    Root Difference between a Rom and a Kernel?

    I have the latest nightly cyanogen build but am confused as to exactly what a kernel is. Should I install a new one if I never have before? Does a new kernel just provide more speed? Thank you.

    Slingbox, no fullscreen?

    I'm only getting aspect ratios with the Classic, but according to sling there is supposed to be a screen size option too? SD channels almost fill screen, HD channels through classic have bars all the way around. Anyone getting full screen with any box?

    Extracting .apk from stock rom

    Shortly after rooting, my voice search and google maps got corrupted. How do I extract these out of the stock rom? Or is there a place to get these already extracted? Thanks
