My total memory is 217. Available is 169 MB. My available RAM is 161. And my problem is my RAM usage goes from 130 to 155 in less than an hour, which forces me to soft reboot my phone, sometimes up to 15 times a day. Im using a stock launcher, basically everything is stock except for the browser(dolphin mini, saved to SD), lookout antivirus and the official facebook app. I have no widgets on my home screen (even short cuts), no games. Can someone please help me as to my ram problem. Also, the phone is two months olds. Reset it to factory settings yesterday due to excessive lagging ang hanging. Also, i downloaded crappy apps prior to resetting (was customizing my phone). I also have history eraser right now and it doesnt help at all.

Get rid of the Antivirus. Android doesn't need an antivirus. It's killing RAM. Also, you will continue to have RAM problems until you decide to root. It sucks but it's what you have to do.

I agree with Cooper about getting rid of Lookout Anti-Virus. As long as you take precautions regarding downloading apps (only from the Android Market or Amazon Appstore, reading and understanding the app permissions and decide whether that kind of app really needs that permission, and reading app reviews and checking how many people have downloaded the app, there is not much need for an anti-virus).

Our Transforms don't have as much RAM as newer, more powerful phones so we have to be selective as to which widgets to use or which ones to launch as an app (or browser shortcut if poosible) or whether there is another similar widget that uses minimal RAM. Basically, since you have now reset the phone to factory settings, slowly install widgets to see which ones take up a lot of RAM and which ones don't which you can then leave on your home screen. For example, I have now added and tested the Google+ widget and determined that it can be left and used on my home screen as it has not slowed my phone down though I switched my Springpad Large Widget to a Springpad Small Widget to compensate for the additional widget. Finally, try using Facebook by launching it as an app (or a browser shortcut to the mobile facebook site) and not as a widget or try using Friendcaster (I do) instead of the official FB app and trying it's widget as well.

Also, did you turn off "Animations" on your phone? It makes the phone faster and I have not seen adverse effects to the phone. For example, I still enjoy the rain drops and wiper effects on my Fancy Widget weather screen when it is raining or storming in my area whether I have "Animations" turned on or off. To access the setting, click on Menu->Settings->Display->Animation, Set it to "No animations".

Not a single widget ever in my home screen. My apps just consume 50 MB out of the 217 available, so what I dont get is how cone my ram usage sometimes peak at 97%(soft reboot after). This happens up to 15 times a days.. i actually ang am using the official facebook app, and launch it through a shortcut.

efmp1987, I'm curious how you know that your RAM goes from 130 MB to 155 MB in less than an hour? Are you closely monitoring the 2.2 Froyo provided Samsung Task Manager, (RAM manager tab)? Is your phone lagging or freezing? If not, it may actually be running an email or weather sync that may be causing the temporary spike in RAM. Android 2.2 OS should be handling RAM resources automatically so you may not need to worry about it and soft reboot the phone. Also, is there an app service that should not be running in Applications->Running Services?

Yes you are right, I am monitoring the task manager, RAM tab. But i dont clear my ram via that, though i did try, and it was ineffective becase the usage would climb to 10 in less than 2 mminutes. A few minutes ago it was 90 RAM, now its 130. By the time it reaches 150+ my phone hangs and i have to reboot my phone again. In settings --> applications --> running services its just the keyboard, android system and google services framework. I tried force closing gmail, sprint zone, market, email, but they just spring back to life after. I dont know what to do im so sad :'(

As I've said multiple times, the only thing you can do for a real fix is to root your phone.

efmp1987, As you know, I don't recommend Task Killers though I do make use of the provided Task Manager. Do you have Watchdog Task Manager? I wouldn't use it to kill apps but I would try using it to perhaps figure out which app is actually using up the CPU since obviously something is causing the RAM to increase to a high level.

FIXED! Its the lookout antivirus thats causing all the problems. My phone is as good as new. Noore soft reboot since yesterday! Thanks for the help! Appreciated it, all of you!

I recently got rid of Lookout myself as I do not use Blackdroid anymore, better performance indefinitely. (:
