Specifically to circumstances I have defective usb mini port on my cell phone. Phone is fully functional, can be charged and make phone calls, but data transfer or connecting a computer to the phone via USB cable, is not possible. The cable is proper only port on the phone is defective.
So I'm interested in the following , is it possible to update the phone to a newer firmware (ginger or froyo, it does not matter) using only a memory card. So all that would be downloaded to the cell phone via computer to be transferred on the memory card and to do update that way.
Mobile is at factory default settings and has never been rooted or anything similar has been done to the phone, he is "out of the box". Sorry for the poor English, it is not my native language.
Please responde and thank you for your help and quick response.
Too root you NEED to plug USB cable into computer, and to flash you NEED to plug USB cable into computer so the phone enters flash mode.
If the phone was already rooted, then you might be able to install another version of the same OS. So, if it was 2.1, you could install a custom ROM of 2.1 if the phone was already rooted, but even then, you could not install 2.3 without a working USB port on the phone.
If you haven't, try a different USB cable...the Sony USB cable that came with the phone....but if you are sure the USB port on the phone is broken (yet it is still able to charge over USB) then I am afraid there is no way to update.
