Default Root for ICS leak

I'm not sure why Jcase posted the root instructions for the Spectrum, but being as he did, we may as well share it. From what the article says, this will work for the leaked version, which, if VZW does not get their act together soon, I will be jumping ship for.

[Exclusive] Here's How To Root The LG Intuition And LG Spectrum On ICS

adb shell
$ rm /data/vpnch/vpnc_starter_lock
$ ln -s /data/local.prop /data/vpnch/vpnc_starter_lock
$ exit
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device shell
$ echo ‘ro.kernel.qemu=1’ > /data/local.prop
$ exit
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device remount
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell
# chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
# chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
# rm /data/local.prop
# rm /data/vpnch/vpnc_starter_lock
# reboot

Yea, i think i'll hold until either people say that it works well or until something official comes out.

But in the article, under the LG Spectrum part, it says:
"However, this is just for the leaked ICS builds, so it's likely to get patched in the final version. If you're running one of those builds right now, however, this one's for you."

So does that mean that it's not for all Spectrum users and only for the ones that have the leaked build? Confused.

This is only for the leaked V7_05 .tot file that got released earlier this year to my understanding. I have not spoken to Jcase, so I do not know if this still works on V7_15 which is what VZW employees currently have access to.

OH sorry I'm illiterate. Studying for exams all day really messed with my head after. When I first read the title of this post, I thought it said something along the lines of how to get ICS with root... wow. Now it makes sense lol

Jcase is not sure either if it works for the V7_15 build. He posted the root because its the same on the LG Intuition, figured there's no use keeping it.

Does anyone still have the leaked ICS?
I know I do, but wasn't it bashed for rookies bricking their phones to the point it was pulled?
Not nice to bash, then revive is it?
Fixed in the final build, if ever the final build gets released.

I, for one, have the leak, but I had no use for it without root. I also had no reason to ask for root as I didn't have time to work on my Spectrum this summer. For what it's worth, even the leak was fairly stable and I had no issues running it. I'd rather see CM9 on my phone thou, then the leak, but come December, one or the other is going on it if the official ICS is not out.

A mostly nooby question: I know that a couple of experts here were able to run ICS leak "successfully" eventually. Now that we have the root for it, wouldn't it be possible to create a ROM based on that? Or am I totally off the track?

Once cm9 is done we might be able to make it into a flash able rom I got some friends that could help with that :-)

No, the base kernel on the new LG ICS leak (7_05) and current (7_15) is locked down to the point that if it even detects that you removed some piece of stock software that it wants to always have there, it will lock up your phone and you will need to restore it via .cab/.tot file. This includes having a custom recovery on it.

Sorry to keep asking, but you mean someone has the leaked 7-15 that they have tried to work on without success?

Yes. Do we have access to it? No. Just LG/VZW employees.

Or I will have a new phone, either one.
The leaked ICS is great, I have spotty 4g here so the 3g/4g issue was not intolerable.

The ICS leak will brick your phone if not done absolutely correct. Wait for the Devs to finish building/porting a reliable working ICS for us.

The leak is buggy, so why would anyone want to flash it? I could see it used as a source for pieces for ICS roms, tho.

I've heard this mentioned, but I never ran it. I put it on my phone by extracting the files from the .tar archive and fixing things up so that my bootloader remains unlocked (no locked bootloader will ever touch my phone). But it didn't like that I don't have a sim card and I didn't try to bypass that screen.

Anyway, what is buggy about it? I'm interested because I did exactly that -- I used quite a few libraries and apps from the leak to build cm9.

thats what i want to know too, the only thing that people said that was buggy is that there was no 4g. and it was very hard to go back to gingerbread. thats it. other than that it was a stable leak

TDM, when we are talking about the leak, we mean V7_05 that went out into the wild as a .tot file. It was buggy in that they hadn't worked out some graphics drivers issues, and if you didn't flash it right, you had a brick on your hands. The V7_15 archive that was shared with you is extremely stable and is the file that has been in internal testing for 3 months.

Re: v7-15 I don't know where they got their info, but someone over on the LG forums just posted that Verizon said no to the latest LG ICS build and told them to try again...

Might be worth monitoring for a different build number on the ftp site...

I'll an eye on the file daily. When a new build goes up, the old one goes down. I can't say I'm surprised thou given how many hacks and errors get thrown when booting this thing (v7_05 at least). It almost feels like they half *** ported the Nitro ICS again and tried to get it working on the spec.

Default Root for Official ICS V7 - Works!!

I just applied the V7 update and used the ADB shell commands for the INTUTITION and then used the ALL in One Spectrum too to "Root & CWM Recovery" so I unlocked the Bootloader with ADB then pushed the Expolit like normal.. It works No BS! I will post exact instructions for those needed help! or you can e-mail me and I will show you screenshots and instrctions so you can root your new ICS!! wyarsp9@natlcollege.edu

Well I was going to root but I need that SU file it says you need to root. I go to that link on the how to root page for the SU file and it takes me to some site that is famous for uploading spyware to your pc. I click on the download for the file which takes me to another site to another link and I say download that and it appears to want me to download a download manager to get the file. Screw that. Can someone upload that file to dropbox or or some decent none malicious download site.

Why do people use these garbage spyware, trogan, worm infested upload sites.

Please make a guide. I would love to be able to do exactly what you did. Would be awesome to have the bootloader unlocked with CWM. Thanks

The intutition root is the same exploit as the ICS Specturm one, I wrote it.

It's identical.

It's identical.

So I can use the spec root method from your page to get root? Is it worth also installing CWM? or no?

Ditto, especially with the all in one tool. It has no ability to unlock the bootloader, because the phone wasn't locked and it's not a program function.

Root instructions are in the original post of this thread. They should apply to all verizon LG devices running ICS, and newer ICS non verizon ones.

Cool thanks. How would one then install CWM? or are you not able to? Sorry for the noobness, I never rooted an LG device..

Is there waiting after lines of code like with the original post and nom-Spectrum instructions? The op makes it look like we enter all those commands with no reboots, so I wanted to confirm before I did it.

Having a problem with the root method and really don't know enough about what I'm looking at to know what this means or how to fix it.

C:\sdk-tools>adb shell
shell@android:/ $ rm data/vpnch/vpnc_starter_lock
rm data/vpnch/vpnc_starter_lock
shell@android:/ $ In -s /data/local.prop /data/vpnch/vpnc_starter_lock
In -s /data/local.prop /data/vnpch/vpnc_starter_lock
/system/bin/sh: In: not found
127|shell@android:/ $ exit
exit
C:\sdk-tools>adb reboot
C:\sdk-tools>adb wait-for-device shell
@android:/ $ echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop
echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop
/system/bin/sh: cannot create /data/local.prop: Permission denied
1|shell@android:/ $

Although the permission denied is clearly an issue, seems that the:
/system/bin/sh: In: not found
is the real issue at hand. Can anyone help me with this?

can someone post the SU file on a proper host site. I'm not installing a download manager from a company I've never heard of just to get a little file.

I use mirror creator all the time. It's a file posting aggregator that allows you to choose the file sharing sites you want a file to be posted on. When you click the link, it gives you 10 file sharing options, for various companies. Isn't mediafire there? Surely, you know of it, uploaded or rapidshare...
