Just curious if there is a way to root the ZTE Score from MetroPCS.
I'm a little confused as I've been seeing people post about removing the annoying little Metro PCS Easy Wifi App, but I don't know how they are doing this without rooting the phone? When I go to manage the apps, it doesn't give me an uninstall option on that one, as well as a bunch of other crap Metro force feeds these things.
Another question.. Is the Score "M" the Metro PCS model? Is that what the M is for?

Not yet but my phone has been sent off to try and find root for it

The easy wifi app and the other bloatware cannot be removed unless the phone IS rooted

Yes it is the Metro PCS version of the ZTE Score. The M Metro maybe

something came up n well no root. Will update when something gets done that can be released
I do have CWM built to just need to test n debug it. And unlike the cricket Score, I will be submitting this to koush so it will eventually have RM support tho it will prolly work on both as the have the exact same model #.
can someone tell me what happen like we have root and now it is gone?
It appears so. I'm buying a new phone tomorrow. A month with the MetroPCS boatware complete with pop-ups will drive anyone nuts. At least now I know to do my research on what phones can be rooted before I buy. I think I assumed that since they all run Android they could all be rooted relatively easily. Not so much!
Its just a matter of time with this phone...patience is always worthwhile
I know buddy, I'm normally the most patient person in the world but I bought this phone for work and so far I haven't even been able to install a decent app to take care of my MS Office docs because of Metro's bloatware. They put so much crap on it that it only had 12mb free out of the 200mb that these things come with. I can't even move anything to the SD-Card because of the restrictions Metro uses.
Got any ideas on how to free up some space? That would give me a shot at waiting for the root. I >really< don't want to go buy another phone to be honest. If I could free up some space at least I could get the apps I need on here. Errr.. Or maybe is there a way to install an app directly to the SD-Card? Anything that I saw an 'Uninstall' button for in the Application Manager, I uninstalled and that really only gave me a few megs..
uninstalling apps from /system wont save you any space. youll still be left with 200MB. what kills you is all the crap updates, google maps is like 13 MB's and has a new version every other week

Well I managed to free up 60mb so I'm happy for a few minutes. I've got what I need for work installed now...still amazes me that the Metro Clowns put that much crap on there. Don't they realize some people might want to install more than one or two apps?
Out of curiosity, how much memory do the other -- maybe more expensive phones have?
its not a one click root, been trying but seems that is not possible. anyways run the batch file at the prompt run teh command listed and it should finish ya up

Did I miss something? I run this and I see a bunch of "Device not found" errors, but no root. Do you turn USB Storage Mode on, or USB Debugging? Is this all you do, unzip the Rooter, run the bactch file and it's supposed to work?

Yup turn on USB debugging and run the bat. They rooted my ZTE with this so confirmed working. Just remember though-there is no recovery yet-PG is workin on it
Have started to write up a guide-been busy this week-should have it done this weekend.
Let me.know how it goes
Edit: install the drivers before anything above https://www.box.com/shared/707d2d40dd444453225f

Arrrr harrrrr! Drivers. Duh... I'm sure that's it. I think in my tiny little mind I was assuming that since the SD-Card showed up on my box, the drivers were installed. Now that I think about it. They aren't. I bet that'll work. Unfortunately I only have Macs at home so I gotta wait till I get to the office tomorrow.
Forgot I had my new laptop. =) Well, I got further than I did the first time. It found the phone and got to the # sign, but what the hell does it want? It shows:
when you get to the # prompt please type the following command
I can't type anything at the # prompt and I tried typing ./data/local/tmp/root.sh and adb shell "sync_agent ztex1609523" and lastly just tried sync_agent ztex1609523 thinking I just couldnt see the text. Just sits there.

Okay, now I know I'm not crazy. This may work on some Metro PCS phones but it doesn't work on others. Mine and a coworkers included. In fact, the coworker just walked in the door with hers - bought it this morning, so no apps or changes have been made at all. I've tried running the batch file on 5 different PCs, Win XP and Win 7 and it does the same thing on both phones and on both PCs.
It gets to the # prompt and sits there. You can't type at the prompt, it doesn't let you. It just sits until you cancel the batch file or unplug the phone. I'm confused because I would have thought it was something up with my phone or the PC I was using. Now that I've tried multiple phones and multiple PCs with the same exact results it kind of makes me think I'm either missing something or something is up with this batch file.
This is basically what I'm seeing in the CMD prompt box:
ok good to know, well you can do it all manually :/ since apparently a script doesnt appear to be working. im flying blind here so i did what i figured would work

Oh really? Well if you have time to give me a quick lesson on how to do it manually, please do! My employer told me that my cell bill would no longer be paid by the company if I didn't have my email working by Monday. I was going to go buy yet another new phone and I really like this one! I just bought it a few weeks ago!
