READ ME: Staff Changes, Infraction System, Other Stuff.
Ok guys. The site is undergoing a few changes that you all need to be aware of. We are going to be tweaking rules/guidelines where needed, making staff adjustments, and while we're at it - cracking down on the rude behavior we see on the site. This was something that was needed a year or so ago and once everyone was whipped into shape things were good for a long time. The new VZW/Android thing has smiled upon us, and brought us a much larger community. This is a good thing! However, with 4.. 5... 700 registrations A DAY we do get a variety of personality types. This first part of this post is to address that.
Behavior
Good Eggs: For those of you who are being helpful, contributing nicely, and are respectful to your fellow members – we thank you! We applaud those that resist getting sucked into fights and flame wars and all that stuff. Keep it up! However – please DO report trouble users/posts/threads. This is very very important. We cannot read every thread here, there is just no way – and we rely on the community to to help us weed out the trouble users.
Also the TIP US button is NOT for reporting trouble users. There is a "report this post" button below that. Use it. Please use TIP US for news tips - leads, etc.
Bad Potatoes: We are initiating an all-but zero-tolerance policy on the "poor behavior" issue. You are encouraged to debate, even if they are heated debates – that is fine.. but do NOT get downright mean to your community-mates. Name calling, being overly condescending, carrying disagreements across threads and starting more fights.. all that kinda stuff has got to stop. Everyone here needs to keep their cool and remember people come here for help and to be a member of the community and don't want to have to sift through flame wars to get the info the need.
Be respectful to everyone. Do not be hateful. Do not flip out if someone disagrees with you or has wrong information. Agree to disagree. Do not hate on “noobs” for having questions. Even if they don't search. Just don't post if you have a problem with it. (Though, the new threads may get merged with an old one. More on that later.)
It's simple, really – be civil to those around you. Save the smart-ass comments for when they are actually and clearly “ha ha funny” and not “damn - that was rude.” If you don't have something constructive or nice to say - don't say it.
As the rules thread gets updated if and as needed, I will post on it noting so.
Infraction System
The infraction system is now a standard. A certain number of infractions will cause you to be put “on probation”, more will cause you to lose your posting privileges. Or banned. Please do not try to work the system. “Oh okay so I can get x more points between now and Friday, got it”. None of that.
This system is not our overall solution. It is to supplement what we already do. To help us as a group keep track of what we each are doing. There can and surely will still be bans outside the system.
Be a decent member and civil to those around you and this system won't even effect you.
Last Thing
One last thing guys. Please understand we have a huge slew of posts hitting every minute. We do our best to keep things clean, merge what needs it, etc. If we don't do this things are a huge mess with each new thread you post finding its way to page 2 in 5 minutes in a couple of the forums.
Every once in a while things happen that aren't the perfect solution in everyone's eyes. I realize this. A rational, calm PM to me or a senior mod will get you much further than actin'-a-fool.
Also understand that everyone makes mistakes. Include the staff here, including me. When mistakes do happen we correct what we can. Sometimes we can't and I apologize for when that happens. We DO NOT like to see embarrassing mistakes happen but every once in a while, with all the actions we take on a daily bases, it happens.
Please remember this is a site you are using for free - don't take for granted the community we are trying to provide. This is costing you nothing. On the flip side - others have lived very meager lives for the past year and a half flipping the (large!) cost of this place while getting it to the point where it can finally start to pay for itself. (Until more traffic grows and more hardware is needed - again.)
Thanks for your time.
By the time you're done reading this I'll remember stuff I meant to include.

The main thing I love about this place is the sense of community, and the feeling that we actually want to help each other out. I'd like to say thanks to everyone, phasers and shivers especially (mainly for tea time, helps me sleep on the train in mornings), and a special mention to those mods/helpers who seem to be everywhere at once, hope you don't burn out with all those posts!!

Good work guys, and congrat's to all!
I'm w moonsbabe on spending time here and finding this to be possibly the best android forum on the net presently.
I think that telling people to "read their users guide" or even "do a little google-ing" is reasonable and appropriate in some instances, but doing so with a helpful, friendly tone isn't always easy for me. If admin feels that only moderators should do that, let the rest of us know. I was raised in Chicago but am not a Chicago politician, so I'm very direct and need others to be direct with me.
Congrats to all! The new mods certainly deserve it! I tried my hand at Minimod (guide)...I was in the Eris forum, and had a change of heart and got a Droid instead. While I tried to visit the Eris section, I did not do it with diligence, and spent most of my time in the Droid area (though I did not use any mod powers in that sub forum, as that was not my place.) This said, I expected to be pruned...
So a note to all current and future guides/mods, if you ever happen to be pruned, don't worry about it. We still get to post up a storm on the best Android forum on the net!
@ Phases, I hope in the future, you will consider me if an opening occurs in the Droid forum (or other general, non specific phone areas)...
Dear Android Forums team,
please remember that, even in spite of all the complaining that's going on here, without your efforts we wouldn't have a place to be arguing. It's always easier to find flaws (in phones, forum behaviour, other users) than it is to praise something that just works. Even so, I personally would have been lost without this great community. Forums like this is what makes the Internet so useful. It's what heightens everyone's skills and knowledge.
I guess I'm trying to thank you guys ever so much in my own quirky way. :-)
Congrats to all who have received their new pips and thanks to everyone for their hard work. As a mod on another forum, I know how hard and thankless this job can seem. But I also know what an invaluable resource boards like this are to the community and joining this board was one of the first things I did after getting my Droid. Kudos!
Thanks for the opportunity to use this site. It's nice to know that hateful posts will not be tolerated. I've noticed some members being badgered. I plan to report those posts from now on. I'll start with this thread: Dumping this Droid nonsense.

I think you missed the point. These phrases should be banned! As Phases stated "Just do not post if you have a problem with it." So how was that for contradicting myself?

@phases: the point are well taken and fully agreed and will complied.
Also i am presently a Iphone user and i joined this wonderful community in the beginging of Dec 09. Btw,i am also member of two other Iphone communities.
I am here to get more info on the Droid and i have learnt alot since then. Just you know, I found that the people in this community are very helpful and are very very passionate about their Phones and are ready defend their turf. What a common bond.
There is a difference between passion and arrogance. The iphone users are the latter.(I used to feel that way too)
They cannot take an simple factual comparison. All the iphone is,a glorified toy and the the Droid is a adult laptop, i said that because my laptop can do multi-tasking.
We all concurred that nobody and nobody, yes no body beats the iphone in games apps that's is why we all agreed it's a GLORIFIED toy. They don't like that.
BTW, I am here to learn about the Droid (ANDROID) and if the topic comes about the iphone among our COMMUNITY no one should get agitated. After all, this is a android forums. I suggest no more Iphone bashing unless...................you want more DRIIIIIIIOOOOOOOODDD bashing!
There are three Iphone sites, please go to the area where you belong. You are welcome here if you decide to change your Iphone to any android phones like me ( I'll be changing my Iphone (sell) come early 2010 when the Milestone officially launched in canada.) It took me 10 mins when I went acrossed the U.S border on U.S thankgiving to tried out the Droid and that was it. My decision were glorified computer or a glorified toy and preferred the former.
Hey Phases is there still a guide for the Moment Forum? It has been getting a little crazy in there lately. I may have missed it in all the new threads and replies. Just curious, if not if help was needed I could hlep once again. I know I didn't log in enough before but I would be willing to help as much as possible. Even if temporary to help clean up some things.

Don't forget to hit the button when someone helps you
Nope. Each phone section does not have a dedicated guide. Although it may seem like that. lol The Guides are an extension of the staff and they all work together in all forums to keep the areas clean, merge and move threads, stick and unstick threads and report posts etc.
Thanks for posting something that im sure was much needed...i love the fact that i can go thru several posts and see just helpful words instead of fighting. At least for a majority of them.
I've been a part of other communities that are not this way and the staff was worse than the members...what a shame.
Thank u to everyone here that keeps this place a pleasnt one to visit.
