Default US Cellular root for GS3

Just got my GS3 today and was hoping to root it,
but I don't see anything on rooting with this carrier...

Is there any information on this I'm missing?

It looks like we're missing a section then. I'll let the mods know.

In the meantime, the rooting procedure for other cdma SG3 like Verizon or Sprint might work, but I'm not sure.

Edit: Congrats on the new phone! . I'm hoping to buy a SG3 int'l version in Pebble Blue on Monday!

Thanks for the insight.

Not sure how gutsy I'm feeling about performing a "sketchy" root after what happened with my Proclaim.
Granted-- That exact issue wouldn't seem possible in this case,
but I don't wanna completely ruin my new phone with an improper kernal.

I certainly will not be happy with a non-rooted GS3, though. lol
What with that $50 off deal at Radioshack,
and knowing I could root an AT&T or Sprint GS3,
maybe I should back out of my contract with US Cellular before it's too late (14 days and counting...).

Only problem is that I went with US Cellular because the Carrier Coverage app shows they have the best signal in my imediate area. Not that the others have none, but less bars 'n all... Not even sure if others even have 4G around me, either...

Guess I'll keep looking for a successful root with a US Cellular GS3.

Slightly off-topic:
Do AT&T or Sprint always use GSM phones...?
So I could unlock and change carriers later down the road... right?

EDIT:
I have found a discussion (on the XDA forums) where a fellow said he used the Sprint method to root his US Cellular Galaxy S3, and it worked great. Perhaps it won't be too "sketchy" after all.

So you rooted your GS3 from US Cellular with model number SCH-R530U?

Can you provide the link to where you did this. Thanks

You can use the same method to root by flashing CWM to start.
The method using a Sprint ROM is not for USCC, though.

Anyway--
Rooted my USCC GS3 using the Sprint guide here.
Just hoping TriangleAway supports the US Cellular models someday.

AT&T and T-Mobile are the only GSM carriers in the US. With AT&T, you could unlock and use it with an international carrier, but T-Mobile uses weird frequencies for data so unlocking their phone wouldn't help if you wanted to take that phone to Europe or Asia and use 3G/4G.

Sprint is CDMA.[/OFFTOPIC]

Where you able to find a ROM that would work for USCC?

Looking to root too, so the Sprint root works fine? RootzWiki has got US Cell dev link going for those interested.

Hi guys!

It seems all is well for us US Cellular GS3 owners now.
I've found confirmed methods for rooting and reseting the flash counter for the R530U.

I just wish they'd finally give USCC some love here on Phandroid.
Where's our "All Things Root" section...?

Rooting Without Tripping Flash Counter
How to Root Without Tripping The Flash Counter - Galaxy S III Guides/Tutorials - TeamUSCellular

Reseting Flash Counter
[HOWTO] [ROOT] Reset Flash Counter - Galaxy S III Guides/Tutorials - TeamUSCellular

Hope other US Cellular Galaxy S3 owners can find this here... ;P

Nudge, nudge, wink wink
Would it be possible to get an all things root forum for the US Cellular GS3?

If there's enough names who knows

So since they have not made a sub category for us yet does that mean they would rather us frequent other forums?

this thread needs to be moved as it has nothing to do with the sprint variant. no offense meant to the posters, just stating a fact is all...

jerofld? any thoughts on making a USC feed that doesnt intertwine with the already barren desert of the sprint EGS3? or at least making a subforum since the root methods are the exact same? there are pros and cons both ways... your call senor moderator

Wondering if you all could help me out with unlocking my US Cellular S3. I would like to unlock it to use with T-mobile or ATT or even straight talk. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Am considering getting a USCC Galaxy S3. From the above threads, I can unlock it but my hope is to use it in Vietnam & Laos. Will this work or is there a different phone that would work better for a traveler to SE Asia? For coverage where I live USCC is by far the best so would like to stay with them, plus I do not have to sign a contract. Thanks for your help!
