Thanks for posting that. I am glad that they clarified about not everyone receiving it day one.... it is a roll out which means that the process will take time to reach everyone.

Trouble is they said that ages ago when it was by end of Q3

thing with a roll out is the could release Nordics on 31st and still not do UK till December, but still classed OK as it was stated "roll-out"

anyhow

I think we are getting carried away with 2.1.

Besides being able to download some apps that I can't get on 1.6 and a better camera, I don't think it is going to be that earth shattering for me.

hence why i have NEVER understood all the hyping - why does everyone need it now

its not gonna bring that much extra to what we have

and there's some 2.1 handsets out on the market now that CANNOT do anything that i can't (except apps)

My concern is that there are fewer and fewer new apps which are backwards (ie. 1.6) compatible. Skype is a big one in question.
It's becoming more obvious and it's a bit of a pain.

<worry>And even then, how long will it be before we're left behind on 2.1 as others progress from 2.2 to 3.0? </worry>

Do you know MrW, I don't think that it will make much difference to me, I'll probably just download the Eclair ADW and have it all set up the same as I currently do cos its just easier for this old gal to do it that way. I have really struggled to get to grips with the hysteria over the upgrade.

Watch them release it Nov. 30. Cuz they wouldn't be wrong if they did that, it's still November haha.

And seriously, I already made a list of apps i really want/need with 2.1. So I think majority of people aren't looking for SE's so called "improvements" but more so the apps that require 2.1 hence all the angry people.

Wouldn't bug me at all if it were Nov. 30 -- I'm patient. It's only a month. But I'd anticipate we'll see it more mid-November.

We'll see though. It'll get here when it gets here. I haven't had any limitations on what I can do with my phone based on 1.6 other than angry birds, so *shrugs* rofl.

I keep my expectations low.. saves me from disappointment

i don't need any apps on 2.1 except

ANGRY BIRDS

so bloody addicted and sick of carrying iPod Touch to play it

oh and battery life would be good so i can play it longer

just hope i can root the 2.1 soon so i can keep my UI and FONT as it looks so much better than the sony tat

There seems to be alot of rogue apps that people are using without knowing they are easting their battery.

So I may start a thread for X10 users to list rogue apps that eat at their battery

trouble is i get 20hrs out of it WITH that app installed, with heavy texting, tweeting, emailing and wi-fi

so i don't understand how it can kill 1 users battery and not another

hence why i will uninstall to see if it lasts any better over next 2 days

Well I have a rogue app somewhere but I am unsure as to which it is, as no apps are displayed in the battery use section. My battery would usually last me a whole day with alot of battery left. But now I'm merely getting 5 hours out of it

Anyway, SE are rolling the update out to Nordic firmware handsets first..so maybe they are using a small market as Guinea Pigs? Something seems wrong anyway. Why Nordic first? Why not UK or USA? There's something not right here.

But like I always say...I could be wrong, as Ericsson was a Swedish company before it merged with Sony, so maybe that's why lol

slight point of order, I pointed out the 2.1 would be on Sunday for nordic, which I think is fairly common knowledge now(provided SE do as they say),
but in the same thread I said I thought for UK (unbranded) it would be Mon 1st

I keep my expectations low.. saves me from disappointment
Mid-November would be a legitimate guess I suppose. I just wouldn't be surprised if Rogers release it the last day of November and say "We are on schedule with the update so STFU peasants" that sorta thing.

oh and battery life would be good so i can play it longer

just hope i can root the 2.1 soon so i can keep my UI and FONT as it looks so much better than the sony tat
Just to name a few, I really wanna have/try:

- LauncherPro
- Winamp
- WidgetLocker
- Skype
- Whatsapp
- Angry Birds

and I actually got many more apps that I can't remember off the top of my head.

And since so many people are into Angry Birds, SE should be creative and make a rip off version of it called "Angry People or Angry Customers" and have humans replace the birds, and the SE logo replace the pigs. That would be hilarious.

Well, since no one is in the know over here in the good ole' USA, I emailed our friends (if the truth was really known, LOL) at AT&T and here is what they said (WARNING, it is not a happy day here):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
Dear Joey Seidell,
Thank you for taking the time to e-mail AT&T regarding a software update. I apologize for any frustration this may have caused. My name is Ashley Dennis, and I am happy to help you with your inquiry.
I have researched your concern and was unable to locate any official announcement by AT&T as to when or if we would be offering the Android 2.1 update. Please continue to visit our web site (www.att.com/wireless) often to shop and view for new products and service offerings.
Mr. Seidell, I hope that the information provided has been helpful and has resolved all of your questions. Should you have additional concerns or questions about this issue please reply to this email. If you need to contact us again regarding a new issue please send us another email via the contact link through your online account. Again, my name is Ashley Dennis, and I thank you for being a valued AT&T customer for many years. We will do our best to ensure that your wireless experience is a success.
I encourage you to visit our web site (www.att.com/wireless) often to view current and previous monthly statements, make payments and to shop for new product and service offerings.
Sincerely,
Ashley Dennis
Maybe AT&T just don't want to make update promises they can't keep like SE have done for the past months?
Now i do like the wording in there - they can't even confirm that they will offer the 2.1 update
Then tell you to visit the shop not once, but TWICE
Oh, and after a shallow response like that, he/she has the nerve to call themselves a Customer Care PROFESSIONAL
OMFG now i know why AT&T has a bad rep
Annoyingly it seems ill get the update next week, the same week that the desire hd should arrive in my shop and ill be upgrading to that.
Still, should get a few more quid when i sell the x10 the week after if it has 2.1 on it.
I find it funny. As an IT Support rep at a major credit card company, I looked at the AT&T reply & saw 3 paragraphs of cut & pasted reply (1st, 3rd & 4th) with 1 small paragraph stating AT&T has no idea this update is coming.
Looks unremarkably similar to the replies our chat reps send out.
Guess I'm happier about debranding my x10a now seeing how unaware AT&T is about this.
