False alarm

I got back from a road test and now know that it's doing radio triangulation, not GPS based. That's why it was getting a lock every 30 seconds.

It still reports as GPS being off, but it gets a lock. Is anyone else getting a lock like that, or am I on the correct path?
When I was running this earlier today I never got any good lock using GPS test.

I'd be wary of using Google maps as a baseline. It may be getting that position based on cell/data/WiFi position perhaps? Not that I don't think you've thought of that, just pointing it out.

A gps test app will tell you the number of visible satellites as well as how many you're actually tracking. To get a reliable fix you need to track at least 3 SATs about 5 should give you an accurate fix. The app i use is called gps status has a pic of a old sat dish for an icon.

Most of these types of apps should be using the nmea strings from the gps receiver which rules out any other sources for the position.

*Edit*
Here's a link from the CM10/AOKP41 thread with screen shots of someone using the app. [ROM] Quattrimus JB (CM10, AOKP41) for an example of what i meant.

Everyone should have it working on cm10 tdm changed the libs. CM10.1 doesn't have gps for anyone no matter what your GPS used to do or what ROM you came from is what he was saying.

Some, but most were merges and language updates. No major fixes... Then again, I dot that there are many bugs.

I will say it doesn't deep sleep like aokp does. Even in wifi, after 3 hours of no use, I'm down 10%. I'll probably wait for the new aokp to get sorted.

Installed the official cm 0216 nightly on my nitro and verified that gps works. That means I should be able to get it working on the spectrum soon.

Hey now! I'll have you know that ICS is still the best for gaming on the Spectrum. That being said, I'm working on 4.1.2 and 4.2.x kernels.

I'm aware of this, but for those of us who have become adult men and women we prefer elegance over gaming ;]

Which reminds me...has anyone done any gaming on cm10.1 yet? I haven't seen anyone complain about reboots at all on cm10.1 so I was curious if the reboot issue is still a problem on cm10.1 while gaming.

As I stated in a previous post, I've been running cm10.1 since the day (basically the hour) it was released and I haven't experienced a single reboot. But I also have done no gaming.

I'm not a serious gamer but I multi-task and had issues with lock ups and reboots on CM10, which I have not had on CM10.1. My husband also has a few games that would reboot on CM10 which don't on CM10.1.

Awesome news. I'm stoked to see aokp with 4.2. The drop downs in cm10.1 are rad.. I hope aokp incorporated them.

They are there. I believe they are from aosp. This was one reason for the delay in getting 4.2 going... conflicts between the cm/aokp toggles and the aosp quick settings.

Found the issue with gps on i_atnt (p930). Not sure yet if this will fix i_vzw (VS920). We'll see when the build gets done...

Nailed it.

Will post beta4 shortly with working GPS.

And yes, this means we're back on track for official CM support.

2 little side notes. on aokp 41 the lock screen had unlock( right) camera( left) and Google(up). on cm10.1 the lock screen only had lock at the bottom. if you swipe to the right toward the top of the screen it'll take you to the camera. swipe left it'll take you to an option for a short cut. also in phone dialer, I double tapped and the screen zoomed in on the numbers.... I'm loving this, can't wait for beta 4 . thanks tdm and everyone!

You can set 4 quick launch items from the swype/ unlock circle also.

I knew about the quick launches, I didn't know about the swiping at the top of the screen.

OMG! I can finally use CM10.1! My main occupation is driving, and need my phone's GPS for work, reason I stayed on CM10 for so long.

I will update my thread with a CM10.1 and AOKP42 Pdroid patch when I get off work tonight.

Making some more changes right now to try to fix a few things, aokp screen blanking among them. Hopefully it all builds and works... fingers crossed.

Also started a conversation with the AOKP team about official support for both P930 and VS920. MarcLandis seemed pretty cordial but pointed me to RomanBB for further info.

fyi...

https://plus.google.com/+CyanogenMod/posts/iWRWc4bdXJb

This should not be in beta4 (because the code is already checked out and building). But will be in all builds after beta4. No idea if AOKP plans to follow suit or not.

lol.

It takes quite a while to do two full builds and then test four combinations .. especially in between other work. :P
