Supply and demand determines prices. Carriers have abundent supply so they need subidize costs.

Lots of competition with android phones. Its a good phone but consumers have choices.

ummmmmmm cheap?

Not sure what prices you are seeing but its $499 from tmobile if you buy without a plan.

I guess if thats cheap for you, you must be pretty well off.

Most other Android phones are going for roughly the same price. More expensive from verizon though.

And if you buy the vibrant from a store like radio shack or best buy, you are looking at $599.

Without contract purchased from the provider:

Vibrant: $499
G2: $499
MT4G: $449
EVO: $449
Droid X: $569
Droid 2: $559
Incredibe:$529

And the Iphones are cheaper than most of the android phones.

The Vibrant isnt a cheap phone by any means, just cheaper than verizon DROID phones more-or-less.

Remember the carriers make their money on the service not the sale of the phone. They've been practically giving high end phones away with new contracts for a long time.

im not really sure where "cheap" is coming from and am very confused. Maybe $499 is cheap for some but not most. It is in the same price range with contract as it is with other couriers. Keep in mind couriers dont make their money from the sale of the phone but for having you with a phone that requires a data plan for a long time..now that's where the money is for them, guaranteed $30 per month (with tmobile, Sprint and Verizon have HIGHER prices for data packages)
