Messages Recieved Losing Special Characters

I have an r800i and all special characters like á é í ó ú and ñ work fine in broswers in sending messages and everything else. But when it comes to recieveng a message they lose the accent (á turn to a) and sometimes it changes the character (é turn to a wierd box). Even when sending messages the other phone grabs those characters just fine. Help please!
