So far I have heard a lot about LauncherPro. And anotherone called syncmypix. Please suggest some apps you found useful to contacts, pictures, Internet surfing (I.e. Good browser) also app management and such. Thank you.

Thanks. What about LauncherPro? Looks cool but you must agree to give it access to pretty much everything on your phone. Web, Contacts, Pictures, Everything and anything. That seems like a bit too much. Can anyone also recommend a good battery manager, task killer? Also how can you upload pics to facebook? Only options are gmail, picasa, text messege, or regular mail. How is it done??
For the transform I need:
Advanced TasKiller which has a nice widget you can just click to kill all running tasks.
Launcher pro because i hate the sprint id think on the homepage and would prefer more options.
I like Dolphin Browser for internet but that's not super Transform specific.
One of my favorite apps is appbrain which is an alternative interface for android market. Where this app really shines is with its computer syncing. If you download appbrain and fast web installer, you can use the appbrain website to choose apps to download which, once you choose to download, will instantly start to download on your phone, whether it's by the computer or not. It takes a little finagling to set up but it's worth it.

I have SMS Popup and was wondering if there was a way to choose mp3s for the notifications? All it gives me a choice for now is to choose from Android System sounds, or Zedge downloads.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I've been making the tones on my computer just using sound recorder, then putting them in the audio folder on my Transform. Then I use Ringdroid to make it an official notification ring or ring tone or whatever you want it to be.
I just tried twice with the Sense Analog clock and no-go on the Transform. It downloaded and installed, but the "open" button was greyed out. Bummer.
That would be because its a widgets, AKA, You need to help your finger on the homescreen until the list of options appears, then hit widgets, and then tap whatcha wanna put on your screen :P

Yeah, tried that. Even though it said downloaded and installed and the "open" button was greyed out, it does not show in my widgets list at all when I do the steps you mentioned to add it to the home screen. I even tried with a blank screen to ensure I had enough room and it's not on the widgets list. Weird. I tried 2 different Sense Analog clocks with the same results. I ended up with "digital clock widget - 2.0.2" which doesn't seem as cool as the Sense Analog one, but it added to my widgets list and homescreen!
Well, I searched on that exact term "Sense Analog Clock Widget 24" and came up with 11 results...all by Factory Widgets. When I selected a few to see the info on them, none of them were named exactly that with the "24" on the end. Some had 4x2 on the end, but not 24! One of the results that came up out of the 11 was the one I had tried to load and it didn't ever make it to my widgets list after download and install (with "open" button greyed". For now, I'll stick with the one I've got (although I really want to use the "small glass" one by Factory Widgets). Thanks for all the suggestions!
Oooh, don't bother. I tried again this morning and after re-booting the phone (post "install"), the widget finally showed in the widgets list so I can add to my home screen. Very weird. Murphy's Law. Which is fitting, as I am a Murphy. Thanks all!

You Could Get "Rings Extended" To Do That.
The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Chacon27 For This Useful Post:
If you want sounds for your notifications, just add a "notifications" folder in your sd root folder (similar to putting ringtones into a "ringtones" folder). If you have a zedge folder, just go and open that, you'll see a "notification-sounds" folder. Grab the mp3s outta there and drop them into your "notifications" folder, and when you pick android system sounds, there they are! You can then remove the zedge folder if you are not going to use them anymore.

1. Home: ADWLauncher EX, WAY better than launcher pro which is what i use to use.
2. SMS/MMS :Handcent SMS, like it because theres a lot of customizable options.
3. Phone Options Widget(Like Power Control but can customize): Extended Controls
4. Clock/Weather: Sense Analog 24 Clock, also customizable.
5. Ringer Control: Simple Sound Profile Widget, is like profiles on blackberry's.
6. Security: Lookout
7. Browser: Dolphin Browser Mini
8. Back Up: Titanium Back up and i also use SDX Stock App removal to back up stock apps because titanium doesn't back em up.
That's my "essentials"
speeder, your post is great. question, any problems with any of these apps, that you've noticed? does sense work properly and keep time all the time like stock does? if I download Dolphin browser will it open my email links into Dolphin without me needing to change some settings? I ask, because the stock browser crashes kinda frequently, and it gets annoying.
good post. oh one more newbie question, does ADWlauncher eliminate SprintID or what do I need to do once I download it, if anything?
THANK YOU for all your posts.

I thought I'd bring some attention to an app called "Wave Launcher" (Swipepad is another similar app) which was the Amazon app store free paid app of the day yesterday (today the free app is "Gentle Alarm"). Wave Launcher resembles a well-known feature on WebOS phone like the Palm Pre. Anyway, I was playing around with it today and was really impressed with how the app brings Android's multitasking capabilities to the forefront. To begin with, you can have up to 12 apps on the wave. Regardless of any application currently running, you can swipe your finger from the virtual gesture-area at the bottom of the screen towards the middle to show the wave - A fully configurable quick-launch action-bar. Anyway, one of the areas where it truly shines is when you're on a phone call. While on the call, you can launch an app (shortcuts, folders, etc, and I believe possibly even the app drawer) like your calendar, contacts, browser or google search, open table, and even your messages (SMS) or Google Talk. You can then send a text while on a call or make a restaurant reservation with open table despite not having 4G on our Transforms!
Note: It seems to slightly affect the space bar (swype keyboard) which other users have reported and minimized the effect of through the settings menu and I disabled it's use in landscape mode in case it affects my use of the physical keyboard.
Update: I've resolved the space bar issue by resizing it smaller (Calibration). I've tried moving it to activate from the left side but that interferes with swype action from the left like ending a call (though I normally use the power button to end the call) and I figure moving it to the right side might interfere with activating the speakerphone. Swyping from the bottom up is probably the best spot though resizing (smaller) is needed especially when using the virtual keyboard. I just have to adjust my scrolling habits to not start from/touch the bottom screen portion to not activate wave launcher inadvertantly.

what's the best "free" Task Manager/Killer. i had Advance Task Killer & pretty much like it, however i noticed whenever it would kill some of the apps that were running in the background, i would notice that not even 5 min later, some of the same apps were running again. tried a couple of others, one of them being WatchDog, but it didn't give you the option to kill apps every 30 min like Advane Task Killer does. i really need to get my phone rooted b/c the laggin issues w/ this phone are so frustrating. thank goodness i will be "fully" eligible for an upgrade come October.
I don't believe nor do I recommend that you use a Task Killer with the Transform or any phone that runs Android 2.2+ Froyo. From Android 2.2 Froyo onwards Google revamped the resource (RAM) handling characteristics of the OS eliminating the need and use of Task Killers like Advanced Task Killer (ATK) which may now do more harm to the phone than good for phones running 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread. Use at your own risk and uninstall would be preferable! Here are threads for reference regarding this issue:
Download the app called DiskUsage (Ivan Volusyuk), look at your app storage memory allocation and ensure that you have around 30% (65 MB) of internal storage free. Also, take note of your system data memory. If it is more than 50 MB, I would consider doing a Samsung Hard Reset and restoring to factory default setting to reclaim that System Data memory (it should be around 12-30 MB). You will lose your data and phone settings so make sure you backup your data and though the SD data will be unaffected, I'd back it up to a pc for best practice. Also, use an app like SMS Backup & Restore (Ritesh Sahu; click Menu->Preferences->Check "Add Readable Date", Set the Readable Date Format, Check "Add XSL Tag", Check 'Add Contact Names" so that you can properly view the text messages as an XML file on a browser on your pc) to backup your SMS messages and every so often delete your SMS threads as they can slow down your phone as well. Also, move apps that can be moved to the SD card and clean up your browser cache.
thank Sparky, but i broke my phone yesterday, went to Sprint store & got an LG Optimus. i know it may not be the best phone, but they didn't have any other phones & i really needed a phone @ the moment. i'm really not sweating it b/c i'm fully eligible for my upgrade in October, which i think i might be considering getting the Motorola Photon. talked w/ my buddy who works @ the Sprint store & he told me it's a nice phone. again many thanks for the imput.

An absolute must is 'power task manager' unless you like dealing with slow speed and multiple crashes a day.. Google voice/talk. As for pic uploader i like picasa but im g'd out everthing google puts out i have it.
I suggest docs if you are in school/college.
