Yellow tint on a white backgound
Has anyone else apart from myself experienced a yellow tint on their display?? It's more noticeable on a white background, especially when viewing webpages. I happen to notice it more so at the bottom of the display than anywhere else. It seems as if i am not alone, as there are a good number of users on other forums who have noticed this on their Xperia S too.
Some are saying it could be because the Xperia S screen is glued or to do with colour temperature.
I remember reading there were similar issues with the iphone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S2, with there being a very noticeable yellow tint on the S2, and after a firmware update it was resolved. I hope the same will apply with the Xperia S.
Apart from this, i am really enjoying my new phone.

I've just had a doorstep swap on mine from O2 because of the exact same issue. Definite yellow tinge towards the bottom of the screen when viewing a something with a white background.
Doesn't bode well for my replacement handset if you are having the same problem. I did notice on my first handset that the problem would go away if the screen was off for a while
I think some of the issues were fixed by firmware updates. Hopefully Sony will release a fix soon. Bit strange if Sony have dealt with this issue before and haven't included the fix on this model's software.

No, but have noticed that when I leave the phone for a while and come back to it the yellow tint has virtually vanished, till I start using it again and then after a period of time it reappears.

Took it into phones4u earlier in the week, but would you believe it the yellow tint was hardly visible at all when I took it in. I put this down to the bright lighting in the shop, and the fact that I hadn't been using the phone for an hour or so, which means the yellow tint has pretty much disappeared till you start using the phone again.
Going to take it in today again and demand an exchange as i'm not happy.

Just been off the phone to phones4u. They will exchange my phone for a new one but they are currently out of stock of the white in the Kent region where I live. As soon as they are in stock, which hopefully wont be too long I will have a phone without a faulty display I hope.. Will check the display on the new one before leaving the store. Feel better that it's going to be exchanged and me not just persevering and keeping the phone I have now.
Hi guys. I write from Italy so sorry for my bad English.
I'm following this thread and the xda screen problems also.
I have some friends in Italian mobile forum.
Almost everyone seem to have the bottom yellowish shade on white backgrounds. Let's say 7 on 9 people I've asked they have noticed it. Two guys that didn't noticed it at the beginning, after I've asked to do some test, they realize what I was talking about.
One guy on the forum bought 2 Xperia S (one for him, one for his brother) and both of them have the yellowish bottom.
Don't know if could interest you but that's just what I've figured out by now.
I also wrote to Sony Mobile in facebook and they answered me they will give me a reply soon.

Picked up my second Xperia S today. I am happy to report that there is no yellow tint or yellow spot on the lower portion of the display. Have been using the device constantly for the last 2 hours and have encountered no such problems,

I know how you feel. I am on my 3rd Xperia S with everyone of them having either the yellow tint/yellow spot at bottom of display. I have emailed Sony to see if they will replace display or exchange it for another Xperia S with a tint free screen.

Phones4U are expecting another batch on Wednesday, so will be looking to have phone exchanged again. I really hope I hit the jackpot this time, because I am fed up and embarrassed having to keep going back all the time. Phones4U also said that I have been the only customer so far who has bought the phone from their store who has had problems with the display.

So travelled to the closest o2 store 10 miles away today to swap out my XS as advised by one of their staff members earlier this week and. .... Sorry sir we don't have any stock.
Bunch of friggin numpties, why is it impossible to get consistent decent customer service at a phone shop.

So went in today to swap out. The guy Jamal wanted to see the banding before he would swap out, was in there for a hour and a half, could only get to 38/39 C, the staff were condescending and up themselves, had to leave eventually as had limited parking. As I walked out Jamal shouted ' You're Welcome!' If I didn't have my 6mth pregnant wife with me I would have happily kicked off.
Anyway got online as soon as I got home and made a formal complaint, apparently the complaints dept are dealing with this now and will get back to me.

I called the service centre earlier this afternoon and have been told that my Xperia S has been replaced with a new handset. Once I receive it I will give it a thorough testing and report back.

I'll be interested in how this pans out, as I've started noticing some yellowing at the bottom of my display.
I'm not really relishing the idea that I'll have to get a replacement handset to fix it, as I presume I'll have to reload everything back onto the new handset, manually, from scratch.
Or do the Sony service centres have some way of cloning your phone's setup onto a replacement handset?
My one isn't suffering this in the same way as everyone else, it appears. Whenever I open a new browser window, the area of the screen thats normally white flashes yellow, as if it's being refreshed, then returns to white. Is this the same symptom?

@heavensenttom - Well, that's not the symptom that I'm seeing. I see that the bottom (in portrait mode) of my screen takes a yellow tint on fairly frequent occasions. It is quite faint, but annoying nonetheless. It is really only noticable when displaying a white background.

Just received my new Xperia S from Sony today. Haven't had a play of it yet to see if it has the yellow tint/yellow spot. Fingers crossed it will be fine. Will report back when I have more news.

Hi Zafonic. Any update on this? Also, how long did it take to receive your new hanset, after you sent your original?
I've just booked mine in for the yellow screen issue as well, so will probably send it on Thursday. Hope it doesn't take too long!
BTW, was your new handset exactly the same as your old in terms of locked, branding, bootloader unlockability?

Sorry I didnt get back sooner. Had the phone for only 3 days and after the third day the yellow tint appeared once the phone reached 42 degrees Celsius and above. Have the yellow spot bottom centre of display. It took 12 days from the day they received it till the day I received my replacement, though with the good Friday and bank holiday Monday chances are I would have had it sooner. They replaced it with a sim free handset, just the same as the one I sent to them.

Sent my phone to the repair centre on Monday 30th April. Phoned them today to see how it was progressing, and I gather that they are waiting for components - i.e. they will be fitting a replacement screen rather than replacing the entire handset. They expect the component to arrive early next week (notwithstanding the bank holiday).
I'm going through cold turkey without my phone :-(

I phoned them yesterday and spoke to a woman. She said they are awaiting parts and are expected to arrive end of next week. I hope this is the case and there are no further delays waiting for components.

After chasing a couple of times last week, was finally told that the replacement display should arrive in stock by midday (last) Friday, and the phone should be ready for return to me Saturday or today. However, checked online again today and the status is STILL "Awaiting component". Phoned to check this out, and the C/S lady at the repairers was a mystified as me about this. She is chasing and will let me know what is going on later today or tomorrow.
I'm seriously wishing I'd not bothered sending this in for repair. Actually, no, I'm seriously wishing that I had not bought a Sony. I have previously avoided Sony like the plague after hearing reports of poor quality and C/S, but finally decided to give them the benefit of the doubt - more fool me.

Hi Fishyweb,
I called them this morning, and the lady i spoke to said that the conponent would be arriving today at some point. I sure hope so, otherwise i will be on the phone to Sony Customer Services to see if they themselves will send me out a replacement instead. They (service centre) will have had my phone 3 weeks tommorrow. This is just not good enough at the end of the day.
I had read on another forum that under the 'goods of sales act' that Sony are not responsible for replacing you with a new handset, and that you should take the matter up with the retailer you purchased the phone from. If this is to be correct, this is what i will do last as i really feel the need to vent my frustration out on Sony.
I removed my screen protector on my sxs as an experiment and my yellow tint has vanished? It was very notable before try it for yourself because every sxs comes with a screen protector already on

Thanks, but my specific problem wasn't the general yellow tint issue, but blotches near the bottom and sides of the display. Pretty similar to those at shown at Some Xperia S users complaining of yellow tint display issue | Xperia Blog . I'm pretty sure those are not caused by a screen protector.

I've finally reached the end of my teather. I phoned the repair centre again this morning, to be informed that the parts for the repair did arrive from Sony on Friday, but - guess what - they were all found to be faulty! They have no idea when they will receive any further supplies, and they will obviously not know whether further supplies will also be faulty when they do receive them.
I've requested that they return my phone to me unrepaired, as I cannot afford to be without it any longer. It's been 2 1/2 weeks already. I am now taking this ridiculous situation up with Sony directly.
I really wish I'd followed my instincts and paid attention to the stories I've previously heard about Sony's inferior quality and poor customer services. I should have bought another HTC.

I was told the same thing yesterday about the parts being faulty. When I called Sony Customer Services shortly after, I spoke to a Stephanie. She said she would look into what I told her about the components being faulty and said she would call me back. When I heard back from her she told me I don't why you was told that, but they are still awaiting parts let alone them being faulty. I asked her I would like to speak to someone in charge at Sony. He called me late afternoon yesterday, and said he will see what he can do for me...said if he can he will try and get me a replacement.
If nothing materialises from that I will seek advice from the citizen advice bureau as I have had enough.
The Sony Xperia S doesn’t differ too much from the Ion: it features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12MP Exmor R camera sensor, and a 720p display, only here it is 4.3-inches in size. If it looks familiar, it’s because we have seen this... Read More
