Default Update coming....

Just picked up a nee LG Optimus T for one of my kids and I mentioned that it was funny that this phone has 2.2 on it but my Vibrant is still on 2.1. The store manager was there and heard me say that and said that it wont be that way for two long. I asked if he had info and he said yea I have the Vibrant as well and then showed me a screen that showed a OTA date of the 15th!!!! but the OTA does not mention Froyo it just says that a major Vibrant update is expected on the 15th of Nov and that more info will be out next week.....

I read it and didn't see Froyo, it just said major update. He would't let me take a pic, so no there is not pick. But he seemed confident that it was Froyo.

Just throwing this out there to see if one-one else can get a snapshot of that screen.....

Ummm..October was last month.

It probably was referring to the "gps update".

highly doubt it.. samsung announced froyo in the UK (via twitter) to be sent out by the end of novemeber.. with no mention of the united states, other then that they are working hard to have it here by the end of the year (sad face)

And people still want to assert that we will get Gingerbread 2.3.
LOL give it up folks, we will be lucky if we get Froyo.

Then others say "oh who cares if Samsung never delivers it, the devs will make it first anyway."

Ya we saw how that went, the devs can't do much. XDA is kind of lame, they just take what samsung officially releases and and toy around with it and people act like the devs did something soooo amazing. What would have been amazing would have been if developers could have delivered a fully working Froyo, without Samsungs help. But of course nope. There was no froyo, until the UK froyo became available, then the devs take the international galaxy s froyo and try to make it work on Vibrant, then take all the credit as if they did something amazing. And even that isn't working great on the Vibrant. There is no GPS driver either. If the devs were so amazing, they wouldn't need anything from Samsung, they would do it all on their on with just the basic Froyo. So ya, pretty much we are depending on Samsung to deliver Froyo and all the drivers, then someone at xda can tweek it a little and act like they did sometihng amazong. Just the way someone at xda provided all those great GPS fixes that never worked

Then there are critics who produce nothing except whining about what everyone else has failed to create.

That's just BS.

People aren't allowed to complain about companies?

Come on, in this case, complaining about Samsung is absolutely valid. HTC and Motorola have delivered froyo 2-3 months ago for handsets released around the same time period as the Vibrant. Samsung US is still just saying by the end of the year. That could put them 4-5 months behind the other companies. That's not a problem?

I think you missed my point. Where did I suggest anyone shouldn't be allowed to post? Also, he went far beyond just complaining about Samsung. Honestly I think there should be a separate "Rant" subsection on this forum for posts that offer no new information, and only have the purpose of venting anger and frustration. It would make avoiding them much easier.

There was a news atricle a while ago that said the Vibrant was getting the Froyo Update On November the 11th. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

lol

Nothing will ever be comfirmed.

Froyo (if it EVER shows up) will just start coming out randomly and then tmobile will announce it.

Samsung, want to take note?

Ah, so me posting about pointless rant posts should stop, but the pointless rant posts are fine? I'd really just like him to read his sig and follow it.

Why are you here, I thought you cashed in your Vibrant?

This is only a problem for the people that didn't do their research prior to purchasing the device. If people had done their research as they should, they would have known in advance that the gps didn't work, that from samsung's past performance it might never be fixed or take a while, and that froyo would take a long long time because samsung is slow with updates and has even broken promises. I'm actually expecting froyo by mid 2011. Anything before this would be a surprise for me. It looks like I might be surprised after all. I knew what I was getting into.

The wife has the vibrant now, i still use it from time to time. right now i have no phone. in the words of lady gaga.. ''IM A FREE B*TCH BABY!"

anyway, his posting wasnt pointless. He was explaining on samsung, froyo, the UK version of the galaxy X and other stuff in his post. but i guess knowledge, when written with anger and disdain towards a company, comes off as a rant that is pointless.

"Explaining", and "knowledge". That's good. I looked again but didn't find any of that. Must be me...

I appreciate you keeping us posted on your 3rd Droid X though. Does make me feel better.

Going to give the HTC/MyTouch 4G a whirl? Just from looking at the specs, it is pretty thin but heavy. Has different colors but have no idea how the screen looks. I dont go check out every phone that comes out and i know some do. Since you dont have one, you interested?

If Samsung ever expands their screen to other phones like HTC, im gone. Before the Vibrant i was interested in the MyTouch 3G but didnt like the keyboard that came with it. The Keyboard mechenism on that G2 blows. Did check it out and the thing falls open when you just turn it on its side.

I may pick up a mt4g and if i dont like it after 14 days its gone. Im on the edge because i really did like the G2 but i wasnt 'totaly' sure so i returned it under the 14 days. Dont dare say the g2 hinge mechenism blows. How often are you going to type upside down? Or laying on the bed? Rarely. And if/when you do, use the on screen. Its sort of a design flaw. It was purposly made with no springs or such like that so it wouldnt ware out over time. The g2 hinge rocks.

Any way, as for the MT3G im not sure if im okay w/ no physical keyboard. after using the vibrants touch screen on 4 inches i dont know if going to a 3.8 will suck that hard. i mean its only .2 inches but it may make a difference. I like the weight and heft to the MT4G but..god im so attracted to the G2... Plus the hardwarebuttons and bottom of the mtg4 are ugly as sin. Then again the mysense UI (basically just the sense ui) is interesting. 1ghz 2nd gen vs 800 2nd gen is tough too. its just 200 mhz but the difference under 'benchmarking' is noticible. however once a permanent root is found on the g2, and people perma clock it to 1ghz and beyond, it will make it a tough contender.

im rambling on here..

If i do decide to get a MT4G you guys will be sure to know.

Yeah id like to know. Im not fond of a physical keyboard myself and the MT4G dont have one which i like. But since i know you like them, ill take that into consideration but your input is good to have.
I just didnt like the mechenism on the G2 but thats just me. Looks like one decent whack while that thing is half open and if it gets bent, thats all she wrote. Again, i prefer to not have a keyboard at all and its kinda plain looking. I think the 4G looks better but thats from pictures.

Maybe ill go check one out to see how the screen display looks.

it looks good for a 3.8inch stft screen. Never was a big fan of samoled/amoled. the colors while nice, looked oversaturated and fake.

Considering getting the HTC HD7.

I really want an HTC phone and windows phone 7 looks awesome. and, while only 2,000 apps strong, the new windows mobile 7 app store looks VERY promising. its not going to be as free and open as the android store which has benefits. The android store may have, lets say, 60,000 apps but how many of them are absolute GARBAGE. I'd say maybe 10 - 15k of the apps out of the 60,000 are worth their weight in silver. Windows mobile 7 is going to be pushed HARD by microsoft. so you bet gaming companies like konami, ubisoft, gameloft, and so on will take notice and advantage. the line of phone and portable gaming is blurring. and it will be totally blown out of the water once, if its real, the psp phone launches.

supposedly through the grapevine, t-mobile started rolling out 2.2 yesterday as a trial run. There are a couple of threads on xda in the dev section and the general section.

No, there are no threads of the sort there. There's just one thread started by some kiddie sounding person, but looks like there's no backup to the claim whatsoever.

We probably have until sometime in december to wait to yet.

Coming from the Vibrant I'm absolutely loving the MT4G. It's everything you hoped that vibrant would be. I know know championed the Vibrant a lot, but I really didn't know what I was missing. No, the screen isn't near as sharp and the Vibrant, but I've gotten used to that already. Everything else is fantastic. Oh I do miss the android keyboard. The keyboards on this are awful. I'm experimenting with some trials from the market.

I would say its about as reliable as any other speculation out there. However, speculation DOES have to start somewhere, so I guess we won't know until the update actually comes (if it comes).

Android Apps reached 100,000 last week. Or was it this week? One of the two. And many are garbage just like many are garbage in the Apple store and many will be garbage in Windows app store. Fact is though that many will be useful.

Im not one to switch phones every 6 months or every year or have more than one phone at a time, so we'll see what happens with the Vibrant. I may switch sooner than usual if they keep dicking around with the updates on this. Ill check out the Windows phone but initually it dont excite me much. I do like the possibilities that Android has going forward. Just dont like being so far behind with Samsung.

Ouch that was mean. Pantelesspanguin has not once been rude to a single person on the Vibrant forum. I've never read anything rude or negative towards other people coming from her, that was kinda mean.

You don't even need a phone to post on this site, it is open to everyone

I WILL MISS YOU PANTLESSPENGUIN. And I hope you continue to post here, so you can compare and contrast the two phones for us.

Here you go.

Here's the initial one, which was eventually locked due to flaming: Official 2.2 - xda-developers

And here's the other where Eugene (who made the partially working Froyo rom) in contact with the guy to see if it's real or not: ebatr8 2.2 - Page 10 - xda-developers

Actually i would rather see her posts than yours. So I kindly ask you to pick up your ball and go home.

Probably going to pick up a MT4G before i go to work. Seeing as i require a GPS for my job and my wife needs her phone (the vibrant), i will be out of a gps.

I'm not even sure I'd put those threads at rumor level. More likely hoax.

Thanks, SammyV and Ghost. I have no clue what that was all about. Not hatin on the Vibrant, just staying an opinion. We all have them. I'm hanging around here because not many have the MT4G yet so that forum is a bit boring.

It's not his phone. It's his bosses phone, and they work at T-Mobile.

He has pulled the files off the phone, and is going to upload them to Eugene from what I gather. We'll find out in a few hours!

Checked out a MT4G Today. Really like the phone. Thin, no keyboard, worked great. One thing i noticed was the ringer volume wasnt quite as loud as i like though. Ran fast and smooth.
Played Angry Birds on it side by side with my phone and the one big thing that jumped out to me was......my Vibrant has a really blue tint to it compared the the MT4G. Liked the MT4G screen better in that respect but it wasnt quite as sharp but was good enough as far as i was concerned. Still looked good.

I dont notice every nit pik detail and i still never noticed the things under the screen of the Vibrant that SammyV said he noticed under his when it was turned off. Cant even remember what it was but it was something you needed (imo) some kind of super vision to see because i couldnt see it.

Anyways the screen is a bit smaller (3.8" compared to 4") but pictures and video looked pretty good to me.

One thing i didnt take the time to do was check out all the options on the phone such as the music player options, phone book options and so forth. Still dont know if it has LED notifications or not.

The music player is REALLY nice! It's part of a bigger "app" called media room, which combines all multimedia into one place.

I liked the phone book & stock text app better on the vibrant.

And yes, the MT4G has LED notifications. The LED is pretty tiny & kind of weak (I'm used to the in-your-face notifications on the bb), but I guess it does the trick

The Vibrant has a lot of options for the music to make it sound in many different variety's asside from the 5.1ch which i think also sounds very good. So if the music player is really good on the MT4G, then thats a good feature.
I dont really like that it only has 4GB of internal memory though. Love the 16 we get in the Vibrant but to have that we dont get camera flash which to some is a big deal. To me i dont really care if it has it or not. Would be real nice to have the FFC though.

I agree with you there. However, I know I'll never ever fill the alloted space on the MT4G, let alone the Vibrant. I have my SD card for that, & even then I'm only using a bit under 3gig of my 8gig card. However, it was nice just to KNOW I had all that space available to me on the Vibrant, in case I ever needed it .

So tomorrow morning I'm going to tmo and getting a mytouch 4g. If I'm not completely happy with it by Monday I'm gong to exchange it for an HTC HD7 and completely drop android. Well until 3.0 comes out.. atleast that's if Google sticks to their guns about 3.0 ; you know all the stuff they're going to do to stop all of the fragmentation. No custom ui's and such.

Well i did mess a little with the HD7 and i didnt like it. IMO Android is a better system and you can still customize it a lot more. I also just didnt like that the home page on the HD7 will always be those boxes. You can t put something else on it like a background or a picture you took.
But, thats me.

Well im about to head out to get my MT4G. It has 1 day. 24 hours to impress me. If one thing is bad, dead pixel, bad accelerometer, or it just doesnt live to my standards, HTC HD7 here i come.

I havent gotten it yet. I did some research and i can get it at radioshack for $150 but.. i dont like getting phones / plans from non corporate stores. Have never had good luck with ''authorized retialers". Im trying to get t-mobile to give it to my for the same price..or atleast 200 (minus the stupid rebate)

I'm also considering buying it out right. Ik now if you dont have the $450 upfront, you can have it chopped up in to 4 installments on the next 4 bills.
