Welcome to the forums!
Rooting does NOT affect the phone in any way, shape or form. All it does is give the user (YOU) access to the phone's forbidden system files and other protected partitions (boot, recovery, caches, etc.).
What you DO with the phone after you root can affect the phone. You are giving yourself a huge amount of power over the device... read, read, read! Ask questions - MAKE BACKUPS!
The last thing we want to hear - and you want to type - is "Help! My phone went blank and won't do anything!"
Root, my friend... and then you'll have a life!
An Android one, anyway
