Default How to return to pure V4 or V6 Verizon stock with only CWM recovery

DO NOT USE THIS NANDROID IF YOU TOOK THE V7 (ICS) UPDATE. YOU WILL HAVE NO DATA CONNECTION. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Ok, so because this has been asked for a few times, and I had spare time, here is how to return to pure, fresh out of the box, V4 or V6 firmware stock using just a few files and CWM Recovery. Now this will have no root, no CWM Recovery, no anything that you may have put on here once you are done.

First:

Make sure you have CWM Touch Recovery installed. The first one that was released (non-touch based) does not handle nandroid backups correctly.

Then grab these files based on which version you want to restore and follow the corresponding instructions.

DO NOT MIX AND MATCH VERSIONS. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE OTA UPDATES PROPERLY IF YOU MIX V6 NANDROID WITH V4 RECOVERY RESTORER

V4:

http://androidfiles.massivefilehost.com/v4_stock/stock_recovery_restorer.zip

http://androidfiles.massivefilehost.com/v4_stock/v4_stock.zip

Extract the contents of v4_stock.zip to the sd card of your phone so that the directory inside of your zip is at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/v4_stock/ . If you do it wrong and put it at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/v4_stock/v4_stock/ it will not work.

Copy stock_recovery_restorer.zip to the base directory of your sdcard so the end result should be /sdcard/stock_recovery_restorer.zip

Next :

Now boot into recovery.

Make one final nandroid backup if you are so inclined.

Now at the root menu of CWM Recovery choose wipe data/factory reset , then yes.

Then go into advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache -> yes
and also advanced -> Wipe Battery Stats -> yes

Now go into backup and restore -> restore -> v4_stock

If it goes correctly, proceed to the next step. If it fails, you placed the files incorrectly. Reboot your phone and fix where you extracted v4_stock.zip to.

If all went well, go to install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> stock_recovery_restorer.zip -> yes.

V6:

http://androidfiles.massivefilehost.com/v6_stock_noroot/stock_recovery_restorer_v6.zip

http://androidfiles.massivefilehost.com/v6_stock_noroot/v6_stock_noroot.zip

Extract the contents of v6_stock_noroot.zip to the sd card of your phone so that the directory inside of your zip is at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/v6_stock_noroot/ . If you do it wrong and put it at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/v6_stock_noroot/v6_stock_noroot/ it will not work.

Copy stock_recovery_restorer.zip to the base directory of your sdcard so the end result should be /sdcard/stock_recovery_restorer_v6.zip

Now go into backup and restore -> restore -> v6_stock_noroot

If it goes correctly, proceed to the next step. If it fails, you placed the files incorrectly. Reboot your phone and fix where you extracted v6_stock_noroot.zip to.

If all went well, go to install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> stock_recovery_restorer_v6.zip -> yes.

Final for both:

You are now back at pure stock with no data. Reboot your phone and it will be like nothing was every installed.

As always, let me know if you run into any issues not covered in the instructions.

The Stock Recovery you provided only installs the non-touch version of CWM.

New file uploaded with hopefully the correct recovery image. Let me know if you still have issues. There shouldn't be, but at this point anything seems possible. I may have to add a partition zero command if it doesn't work correctly this time.

Seems to work fine now. Boots into recovery and shows the little Android with an arrow coming out of the box then reboots again. I'd assume this is normal.

Man! this method is much easier than the other one for sure. It's good to know that I can flash back to stock with a simple process. Thank you so much for this Neph!

MD5 mismatch error. Downloading again.

I fail at reading instruction. I did this: /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/v4_stock/v4_stock/
Seems to be working.

Yeah, this all works as advertised. If you can follow instructions, which I did. Eventually.

It took me about an hour to go from rooted v4, to stock v4, to updated v6. But that's MY fault, not the fault of the guide or software.

Took me about a hour as well. I couldn't get the drivers to install so I just went to an area were I got 4g and downloaded the update over the network. When I went to root the correct driver.exe was in that folder. So, they finally installed the spectrum correctly.

Currently on stock V6, Rooted and Touch CWM.

Just finished.. Worked BEAUTIFULLY! Just a couple of things for people to be aware of:
-When you restore v4_stock, the first step takes a little while, it probably isnt frozen
-Some people may not have the /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/v4_stock/ so just create the directory, and it should work great.
-I also had a problem with the phone freezing during the activation step. Turned out the problem was either the SIM card wasnt inserted correctly, or the back of the case needed to be on for whatever reason.

I can't understand why this would have happened. I would try to run the process again. Maybe neph can shed some light on the situation but for me I think you must have done something wrong. Double and triple check everything and make sure you are following the instructions exactly. I have personally used this method at least 4 times and have never had one single issue.

Sounds like something didn't fully restore. V6 would mean that your kernel updated, but 2.3.5 would mean the framework files did not. Honestly, at this point thou, you're probably better of just flashing the V6 nandroid then trying to downgrade back to V4 just to go up to V6. Plus, the V6 nandroid is pre-rooted.

Ok, so question. Apparently last night my phone tried to get the OTA update overnight. I am rooted running BrokenOut 2.0. So, the update didn't work (presumably because rooted, yes?) and so I have been working on it all morning. I have a stock nandroid on my sdcard. So, I thought I would Flash the stock nandroid I have, get the update, then Flash my BrokenOut2.0 nandroid I have. Will this work? Somehow after reading all this I feel like I am overlooking something.

Broken out nor eclipse are currently based off v6 so flashing to them would most likely cause some problems. At the least you would just be back where you started. So either get the update or stay on broken out and wait for Mt to release an update based off of v6

Default Returning to V4 Stock Questions

First:

Make sure you have CWM Touch Recovery installed. The first one that was released (non-touch based) does not handle nandroid backups correctly.

Then grab these files

http://androidfiles.massivefilehost.com/v4_stock/stock_recovery_restorer.zip

http://androidfiles.massivefilehost.com/v4_stock/v4_stock.zip

You are now back at pure stock with no data. Reboot your phone and it will be like nothing was every installed.

As always, let me know if you run into any issues not covered in the instructions.
Neph,
I am considering the return to V4 stock option, but have 2 questions (to be safe).

1. Backup? are you talking about using TB, Nandroid or CWM. Since I have CWM installed, do I still have the Nandroid option, if so and that is what I need to do, how do I access it?
2. How can I tell if I have CWM Touch Recovery installed or just the regular CWM.
Sorry for the basic questions, but I would like to get it right the 1st time.

Regards,
PepperHead

Most people do a backup in CWM to a nandroid file. The nice thing about this is the ability to restore it with CWM and also many programs like romtoolbox can restore apps and data directly from a nandroid backup.

As for question two, if you touch the screen and it responds, then you have the touch version.

Edit : as for accessing your nandroid options, just go into "backup/restore" then backup. The rest is automated.

I found the CWM Touch restored V4_stock okay but failed to install zip on stock_recovery_restorer.zip with this message: E:signature verification failed.

I used AllinOne to restore the stock recovery and I ended up with the non-touch CWM which installed the zip stock_recovery_restorer.zip without problems.

okay call me dense but where can i get CMW Recovery? I'm rooted and have ROM manger installed, but when i try and do a ROM flash it tells me to install CWM Recovery first or upgrade to premium.

I looked at the nitro instructions, but i'm a bit scared of messing up my phone, and not have anyone around that can help me fix it.

Don't use ROM Manager and definitely don't use Nitro ROMS... You can use the The All In One rooting method to install CWM

It worked like a charm! I had rooted my Spectrum with the all-in-one package and I used the recovery option from the power button menu. The whole process took no more than five minutes. Thank you! Unfortunately, I am returning my Spectrum today to Amazon....at the end, I made the decision to go with the Maxx.... Thanks everyone for the support!

Then grab it off of the spectrum android mirror or do the manual instructions listed in the CWM Touch thread.

Wanted to a put a thanks in here for this tool.

I just rolled my phone back to stock, been suffering through reboots all day today(phone lost 50% power in an hour through rebooting). So, I though I'd go back to stock and check how it does there, and I can take it back if it still does the same thing stock.

just as a fyi for anyone who wants they can also use the v6 nandroid neph made to return to the most recent software update and still be on stock. here is the link: V6 stock nandroid - pre-rooted
the thread got buried on the 2ND page so most people probly won't see it unless they know what to look for.

I've also edited the first post to include the non-rooted V6 nandroid that will be needed to take the ICS update. I've had the files hosted for a while, but work has been keeping me from doing the write up.

Nice, I was curious as to whether the rooted nan. would be able to take the ICS update whenever it is pushed. Like usual good job Neph!

EDIT: Just ran it, everything is good to go now, back to stock

V6 is the most recent version of software we have. I'd use that...but honestly there's not much difference between v6 and v4. When the ICS update comes is released it'd be easier to update from v6 as opposed to v4 because if you used v4, you'd need to update twice; once to v6 and then to ICS.

I assumed that was the case, but I wanted to be sure before I did anything. Will the spectrum be getting ICS?

My Spectrum is royally messed up with microphone issue mentioned elsewhere. Trying to go back to stock to get replacement.

Followed directions.. keep getting "MD5 mismatch"

Should be noted when you extract by default it makes to v6 root folders and you get the sub folder issue. I have fixed that issue, still getting error
