Thanks and like are basically the same thing, except one keeps a tab at the top of the thread highlighting the top clicked. Which is useful.
I fail to understand why one might choose "thanks" instead!
Because we really would benefit greatly from two separate mechanisms.
Recall, we've been requesting it, but Share and Like aren't it.

Example, you get a problem thread, partial solutions get thanked along the way, but when the final solution gets posted, it was becoming too hard to use thanks to see the hot post.
So, the Share button allows us to share that an answer exists - to the outside world. And Like/Thanks has grayed over the distinction.
Respectfully, would still like to see a mechanism that allows people to point and say - "This is the solution, this is the one to share, this is the one to see." - in addition to ongoing recognition, whether that button is called Thanks/Likes/My Hero, etc etc.
Keep the Thanks, and rename Like to something better - such as Solution! or something like that. Do that, and then call thanks whatever you like, organize their appearance however you like, then it's all good.

Everything got smaller!...LOL. This would be fine on my big 26 inch monitor at home, but on my tiny 19 inch monitor at work...LOL...It's making me squint. Had to increase zoom on Chrome by 15%.
There's an issue with the dark blue bar at the top (containing home, carriers, phones, tablets, etc). When you hover the mouse over them on the main forum overview it's fine but when you hover over them in an active thread that has "likes" in it, the likes bar lays over top the popup content and blocks it. Yet another reason to 86 the "likes".

Happens on Chrome and Safari, not on Firefox.

But we need two mechanisms.
I would like to see one button trigger both events (so clicking Thanks adds a Thanks and a Like) but only show Thanks on profiles and posts. As for Likes, only show the Liked posts (renamed Thanked Posts) at the top of the thread to highlight the helpful posts within the thread as this is the only benefit I see to it above thanks. And an important use of thanks that I don't see in likes is color coding.

I agree with this too
Sticking with only one system, or better differentiating the two systems, are both viable ideas. The compromise we have at the moment, however, doesn't really work.

Defeats the original point when we requested a separate mechanism.
Again - if you have a thread that iterates to solution, the solution post often does NOT get the most thanks. People don't read threads, they read so far, then post.
Thread after thread, the problem is solved in post 30, but posts 35 through 60 are all discussing the problem with post 20 (most thanked) and then theorizing bad solutions, arguing after the fact until chaos reigns - all because there's no mechanism to point out the post that ends the chaos and solves the problem.
That's why we need a separate Solution button. Not a Thanks, not a Like, not a Share on Twitter -> a Solution <- that mods can override if abused or if the solution gets broken later.

Ah, I see. I started an SB&F thread about that a loooong time ago. I was hoping for a way for it to quote or link to the solution post within the OP. Seems I have seen this on other forums but I could be misremembering.

Really pleasantly surprised! I like it alot...
But in regards to the getting rid of the "thanks" button and just using the "like" button doesn't sound like a good idea to me. "Thanks" is a nice way to acknowledge someone's help. "Likes" get thrown around like candy on halloween. They aren't as meaningful in my opinion.
I just logged in about 5 seconds ago and have just seen Android Forums has gone with the taboo and done dare I say it?
A SEX CHANGE!
Wow!
This looks really really cool!
I am gonna check out the source and see what has changed!
I am interested to see what has happened under the hood?
Maybe some CSS stuff I am guessing.
Hmmmmm now that I think about it... I will quickly check Firefox 13.01 under Linux Mint 13 and see if that same bug is still there!
I love bugs they are my family!
xD
Thanks to Rob, Phases and all the other guys that helped make this site for FREEEEEE!!
You guys are awesome, this place is for free and I am really grateful for the OUTSTANDING service from both the site and the Guides, Moderators and all other members that make this place just great!
Yay!
And we all know that the best things in life are FREE
Like Linux!
And oxygen!

1. Like - it says that you said something useful to someone unlike thanks its just an ataboy
2. Thanks - it says Thank you for taking the time to give us your thought or your explanation of this or that
3. Share- Would say there is something to good here not to share with everyone.
My Thoughts are this to many buttons is like to many stickys. They really make things feel way to cluttered. Also as far as a Solution maybe have a button that only guides and mods can use that validates a solution and sends the post to the solutions part of that forum (this so others cant just send post there say I think i have the solution and then just post it and its not or it only works sometimes)
I think the goal here is to always show friendly to make everyone feel welcome. Some one new doesn't want a ton of stuff just functionality and ease of use. While the buttons are great Ideas it can be just as over whelming I like the "Like" button but lets not get button happy lets just keep things simple for everyone.
Only thing that would be even cooler is if, on the main page, after I'd read a story that story became "hidden" on the front page (with stories lower down moving "up") but with the option to "unhide" them (a button at the top?).
I dont ask for much, but my friend is going through some rough times,
if you wish to donate to me send it his way, he needs it more than i do Donate here
Know an unloved device? swing by our new forums
I knew that one day Phandroid would adopt the Holo look from Android! Great job guys!
There's a small bug I found, though. On the navigation bar menu on top, the link under "Apps" that says developers can publish their apps is broken. It just links "#" instead of the page. I hope that's fixed soon.
Edit:
The same goes for the contact option on the same menu.

I think the buttons could use a different look and maybe a different color on the sides instead of grey maybe? A new look for profile viewing and the Thanks I'm fine with IMO.
Maybe it could be called thumbs up?

Also, you can barely tell when you have a post selected for a multi-quote. Before redesign it turned from blue to red and was easy to spot. Not it just shades the text... hard for me to tell if i selected it or not

I'm not sure if this is what you mean or not, but one of my other forum haunts has a cool option for a post in a thread that is the "best answer". The OP of course chooses which post in his thread answered his question best. If you check the thread you will see that post #2 is marked with "Best Answer" by the OP. You'll also notice that post #2's outline is highlighted making it stand out more than the other posts.
Something to note: when the OP chooses whatever post in his thread is the Best Answer, that post moves itself up to now be post #2. So essentially, the best answer could of been post #48, but once chosen as Best Answer, it bumps up to post #2. The OP can also change his mind later if a better answer is posted (in which case that one gets moved up to post #2).

I like the idea the only problem here is that Someone will come and ask a question it gets answered but they either a) never come back to see it or b) don't care enough to post credit or say thank's. So then how would the "Best" be rewarded?

Maybe after a certain amount of time has passed (admins can suss that out) either an Admin, Mod, or Guide can choose the best answer. That way new people reading the thread can still benefit.

Colours and everything is fine, and folks will always complain, but on Chrome using a HD resolution screen the text size is unreadable really for longer than a minute.
I have attached a screenshot showing how this forum looks compared to another on my setup...I put both side by side..this is the only forum that has fonts this small that I have viewed today.
Is there something I can do to fix this on my end? Every other site I visit looks fine, so I would just like to change the text size for this site.

I like the cleaner look, but for me at least, I think the lighter margins on each side take away from the readability of the thread I'm looking at in the middle.

Like others have said... can there be an option for a darker background. Even with my laptop screen dimmed, it's still too bright. Larger font size would be appreciated as well. Don't mean to nitpick but the brightness is hard on the eyes. Just reading these two pages and I'm needing a break. Thanks, for considering the input.

I for one like the new color scheme. The old one screamed "I am on the internet" with just a glance. Now it matches a database color scheme I use at work... Can you see where I am going with this?
