It means you can use any sim card in it. For example if it were locked to Vodafone UK, if you unlocked it, you'd be able to use Orange/O2, etc. And I believe sims from other countries while there. Where as debranding would just remove the Vodafone crap from the phone but, still only can use a Vodafone sim card.

An update should not change anything, so it should still be unlocked after.
How well does you 3 sim card work in your xperia, i'm gonna put a 3 sim in mine when i get one... what internet settings and such do you need to enter in?

ok, guess i will jus hav to wait for the update now then, seems like its taking forever to come to me ?
Yeah works all good and well on the 3 sime, i had to put the settings in manuelly, i didnt use the ones 3 gave me cos they never worked, had to play round wif um till they worked, if you need the settings bud jus give me a shout and ill send um over to you

I'm still using my old phone until I can get this unlocked but I have put in an Orange sim just to play around on the phone. Already put full GPS Satnav on it. GPS connection on x10's are wicked connected straight away and found me on map.

Whatever you do.. stay away from the FASTGSM.com service ! They promise to unlock your phone with a data cable bla bla bla...
It doesn't work, then when I write to tech support, I get a complete idiot asking the stupidest questions.. items that I already supplied in my initial email and ...
This goes on and on... .
Their software failed.. point blank... and their customer support stinks like a 4 week old diaper.. Avoid fastgsm.com at all costs if you dont want the headaches I endured !!!!

Never buy anything like that unless you thoroughly read reviews of it on other websites.

call ATT, they gave me a unlock code for nothing. phone just cant be on a plan in someone elses name or reported stolen. i dont even have an att account, i called thme up and asked for an unlock code,took them like 3 minutes and they gave it to me. Easy as that
