Had the phone a week - Beats By Dre unhappy
Hey guys, just wondered if anyone out there has similar experience or could try this out
I have a pair of Beats On Tours and despite Sony stating that the Xperia S was now Beats compatible, when plugged in they do not even register on Liveware Manager that a device is plugged in.
The most mysterious part is the Sony rep in my area has an Xperia S and they DO work in hers.
So i swapped my handset at local store assuming a faulty device but still they do not work.
If anyone has BBD & XS can you please try them and let me know if they work or not as i am missing my sound quality having to use Sennheisers again
Thanks
p.s. its so nice to be back on a Sony device after using a GS2 for 6 months

i dont understand the hype around beats!? They are just headphones, i cant see how a pair of headphones can be incompatible with a 3.5mm jack?
What makes beats different to a pair of Sennheiser or Bose?
On top of that people go out and buy these headphones then they rip their cds to 128k audio so its completely pointless as its low quality sound anyway
so is that the phones input is different or the config on the headphone lead is different?
my answer is buy some sennheiser or bose if you want to spend £80 odd on in ear headphones, they work in everything. beats are just fashion soon everyone will stop walking around with massive headphones on
omg i just seen how much beats "on tour" actually cost, are you having a laugh???????
Is this Sonys fault that £120 headphones arent compatible? if you ask me if beats want to charge silly money for headphones they should make sure they work in everything, what a waste unless you only listen to music thru beats and you do it 10 hours a day, in ear headphones shouldnt cost more than £40 regardless. its 2 miniature speakers on the end of a wire, what a con...RANT OVER!

Jees, who are you to decide headphones being overpriced or not? Who are you to judge the OP for buying headphones regardless if they're overpriced or not? He simply asked a question, and you all jumped on his type of earbud? This is ridiculous, do you want him to go and sell his headphones for example?
Sorry, but expensive headphones often offer better quality, Beats are generally overpriced because they're manufactured by Monster in association with Dr. Dre, that doesn't mean they doesn't have amazing sound quality, because they combine function with style, while most other headphones are either focused on style OR sound quality, Beats are a nicer alternative. You think they're expensive? Then you can not buy it, everyone is free whether they buy it or not, you're in no position to judge.
It's the link to Monster that makes me suspicious of the quality, thinking it's all the same hype attributed to their cables sold at huge profit margins.
And those huge margins earn some sales staff big commissions, which means they have every incentive to insist they're the best.
Personally I think Dr. Dre is therefore a bit of a sell out, but probably made a fair few quid so can I blame him? Probably not.
That said, if people are happy with the sound quality then who am I to judge? I'm still entitled to my own opinion though.

Rant over.
Well if you consider what you can get for £120 its a lot for in ear headphones, surely the accessory should be compatible with the phone and not the other way round?
If he wants to have beats then crack on, i never slated him for buying them i voiced my opinion that they are a lot of money and that at that price they would need to be used all day if i was to by them, "you" was a generalisation
For you to say i have judged anyone is plain ignorant, yes it was a rant but it was about the price of a pair of headphones, no i cannot afford to spend that much on headphones if anyone wants to then they can ive got no problem. But when an accessory manufacturer produces a product that doesnt work in certain items how is it the device manufacturers fault?
i have problems with my sennheiser mm70i so saying "go buy a sennheiser" is bullshit.. not working in my xperia s.
why the **** change something that works?
I said "why not" buy Senn or Bose, when did i say to go and buy some?
It was a question. what makes beats worth £40-50 more than Senn or Bose? I hadnt even heard of beats till a couple of years ago or Monster. I was under the impression that Senn and Bose were quality headphones and have been around much longer, maybe im wrong

beats by dre is no more than a few years old. and the hype about em is overrated i give you that... my fustrations are intended on sony for changing the pin config.
i've tested my new xperia s with the following headsets.
- sennheiser mm-70i
- MONSTER CABLE BEATS BY DR. DRE TOUR - CONTROLTALK BLACK
- standard iphone 4s headset with mic and control.
it works if i attach a normal pear of headphones without mic/buttons.
with all the above tests it didn't even recognize it and just played music or calls from speaker..
But isn't it logical for Sony (and others) to adopt the same pin configuration to that used by Apple (and no doubt others?).
I am not sure if there's an official standard, or what that standard is, but it does seem stupid to have to manufacturer and retail two identical headphones/earphones with a differently wired 3.5mm jack at the end.
There are adapters that solve this problem of course, but it will be better once everyone is the same.
I always thought it was the Apple way that was non-standard, but I guess they sell in the largest numbers.
So, it makes sense (perhaps) to adopt the Apple way than ever try and get Apple to change. The ultimate aim must be to have just one design, so you won't need to look for a sticker that said 'Designed for iPhone' and effectively means it may or may not work with your Android, Symbian, WebOS, Windows Phone device.
It's unfortunate, but it has to happen at some time. During the transition time, you'll need to use an adapter. That's what I'm going to have to do, although my main headphones are just headphones - so it isn't affected.
The Sony Xperia S doesn’t differ too much from the Ion: it features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12MP Exmor R camera sensor, and a 720p display, only here it is 4.3-inches in size. If it looks familiar, it’s because we have seen this... Read More
