You could take it back to the shop to try a couple of things and then get them to repair it under warranty, as long as you still reside in the country of original purchase and have your receipt and have made no modificaitons to your phone, your warranty should be valid.

But at the shop I would also get them to try your phone with their charging unit and usb and possible try their battery from the display model in your phone. What you want to narrow it down to is the point of failure so from the wall working towards the phone... charging plug.... then usb lead... then usb socket... then battery. Obviously if it is one of the removable items that makes it a bit easier to resolve, if it is the usb socket then it will have to go back to be repaired.

yea i am using the oringal but it's ok now i took the battery out a couple times and now it is charging just taking alot longer then normal thanx so much for ur help

I had similar problems with my x10 within the first few months.
There was a problem with the usb connection port (on the handset, not the cable).
I had warranty so they changed the phone for me (lost all apps, annoying!).
Works fine now. What can you expect with a flimsy mini usb connector??

Glad you have got it working, could be a battery problem so keep an eye on it. There is a small app from the market called Battery Graph and it gives you a visual on the charging behaviour of the phone. Mine takes about an hour and a half to two hours to go from somewhere in the 30's to fully charged.

My battery will charge (gets really warm though) to 100%, but will drain really quick. Sometimes I have to charge it up to 3 times a day. Really staring to piss me off.

i rang sonyericsson and told them that i had sent my phone to o2 and that they said there was spillage/water damage. sonyericsson gave me a returns number to send back to them, they also told me not to mention what o2 had said, I sent the phone of last Thursday 27/1/11 yesterday the post office tried to deliver it,while i am typing this reply my phone is now on charge, they replaced the main board, I will now be ringing o2 customer relations up and telling them what i think of thier so called repair centre. the photo o2 sent me of the alleged spillage damage was a burn mark on the board,if it was a spillage i would expect to see some kind of residue on yhe board. hope this helps

Thumbs down X10 is a very bad phone!!

Bought my phone in august last year., The charging has been a problem. Sent it to service via the shop, got it back two weeks later, with new battery. I asked to test it in the shop, and we alle saw that the phone still had the same problem. 5 weeks later I got it back, with a message that now they have put in all new hardware, only the covers where old! ... Tested it at the shop again, but still no charging!! Why the he... can't they trest the phone at the service BEFORE sending it back? This is so stupid, and its very typical SE politics. Just like Nokia used to be.
For me, this is more than enough, I will never buy SE phones again to me or my employees.

thanx guys
If it is still under warranty then yes, what they do is replace the mainboard, as there seems to be a specifc fault with this.

I have had mine fixed for some time now and the life is much much longer it still goes for just over 2 days now (unless I make a durated call) which is increadable considering it was lucky to see a day beforehand (think of the good reviews for this phone if they had discovered this issue earlier).

I hope you get your phone fixed if it's under warranty and I hope mine stays in working condition amazing phone!!

It is definately a problem with the phone.

My gf and i got an X10 last year sometime. Around summer time.
We actually got them because our Sony C510a's both stopped receiving signal at the same time.
We are with Rogers and the phones got sent away for repair. I had the same problem as Bomber and they said my phone had water damage. It hadnt been anywhere near water! It had exactly the same fault as my gfs which turned out to be a software fault. So they just returned my phone still not working.
We just got two new X10s anyways. My gfs stopped charging a few months ago. We knew it wasnt the usb cord or the battery as i used both her charger and her battery to test this and both worked fine with mine.
They sent her a refurbished unit anyways. We werent too happy with this but it was better then having no phone.
Mine has started doing exactly the same thing now. For the price of this phone you would expect that this would be something that they would have tested and sorted before launching the phone. Im starting to think the build of these phones was done at the cheapest possible price (They also opted not to go for multi touch based on saving money on the parts used in the phones).
Im now worried that when i send my phone back to get repaired they will make up some cr@p again that it has had water damage.
Its a pain in the butt as i rely on my cell phone for business and i use it as an alarm clock. Right now charging it actually drains it. I had it charged at 90% when i went to bed and i overslept as it had totally drained the battery.
Does anyone know if this can be software related? I have noticed that my phone and my gfs refurbed phone woudnt charge to 100% (would only go to 90%) on an overnight charge unless you switched the phone off and back on again.
I have got my phone charging right now. I took the battery out, and then wiggled the wire until the light came on and the battery lightning sign appeared.

I love the phone but man does this battery problem annoy the hell out of me!

i had a third party mobile repair technician inspected on my x10.
it the weak micro usb port caused the problem of charging.
my situation is that i brought the x10 oversea before it is officially launched in the U.S.
Now i understand that SE will CHARGES me hundred bucks to repair. but the length of time to get it back from SE will freaks me out completely.
One of My friends she has similar situation and sent it back to SE from U.S. she took nearly 3 months to get it back.

Just wanted to add that I am suffering this same problem. I am in the Uk, contract with O2 and bought the phone from Carphone Warehouse, who are giving me the run around. I am so glad I found this message board which confirms my belief that it's a manufacturing problem. I was told Beyond Economic Repair for supposed 'excessive force', which I have always disputed. The phone is in pristine condition. I feel very let down by Sony Ericsson, whose phones I have always used ... until now!

Heya guys,

I need your help. Mines stopped charging just over a month ago. I sent it back to vodafone and it came back has physical damage. I was shocked. I looked after the phone very well. Not even a scratch on it. And always had a cover on the phone. I didnt even drop it or anything.

All that happened was that the battery ran out and I came home to charge it and it just stopped charging. The screen came on and then shut off again.

And now only the red light flashes when I try to put it on.

I tried to take it to a repair shop and after a 3 weeks wait they came back and said it cant be fixed.

The phone is still under warranty if there anything I could do?

Just heartbroken. And I just dont know what happened.

If I damaged the phone then I understand but just suddenly dying? And then everyone saying I damaged it?

I lost all hope until I came across this thread and maybe there is so hope?

Thanks

Just had a huge freakout!

My X10 was charging and I was texting while it was charging, then it just shutoff. This was at 8am. Because my SIM card gets stuck in the phone, and I dont have tweezers I was freaking out even more. I was getting the flashing red light that every one else is talking about.

Called S.E. and gave serial number and such, processed order to ship. When I put battery back in (3hours later) it magically started working? Confused the heck out of me, but the Cynogen Mod logo popped up, and Im getting a solid red dot. Hopefully it was a one-time freak out only!

However, I did notice my phone acting a lot slower than normal for the past week.

I did also take out the Micro SD as suggested by other posters.

Thanks guys, and just wanted to share my story.

Default This is the problem, and the solution!

Dust is getting into your phone and settling on the contacts for the charger. It's been a problem for many sony ericsson phones, but all you have to do is scrape the dirt off, it settles in the exact spot where the charger contacts sit, so you don't get contact. If it's not charging scrape the contacts on the phone with a needle, lightly then blow, then conect and boom your away.
I'm so sick of trawling through these forums looking for answers, why do people keep posting the same problem over and over and over, and no proper solution? So anyway rant over, I hope this helps everybody.

I have had 2 X10s and at first they were fine but suddenly stopped charging for no reason. I have 2 batteries and 2 chargers. Is it possible to get something faulty twice in a row? I might as well use a turnip. When will they invent a codec like in Metal Gear Solid?

We already have a solution for Xperia X10 not Charging problem... . It only needs a good soldering skills...
Note: I'm a PRO and fixing phones is my only source of living and I won't recommend this solutions to anyone else without electronics knowledge.

I think your battery needs to be replace... batteries will not last long... It also dries up.. Heating is an indication of a weak battery..

Hi, This is the same issue that I am facing, I have had my X10 for just under 6months and the charge (albeit annoyingly poor) was OK until a week or so ago, I am on ORANGE UK and bought from Phones4You, They sent it off under warranty and they have today returned it quoting the same issue 'excessive force', I have NEVER dropped my phone or treated it badly, It is in perfect condition. I am informed that it is NOT a manufacturing problem but as the messages show this is not the case. A colleague of mine had the same mob and got it directly from Orange, They replaced it via a courier service in 24hours. I now wish I had gone direct with Orange rather than trying to save £5 a Month! I am due to see Phones4 You tomorrow to get this issue resolved and I believe that the information shown here would/will be very effective in getting my point across. Thanks all.

Default Xperia Mini Not Charging

My Xperia Mini Used To Charge Fine, But Then It Started Not Working.
I Swapped Chargers With My Sister, Who Has The Motorolla Flipout Handset
And It Worked Fine, Then Recently Stopped Charging And Then Started, And Then It Turned Off And Did The Flash Three Times With Orange Light Thing. I Managed To Get It On, But Then Its Happened Again, And It Wont Even Charge Through My Computer, And Its Completely Out Of Battery, But I've Been Reading Through Other Things, And It Says That If You Take Your Phone In To Be Repaired With This Problem, They Send It Back Saying The Problems 'Unfixable'. I Dont Know What To Do ?

Hi everyone.

Like so many unfortunate x10 owners, my xperia hasn't been charging properly. I am currently in a battle with sony ericsson as they have deemed my phone 'BER' saying that I've damaged the USB port of my brand new phone. A brand new phone that I've only had for a few months! The latest episode in my saga which started in june, is that after many expensive phone calls to them (I am on the phone for with them for ages and they never seem to contact me despite my queries) they have given me an image of the inside of my phone.

Does anyone know what this image means?

Any advice would be great.

"problems unfixable"?!. wel i gues im the lucky 1 if thats the case lol. but sounds like ur usb ports most likely gone.. considering it wont even charge from pc to phone either! i was with t-mobile and i just sent it in to get repaired and they just gave me a crappy replacement handset whilst it was getting repaired. took about 3weeks for them to sort mine cause it was going to repair centre down south.. was torture but happy to have it back

Default X10 got switched off suddenly!

Hi all,
I was doing something on my x10(maybe arranging widgets)when it suddenly got switched off!!.I'm using stock 2.3.3,rooted with Doomlords method.

I tried to flash but it simply wont detect.Whenever i press the power button led blinks(red) for a few secs n thats it!I cant even feel the vibration.I also removed the battery multiple times without any help.

Please help me here...Maybe my battery was low.So i put it on charge for 2 hours but nothing happens...Even the battery didnt get hot

And I dont reside in the country where i bought it from.So warranty problems too

Any help is appreciated.Thx!

I'm going to try an external battery charger for this...

Pretty sure the usb port could be fried b/c it tends to be warm after charging for awhile...Tried 6 different chargers and I'm pretty sure it's the phone that won't charge...

I found it unique that mine had issues the day that my provider and I had issues with extra charges. I would not pay for services I had absolutely not utilized and when the service was suspended, so was the ability for my phone to charge.... I would be able to charge the phone after great effort and once turned on, it then would not charge while running and then I had to absolutely deplete the battery and go again.. from that point, the charging cycle actually would look exactly like expected... turn it on again and all goes sideways... good luck for you. I still have a few ideas I would like to try on this.

Any one have the same issue and how to solve?

*i have delt with this before too.I have been practicing electronics for a long long time...anyways it is very important not to compleatly drain your battery because in order for you phone to relize there is a battery in it it has to have a small charge left.1 charging doesnt kik in until after the screen has been on for a while, until you see the charge screen.2with no charge it will not do anything at all(if this is not a port problem)

FIX
*you are going to have to find a way to charge it manually just so it has enouph juice to get to the charge screen.there are some battery chargers that you simply place the batterys in and they charge, however there are other ways of doing it. you need a power suply of 5 volts dc and a current range of 250 900ma(+-100ma) connect the power supply directly to the battery for a manual charge.in other words if you dont know how to do this you need to reserch "charging phone batterys manualy" or "jump starting a phone battery" do this and the problem will end!!! your welcome

Same problems here seems to be an awful phone for the charging fault, Recently I had problems with my xperia x10 not connecting to my PC but charging fine, I purchased a new usb lead and this sorted the problem with connecting the handset to a PC but now the phone will not charge.

When I plug the phone into the mains and go into settings/about phone it says (charging AC) and the battery on the display moves up with the charging symbol in it but still remaining on 48% for over 3 hours.

I have then plugged it into my PC and on the phone I selected "charge phone" and get the same problem the phone says charging via USB and the battery flashes as if it is charging even the battery gets luke warm like it does when charging but yet still stuck at 48%.

All this seems to have started since I purchased the new micro USB lead to get the phone to connect to a computer, However I have since thrown out the other cable and the bin men have taken it.

Just stuck now - I intend to leave it on charge all night to see what happens in the morning, but seriously thinking I never got this X10 now which is a shame as it looks great.

I will probably ring Sony tomorrow only to be told its because it needs to be an official Sony lead which my response will be if I knew the phone was so picky I wouldn't of got it.

Wish I never got the x10 now does anyone know if sony will take in my phone for repair as I moved and cant find the receipt it has the numbers 10W09 Which im told is 2010 week 9 which will mean I have got until the end of feb 2012 for the warranty, would sony use this or would they insist on a receipt.

Default Sony, don't let me down.

For a long time, I did not like my X10a. I thought the battery life was an abomination, and there were too many shortcomings with it. Then the upgrade came to 2.1 (I believe), and I fell in love it. It seemed like a whole different phone.

Just over a month ago, it turned off, and would not turn back on. I have been so dilligent in taking care of it, and at first, I thought it just needed to be charged. So I plugged it in. You all know the result of that. Nothing. Not even the red blinking light.

After sending it off for repair, it came back as BER (Beyond Economical Repair), and it was determined that I had abused it. Did you know you can abuse your phone by plugging it in with the original charger? Taking care of my electronics is something I do, especially my phones since that is how I get work. I have not had a straight answer from my cellular provider or from SE, but I am battling to get it fixed or replaced.

Sony Ericsson staff, if you are reading this, what ever happened to customer service? I am not saying "the customer is always right", but when so many people have the same problem, can't you just say "sorry", fix it, and stand behind your product? Good business breeds business, and for one would be sure to purchase more Sony products. At this rate, I am not encouraged. I had a problem with a Panasonic DVD player, and even though it was out of warranty, they fixed it for me. I now have Panasonic home phones, VCRs, DVD players, and Tv's, because they gave me reason to support them. They supported me.

Sony, don't let me down.

Default disposable eperia x10

Just add another xperia x10 to the failed charging list. Get this Sony Australia says there is no known issue with charging that it is all "consumer damage". Maybe if they didn't make it disposable and made it to last there wouldn't be so much "consumer damage". As people have said don't get mad, just let everyone know sony are not the brand they used to be.

Hey guys I experienced the same problem on my x10 not charging.
I first thought it was a battery problem because my x10 would turn on when I pluged in the charger, but then realized (after wiggling the wire) it was just the usb port that was loose, I have had 3 x10's with this exact same issue so it is most definitely a manufacturing issue.

But anyways after the third time it happened I decided to just deal with it, my solution was when you plug the charger in, gently pull the cord forward and slightly up it will start to charge, then just gently put the phone down, I usally lean it against something like a remote or side of the couch so it is pushing against the usb plug.

I've been using this method now for about 8 months

I would suggest just getting a stationary standalone charger and an extra battery.

Then you don't have to mess with the USB port....because if you damage it, you won't be able to update.

If I knew my port was already slightly damaged, I would try and prevent from using that port as much as I can....because if it ever does fully break....then you are stuck.

Just something to think about.

And if you guys think it is just the x10.....I work on laptops doing repairs and I would say that at least a 1/4 of all laptops have this problem. If the laptop doesn't overheat and kill the graphics card or processor and the harddrive doesn't die....most of the time, the problem is the charging port.

People are rough with the port. I have 2 broken laptops, one broken and two broken MP3 players that have port issues. Laptops, the AC power, and MP3 players are USB and AC power port.

The port should have been more reinforced and should have been more solid to help prevent issues, but I find the blame is on the owner, not the phone.

I recently had the same problem with my X8 and in the past their older phones have a similar problem with the charging ports. All they do is put the blame on you for the fault and say the warranty is void. Its useless arguing with them because they do nothing. They just say the same thing again and again that its "beyond ecnomic repair" they make the USB ports fragile so they break overtime with use. Best thing is to get it fixed by phone shop or buy an external charger.

Thats where sony ericsson make their money from by ripping us off. If you've made a complaints page let me know i want to join.

This site has absolutely nothing to do with Sony.

Best place to complain about your Sony phone, is to the people at Sony.....or Ericsson.

Well, I have mac and guess what? Not a single port broken (even on 10year old old banger). My 10 year old iPod has no broken ports as well. It depends how you make it, mate!

I'm on my 2nd X10i now, the problem is in the usb plug on the phone, theres a usb charge wire and a data wire, my first phone stopped charging first then then stopped connecting to the computer.
I got it replaced with a re-con in repair with vodafone.
My 2nd one has just stopped charging again, you have to get it in just the right position for it to charge, but you have to keep an eye on it as sometimes it does the opposite and discharges instead! Stupid phone!
I'm now waiting for my returns envelope and hope this will be the last time I have to repair this beast before my upgrade is due.....on top of this the battery power lasts less than a day, if I go out, check in somewhere, send a few texts, it lasts a few hours at best! And yes I have even got 2 batteries so I can change it halfway through the day when it runs out! I'm never getting a Sony again until I know they sorted the battery power out

If you haven't tried, try letting the phone completely drain, remove battery for a few seconds...make sure everything looks clean...charge it back up and make sure that it gets to 100 percent.

If the problem persists please create a new thread and let us know how much it is charging and what you have tried doing to fix it (use another cable or charge from the wall as opposed to USB, or tried using a different battery or you recently upgraded or something or it just happened all of a sudden or it's been gradual or it hasn't been charging or always gets to a certain percentage and stops)
