for hard copies up to poster sized, and as already noted the lens/sensor is surely the limiting factor.

It just occurred to me that we should have taken the deletion of the Function forum as a sign. As a phone it never really existed, and whammo the "accident" happened. Was it really an accident, or was it fate?

(Just having some fun.)
I think Function was supposed to be 3G SGSII on verizon and they just decided to pass on it. Maybe they didn't want to look bad next to other carriers SGSII that will be marketed as 4G phones. I think they will get something better soon like Celox or Prime with different name.

I think Celox will be announced in Berlin on September 1, as a SGSII Plus (with LTE). Seeing as it's an 800MHz LTE, though, that means strictly Europe only. They might release it in USA by the Spring, but I doubt it, given that the Prime will basically be the same specs.

Would a 700MHz LTE chip be that much different in size?
Seems an easy task to put a Verizon LTE chip in the same chassis and rock on. In the absence of an imminent Prime release, Celox would be a close second. I would jump at the chance to own either one.
The Samsung Stratosphere is a 4G LTE device for Verizon. It is a mid-range handset featuring a 1GHz processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED display and 5MP camera, and is the first LTE device in Verizon's lineup to feature a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
