Can't leave sync off or new ones won't be added to sync. Manual delete sucks cause I have 319 contacts. Gosms makers made a contact merge app gonna try it ill report back.

I know im late but.....
Google.com > account settings > view data stored with this account > manage contacts

There you can delete the ones you want. Then all you have to do is sync them.

Hey TeachMe
The best way to remove redundant contact files is to manage them from your gmail account. Access your Gmail account from computer system and and go to contacts. There you will see all your contact files (multiple copies). Select all the contacts and then click on more, click on merge contacts with same name. Duplicate entries will be removed.
Further go to settings of your android phone > Applications > manage applications > all > contacts storage and click on clear data (this will delete all contacts info from your mobile memory).
Now go to contacts > accounts > your Gmail account and sync Gmail contacts.
You will have your contacts back in your cell, with no redundant data.
