Default update service???

I have installed update service with my PC for my X8. But I seldom use that service from my PC. This morning when I woke up my X8, a message popped up asking me if I would let my update service continue. I felt kinda perplexed since I had not connected my x8 to my PC for almost a month. Why all of a sudden this service will pop up on my X8? Then with the application "spare parts" I check and confirm that there has been a process named "update service" that stole some of my processor time and contribute some to partial wakelock as well. However, there is not an application called "update service". My question is this: how did this service get awakened? Under which part in my system is it configurated and controlled?

This is related to the following section,

Menu > Settings > About phone> Software Updates,

In this section you may have automatic updates turned on which allows the handset to connect to servers to try update the handset. This is why you will receive a message advising of a new update.
