I updated 4.0.3 to the next update via PC Companion and just as the update was wrapping up, PC Companion crashed and the phone died. I was unable to turn it on. It showed only an exclamation mark in a triangle and a phone icon.
I downloaded Sony Update Service and did the update again and everything seems to be working correctly now.
But despite the easy fix, the Sony people may want to look into this bug. I found a topic from somebody else of the support forums with the exact same issue.

This is unfortunately not something that is easy to replicate. Often it comes down to a bad install, conflicting application or security software blockage that causes this type of problem.
