Default Cannot find tools on PC Companion (hard reset)

I need to do a hardware reset on my phone and everyone has told me to open pc companion->tools but I cant even find tools on it. Can somebody please let me know how to find tools or how to do a hardware reset on my xperia x10

You mean firmware reset? Just click on the button on the left and when it tells you you have the latest version, click "Repair".

Make sure to do a backup on your SD card first (don't forget to backup your contacts).

That button was non existent on my pc companion. I had to download another program called update service to fix the problem I was having and then once I did that and opened pc companion the repair button was finally there but I no longer needed it.

Don't know why. I know when you first open PC Companion it needs to get some info from your phone and then "updates" itself with tools specific to your phone. But I'm sure you tried plugging your phone and entering PC Companion so I don't know why this happened.
