Default Sprint Nexus Support

Okay so as many of you know, the Sprint Gnex is not supported by AOSP. I think we should post on their facebook and twitter about the issue like we did when HTC started locking down bootloaders. I will post examples of what I put as well as links to their facebook and twitter.

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sprint

Twitter: https://twitter.com/sprint

Example of what I posted on Facebook.

I think this is a great idea but I think the more appropriate statement is that it's not *currently* supported by AOSP.

It's my opinion that it will be eventually. In any case, like I mentioned before, great idea!

Yeah I believe it will eventually, but from what I read there is nothing in the plans for it right now. I'm just hoping that we can put it in their mind that people buy Nexus devices because they are the Google device the first to get updates. If Google can't update it they shouldn't market it as a Nexus. I'm not mad and I'm not going to switch carriers because of this but I don't like being lied to with advertisement.

So the only way to get updates on the Nexus from Sprint is to root and flash a port? This is lame. Maybe I'm misunderstanding? What is the point of a nexus device then? ugh.

I'm not going to panic just yet. I just got my Galaxy Nexus more than 2 weeks ago and I'm loving the stock ICS. I'm sure we will see JB by Aug at least lol. If not then I'll panic.

I don't do twitter or Facebook, can I still post without an account? Also, when I get home, I will create a thread on sprint forums (if one is not already created) to do the same. I suggest everyone add their opinion there as well. Believe it or not sprint pays attention to posts there.

Go read about the Verizon Nexus getting 4.0.4. It took Verizon months to push it out. If a phone has AOSP support it means google completely builds the source for it and releases it. I think the carrier still has to approve it but if the source is released, developers can take it and mod it. If it isn't released they have to take the source of a different phone, build it for the phone they are developing for, make sure it works and then mod it. It just adds a couple of steps and can leave some things that are proprietary to the carrier not working such as MMS. This is what I've gathered from various things and I may be wrong about it.

If you don't have a twitter or facebook you can't post unfortunately, good idea about posting on Sprint forums.

I posted that almost verbatim on Sprints page and it was deleted in seconds. I ended up posting it as a reply to some of their comments and it looks like it is still there.

I am going to hit this up in the next couple of days. I guess the good news is that with jb source it's very easy to get pretty much everything up and running on the gnex. The binaries not being released is a little concerning though. I need to Google it later to read up on it to see what exactly that means.

I'm not too concerned about this. As long as you're unlocked and rooted you're good to go.

I think it mostly has to do with how the phone communicates with the network. This would be a problem because of stuff like MMS, LTE, and various other things. Kinda like how the Evo didn't have Wimax on AOSP ROMs until someone figured out how to kang it in. No matter what we are going to get awesome builds, I think this might slow them down a bit though.

DISCLAIMER: I may be completely wrong though

I don't think it will because we have awesome Devs because it appears my LTE radios are intact. I was just saying it might take the devs slightly longer.

Take comfort in knowing that LTE is working fine on the JB port we have.

Allegedly 3g is improved as well. Seems about the same for me at home and work though.

No reason really. One week I thought the LTE was the way to go...then the S3....now back to the Gnex. Basically the S3 gets me a better camera, an extra gig of ram, and a slightly faster processor.

By the way, how's this for Gnex support....on a new single or family line it's a freaking PENNY on amazon wireless. Holy crap. I wish I was just now coming to Sprint.

That's a steal. What's the price for contract renew? Mine was $99 a few weeks back. I would imagine the s3 will drive it down.
