Three of us in my family want to go but ouch! We're looking at fan appreciation night and I heard one night they'll be giving out Stanley Cup replica rings. Probably cheesy but might be cool. Are you near Staples?

not too far about 20 min or so depending on traffic as it always is in LA. the ring would be cool. they are going to be giving away replica banners on opening night.....should be fun.
At least the Sabres bring a playoff atmosphere to western ny, unlike the pathetic bills(no playoffs in 13 years). Even if they don't have a realistic chance this year, it's something.

yeah you guys definitely have some great players on your team. it seems a few years back that they were primed to make a run for the cup. i love your goaltender in ryan miller. he was great in the olympics.

Had my annual hockey pool draft this past weekend. The turnout was pretty poor. About 1/3 of the regulars just wasn't into it this year due to the lockout.

yeah this year we usually have 16 in our fantasy league, but this year it has dwindled down to 10.

still i can't say that Kings are the worst Wings' enemy))) 'Hawks and Canucks in the west, Leafs and Hubs in the east. May be people go to California not only for hockey, but for hot Californian sun as well.
BTW, last year supported Kings after Wings got knocked out

yeah i know that there are a lot of transplants from detroit living here in LA. it is just weird, where all season long you see kings fans fill Staples, then the wings come in to town and half of Staples is fill with red and white. it is just crazy. i'm not saying it is a rivalry at all. i just have never seen anything like that in any sport...........now that we won the cup, i wonder if there will be a shift in attendance? i doubt it LOL

I really like this realignment. Getting the teams in a division that is mostly in the same time zone is great, especially for the playoffs. It just sucks when you're in the Pacific time zone and have to play a team 2 or 3 time zones away for 2 weeks. I hate coming home and finding the game almost half over.
I would like them to bring back the divisional names they used in the 80's (Adams, Norris, Patrick and Smythe). I don't see that happening because it would simply confuse too many newer fans who don't know what they mean. I was confused for a while, too when I was young and learning about the NHL back in the 80's.

I'm thinking the NHL would be way better if the regular season was only 48 games every year, plus having the season compressed so games are played every other night. It's like a full season of playoff hockey.
Oh, go Bruins, even though they are struggling of late.

yes i also agree with the re-alignment, but not with keep this few of games played. for me this season is an asterisk season. it should not count really, unless of course the Kings win the cup again.....LOL
i like the fact that the kings also do not have to travel cross country as much as well. it should be fun next year with a FULL season under way with a proper training camp and such.

So try to sell that to half the league that will not see Crosby, Stamkos, Tavares, Datsyuk, in their building unless both teams make it to the Stanley Cup finals.

Yeah, that part sucks. I guess what I really like is the frequency of games and the intensity teams are playing with in the shortened season.

it definitely does add more drama as now every game is important. in the west there is 5-6 teams separated by a couple of points........i'm just glad that the hawks are finely coming back down to earth. now i just need the ducks to start loosing some games as well....LOL

you are right the "Blues are going to get destroyed tonight" by my Kings!!!!!!!
and i actually like the Penguins to some degree in that i think that sidney crosby is great for the sport. we need a figure like a Kobe Bryant or Micheal Jordan. i think he is the face of the nhl right now.

With the ownership situation in Phoenix, there is a possibility that they may end up relocating. There may be an announcement about that before the playoffs. If Phoenix relocates, it would throw a wrinkle in the realignment.

it sure would depending on where they go. i hope they change hands but stay in phoenix. but either way it would great for their payers to not have any more distractions so that they can focus on hockey. they have a young team and they will only get better.

I don't think that NHL would propose a new division plan without being sure that Coyotes stay where they are. And what is more, I think that two more teams can be expected in the NHL in the nearest future (to make the number of teams in both conferences equal).

yeah it would make sense to expand to make it equal. i think that is what they had in mind anyways. i thought it was kind of odd to balance it out like that. i have not heard of anything official yet.....only rumors.

A while ago, there was talk about an NHL franchise in Kansas. I believe they have a fairly new building that can accomodate an NHL team. One in Seattle would be nice as well. Not sure about their arena situation.
As for Quebec City, not sure about their arena situation. When the realignment was first proprosed, there was speculation that one of the Florida teams is a prime candidate to move to Quebec. I think people speculated that because the Florida teams are in the same division as the teams way in the northeast.
I think everyone wants all divisions to have the same number of teams. Sometimes the math doesn't work out that way. Funny thing to me is that MLB has numbers that work out, but not all divisions and leagues have the same number of teams.

i think boston had to do something after what the penguins did. i mean they got morrow and iginla. jagr will only help boston out. i'm just glad he is out of the west now. it is gonna be fun to see how the playoffs pans out.
Yeah, the Pens really cleaned up in trades, at least for what Boston really needs. If he helps on powerplay it will be a huge benefit to Boston as they suck and have for the last few years, offensively anyway.

It's a great asset for Bruins team before the playoffs, that's for sure. Though I expected to see someone less expensive as they need to fill their 3rd line.

He's back playing with his old teammate from Ottawa, Chara. Redden's stock has really fallen since Ottawa chose to keep Redden over Chara. I thought they should have kept Chara at the time.

Enjoy him. As a Blues fan, he's been solid all year. Not flashy or spectacular, but a good fit for that team. Will play on the 3rd pairing and solidify their D. With the addition of J-Bo and Leonard, Redden was expendable.
