Laugh Swype beta is out and works on X10

Hey guys just saw over in the lounge section that the Swype beta was open so I registered on their site half hour ago and now I have Swype on my X10 and it is amazing!

This is the best app so far!

Here's the link Swype | Text Input for Screens

Thumbs up

After trying (unsuccessfully) several found versions online, I registered on their website for the next beta. I got the email yesterday saying I could download it for my phone. I have, and its great.

My only complaints so far are that there still doesn't seem to be any landscape support, and the default prediction setting needs to be adjusted (which I will tinker with at a later point).
Otherwise its great, and once landscape mode is supported, I would gladly pay a couple dollars to use this keyboard all the time.

What? Really?

It has got every word I have swyped into it so far and love the way you swirl on a letter to double it for words like "foot" or "been".

I have had no landscape issues at all! Just turn the phone on its side the screen does its "fuzzy" thing and there it is in landscape mode. Seems odd your having issues? It even works fine on my girlfriends Samsung Galaxy Portal.

the swype milestone version works landscape so you shouldnt have a problem with that one.

talking of milestone, is there anyone whos tried out both the milestone version and the latest x10 version.. if soo is there really any difference?

im thinking maybe its not worth me going through all the hassle if its going to do the same thing.. the milestone version works perfectly fine for me but was wondering if theres anything additional to make me change my mind?

thanx

Yes it works great, just have to get used to sliding now instead of typing...LOL.. But it works way better then the version I downloaded awhile ago.

Give Shapewriter a try from the market too, it's a Swype clone that imho i find slightly better than Swype.

It's due to be pulled from the market on the 20th June (probably due to it's similarities) so get it now while you can...and it's free

I got in to the Swype beta last night and have been using it ever since. It truly is amazing how well it works! The only time it stumbled over something was when it was a word that involved an apostrophe (which I just typed out as usual), otherwise it got everything. It even got my gf's last name right on the first try, it is a pretty Slavic name and it didn't even hiccup on it. I'm quite impressed with it.

I take it you didn't read what the app says it does to your phone state? It does tell you before you install the app it will do this.

But if you go to your setting and readjust the time it takes for the screen to sleep then it resets this issue and your screen will turn off, but for some reason it looks like the settings have not been altered but just click on what ever seeing you had before and it's sorted.

Huh. I didn't even notice that in the app description about it keeping the phone from turning off the screen. I always use the Power button to put it to sleep and it hasn't been a problem. Actually come to think of it, I've had to go answer my landline while in the middle of writing a text with Swype and when I come back to the phone, the screen is off. Maybe I had already adjusted these settings before the app was installed and that worked?

Downloaded and installed (X10) and it works fine. It is very nice.

What concerns me is that when I clicked enable Swype in the language settings, a pop-up says "This application will collect everything you type including credit card number and passwords". Really !?!

I noticed this too. It definitely bothered me. Why would it need to do this? What happens to that info it collects?

EDIT: I just went to the beta install instructions page and at that particular section, they have a disclaimer that they don't collect any of this information.

I just wanted to add that after tweaking the prediction settings to pop up a bit less, I find swype way more effective. Also, for whatever reason, Landscape mode did not work at first, however after going through all the settings, it now does.

Truely the best keyboard you can find, and after a few days of using it, I doubt that you will want to go back!

The first download is an installer app for swype then after installing this and opening it then asks if you would like to install the swype program, input your username and password you set up before installing the installer app and then it should start to down load the program and after this and a few clicks you should have it.

Cool Swype for Xperia 10

Hi all,

I have heard good things about Swype. I need to know how and from where can I install Swype on my Sony Erricson Xperia 10 . Being disabled and with limited use of my hands, I feel this would make my life much easier.

If you cant get swype: the beta test acceptance is over but someone did post a link to download it but it got pulled as it was against site rules but you can get Shape writer on the market which is almost the same by all accounts.

Create a new thread for your question. And please elaborate. To unlock, we don't help with, to unroot, we will, to remove apps (you will probably need to root first) and install something like Titanium Backup.

Hi, I've just registered and recieved the email with the code, but first I need to uninstall swype from my phone. But there are two little issues:

1. Swype does not have an activated 'Uninstall' button. I suppose this is because it came with the system (Stock ROM).
2. There is no swypeinstaller to remove.

So obviously the question would be:

1. How do I remove Swype if the Uninstall button is greyed out? (and how do I remove other stuff, if the same of course).
2. I'm not sure if i really don't have swypeinstaller as well. Maybe it's possible not to (and maybe this is why I cannot uninstall?). What do I need to know about this?

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Ace running ROOTED stock FroYo.

You have asked your question in the wrong section.

But there are a few things you can do. Change what keyboard you are using so that it isn't the SWYPE one. Then remove any of the SWYPE files that installed when you originally set it up.

Or install the newer version (that is no longer Beta) and see if after updating, you are able to remove it. Does that fully remove it?

Read this if you haven't:

Thanks. I apologize about the secion thing, but I thought this is relevant since it has to do with updating to the new swype? Is it the wrong section because the forum is phone-specific?

Anyway, I suspect locking the installation of Swype has to do with my rom being stock or something. I can't be sure unless somebody helps.

Here's a very swype relevant question:

If I install the swype installer, will it update my existing swype installation with the new one, even if for some reason it is 'locked' (can't be uninstalled)? Of course I cannot risk trying at this stage because I cannot spend time to fiddle with my phone. I've got school work to do; major stuff.

If this is the wrong place for me to post, please accept my apologies and point it out. I will take this somewhere else.

Just that you might have more luck in your phone specific section, just because I am sure there are others who have had the same question and know a way around it....if there is one. If not...root.

Swype was available only as a beta for us Sony x10 users and required root access (or at least debugging) in order to install the beta before the real full release came out about a month ago or so.

I would suggest copying and pasting your same question in a new thread here:

Samsung Galaxy Ace - Android Forums

Or maybe take a quick look at some of the other threads they have created over there.

Maybe this - Switch keyboard

Swype

Thanks a lot beau!

I didn't know the beta was only for Sony. If it says that on the swype website, then I've missed it.

By the way, I am rooted, and I used Titanium Backup to remove those system applications. I didn't remove swype though Wanna make sure everything system-related remains intact until I finish my dissertation. I cannot afford to have a phone failure in the meatime.
