Post How to Root ICS official ROM with HBoot 1.27.XX

Hi All,

I am trying to root my HTC Sensation 4g (TMobile) version.

Current ROM : ICS 4.0.3
HTC Sense 3.6
HBoot: 1.27.XX

Its unlocked and I am using it in India.

Now I am trying to root the phone.

Try revolutionary options .. I am not able to do it as it does have HBoot 1.27....

Can anyone help me in this.

Thanks

the only way to root 1.27 and 1.29 hboot is via juopunutbear: Unlimited.IO
you will need to unlock thru htcdev first. Welcome to HTCdev

afterward, you can install a recovery, and then flash the superuser file within recovery.
clockwork recovery: PG58IMGcw5.0.2.0.zip

superuser for ICS: [21.06.2012] SuperSU v0.92 - xda-developers

hi scotty, new member here. i saw this thread and i was happy cus i'm so lost! i followed the unlimited io site you mentioned for the sensation: Instructions | Unlimited.IO

but i'm still confused. do i need to download the JuopunutBear hboots? also, isn't there an easier way to root the damn phone?

i've already unlocked it from HTCDev. now just still rooted!! very frustrating as i'm a total noob

no,you dont really need the jpbear hboots. if you run the stock hboot you will have to install things as PG58IMG files, you cant use the fastboot flash command with a stock, locked hboot.

if you have allready unlocked and flashed superuser to root your stock software, you just need to run juopunut bear to get s-off.

the basic steps are:
1)unlock via htcdev
2)install rtecovery
3)flash superuser files
4)run jp bear

at that point you can do whatever you want. you can change firmware, superCID to run other regional/carrier RUUs,change splash screens, etc. or you can flash a rom,or even just continue running rooted stock.

if you still need to flash recovery and root, you can use my rezound guide: Scottys noob friendly root guide-start to finish

youll just need to use the recovery and superuser i linked above. everything else should be the same

sorry, theres not an easier way to s-off ICS and 1.27 hboot. its well worth the effort,IMO to really enjoy the sensation you need to be s-off and superCID(more on that later)

dont be satisfied with htcdev,it sucks.

Exclamation new to droid and having issues

Let me start of by saying that I am a noob...

just bought a T-mobile HTC Sensation 4G to us on my already established StraightTalk service (previous/current/broken :/ phone was an iPhone <3 3Gs from AT&T)

The network is unlocked... but my MMS is still down and my web speed sux... I have been reading up on it, but I am still a bit confused. I did manage to figure out the apn situation so at least it works a little bit, but lets face it a girl needs the ability of fast web and pic messaging.

My h-boot is 1.27.0000
Android version 4.0.3
HTC sense version 3.6
(if you need more info just ask)

From what I understand this, and the fact that the phone I bought is newish, is causing it to be a pain in my tuckiss...

I am currently trying to do the step by step over on Scottys noob friendly root guide... but i am stuck on HTCdev... it seems either the site is down or somethings up because it won't go any further than the bootloader screen with the drop down menu to pick your device...

Is there another option... that is equally noob friendly... or should I give up and use the broken iphone till it dies or I can pay someone to do all this for me... :/

I appreciate the advice upfront...

Yours Truly
Julie -frustrated new droid owner

there were prolly just issues with the site. i checked it just now,and it seems to be working. just make sure you use the files linked above,as the recovery listed in the rezound guide is not compatible with the sensation. tho all the steps are the same.

hopefully the process goes smoothly once the site cooperates

if youve gotten data to work, you should have working mms also. it may just be working slowly because of your slow data speed,or its possible that youve entered apn info not quite correctly. try and determine if your using the correct apns for straingt talk using att towers, and then double check the settings youve entered. sometimes a reboot will help, and sometimes you can just use a 3rd party messaging app(like handcent,or gosms) to sent a few mms and then the stock app will start working.

the bad news,is that youre stck with the crappy data speed. assuming that the straight talk on att's towers uses the same frequencies for 2g,3g,4g as att,you will only get those speeds with an att device, due to the physical radios the device is equipped with. a t mobile or cin-bell branded device just does not have the correct radios to get anything other than edge data(the little E in the status bar) when used on att service. i mess with alot of htc phones, and have t mobile for gsm devices. whenever i use an unlocked ATT device,i only get E data, for those same reasons. t mobile and att are unfortunately different

so before you get too far into this, you may consider trading or selling your t mobile sensation, and picking up a dedicated att device. the inspire 4g is a nice att phone. it is basically the same as the desire hd,and thus,a fair amount of regional stock software is availble,as well as numerous custom roms. its an att phone and thus should get all data speeds straight talk offers.

the att one xl is a really nice phone as well, nice screen, thin, and is also a deicated att device. only prollems are that the most current software is unrootable at the moment, and youll have to cut down yuor sim to micro sim size, and if the device needs to be unlocked to use on straigt talk, then you may have to pay for an unlock code(i just did,to use mine on t mobile )

an international phone may work for you as well,if you can find one. a non t mo sensation,or an international desire hd,may not get 4g,but usually international devices will have the correct radios for 2g and 3g. wich is better then edge

hope that helps some, just holler if you have more questions

edit
if you are near dayton ohio,or want to ship the phone,id be happy to help you.i can help with just about any htc phone that you may come across

Thanks for the reply!!

I almost forgot about this post actually. I did end up or actually I am in the process of trading (why its taking this long i have no idea), but the suggestions they have given me thus far are the Atrix2 and the GalaxyII.
I am kind of worried about the whole trading situation at this point, to which I don't even want to go into, but I have about 200 bucks into my 'new phone' so far and I want to get the best phone for the money.

My demands are:
6+mp camera - I do a LOT of photography type stuff with my phone.
Flash and and front facing camera of good quality. I want a camera that preforms well, something that I can tweak- if you know what I mean.
I want something durable and long lasting. My last phone (iPhone 3gs) lasted me 3 years, a year of which had massive damage to the screen, yet still worked beautifully-if flawed. I want the same reliability.

I have read and watched many review and opinions... but any others are more than welcomed.

So I guess my question is, which would you choose, if you were me. I use my phone for typical girl shit... lol texting, web/social media, and photography.

Atrix2 or GalaxyII and why. Thanks in advance.

you are asking the wrong guy about that,lol... i am an htc fan,and would never personally get a samsung or a motorola device.

i have been impressed with the durability of every htc phone ive owned, ive dropped them, flashed them repeatedly, they ride in the 100+ * heat for 8 hours while im working. IMO htc is good quality.

if photography is a big factor, defaintely check out ATTs one XL. it should work with your straight talk service(assuming that uses atts towers) and has got a phenominal camera. the new snapdragon s4 processor is FAST,and its got new battery technology and a more optimized UI that makes battery life considerably better than older htc devices "out of the box". the sense UI has several widgets(favorites, friendstream, etc) that are pefect for "girl shit" if you can find one for a price youre willing to pay,i think youd be very happy with it.

just make sure whatever phone you get is intended for ATTs network,or possibly an international variation,as any phone intended for cin bel or t mobile is going to give you the same slow data prollem you have with your sensation.
