Default CWM issues

I recently rooted my spec and immediately made an nandroid. I tried to backup to this nandroid and cwm says there was an error restoring /system and quits. I made another nandroid and tried again. Same result. I changed the backup type to .tar and tried again. Same result. Any help? I am now unrooted again because of fear of ruining my only smartphone. I wouldnt want to go back to my *gasp* samsung reality. Any help is appreciated. If only ICS would come already...

If you're using the stock memory card that came with the phone, replace it. I have had nothing but issues with the cheap one that came with it. Even my OG Droid hates using it.

Yep. LG includes super cheap memory cards usually. Back on my ally it came with a 4GB micro sdcard.... Except it was cheap and had ~1gb of usable space. VZW swapped it out because i was there in the store when i noticed it. Same day i purchased the phone.

Anyway..... ditch that cheap micro sd that came with it.

I got a 16 gig SanDisk in there. Is that a problem?

Shouldn't be, but that does leave us at square 1 for finding out why you are having backup/restore issues. When you have it set on .tar backups, what is the exact error it provides you when it fails to restore (if you manage to see it). If you can't see the error, can you go into the clockworkmod directory and find your backup and see if the MD5 hash for each file matches what is in the text file?

I opened the log within clockwork recovery. there are a bunch of failed to open /sys directories and a "Can't partition unsafe device: /dev/......" and two "cant format unknown volume"'s and then more failed to open /sys directories. this help at all or should i copy word for word?

Honestly, it sounds like you have a corrupt version of CWM. I would suggest re-installing the one from Koush's website if you are familiar with DD and ADB commands.

ClockworkMod ROM Manager - Recoveries

If not, the one by playfulgod works well, but it doesn't support .tar archiving last i checked.

Reflashing the app seemed to work but i think i may have found the problem. The sd card was running out of memory halfway through the backup causing it to abort. After erasing old backups there were no problems.

Another off-topic question: If I am in CWM, is there any way for me to access the sd card from the computer via usb?

You have full ADB access while in CWM, which if you mount /sdcard, would give you access. Other then that, no, I have not gotten the "mount as USB" option to work in any of the versions put out yet.
