Default Anyone wanna help me root & rom? $10.00 Pay-Pal for an IM walkthrough

I know this might sound lame to some of you folks, but I am too inexperienced to trust myself to do this alone and I have no real life friends who are into electronics. I have tried this on my Mac & my wife's PC using the walkthroughs with no success. I want to root my phone, remove a few preloaded apps and then install Fresh Rom. I would also like to know how to upgrade the rom for updates. I can Pay $10.00 for the lesson & walkthrough through Pay-Pal after the lesson.

Contact me if interested.

Thanks

Don't know if you've already seen this, but here is the easiest walk through i've ever seen. The Fresh 1.0 ROM is great as well.

Good luck! Its totally worth it!

I just flashed back to the .7 with the patch and that seems the fastest. You lose the clear lock screen, but the speed is improved.

I hit a snag. Running step 6, I run the sdk.exe and i get this message : Failed to fetch URL https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml, reason: HTTPS SSL error. You might want to force download through HTTP in the settings.

This is keeping me from selecting 32/64 drivers.

Any suggestions?

Did you download the recovery image and put it into the SDK/Tools directory?

Yes. I have double checked and I have even replaced it twice to make sure it was in there. Is there another recovery image to try and use? I was looking on theunlockr.com and they mentioned something about putting it on the sd card? Again, I am new to this. I feel like a smacktard not being able to do this with so many step by step instructions ...

Thanks

I would try that. Copy it to the SD card again then try the flashrec.

You won't be able to flashrec unless you have it copied to your SDcard. That is where you are failing on step 9.

You use the cmd line to push the recovery image to the sdcard, then you flashrec the image so it becomes your "Recovery Image".

So just mount the phone, drag the flashrec to the sd card and then start step 9 again?

Don't drag it, use the push cmd from the console to push it to the sd card pretty sure you'll need to do it that way as i've never heard of someone just draggin it.

That is where my problem is right now. It is not allowing me to do so. Dumb question, on the first command, at the end, should it say sdcard or something different?

1: “adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img /sdcard”

I took that straight from the directions in step 9.

So I found this:How To: Flash a New Recovery Image (If You Are Already Rooted) | The Unlockr

On this method, they drag it over, then use terminal to run the recovery. Is this right? Can I do this instead? I can not get step 9 to work. I know I am driving folks crazy with post, but I need some help.

Thanks

ok, when i enter that command, this is what i get: cannot stat 'adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img: no such file or directory.

I have checked a million times. The recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img is in the tools folder under sdk. I have downloaded it and replaced it at least 10 times.

THe error message you get only happens if the file does not exist or you typed the name of it wrong.

I just confirmed this by trying it again on my phone and I typed in the wrong filename and I got the same error message as you.

The file I downloaded was not a .zip, it is an .img. I clicked on the link and saved it directly into the tools folder. Is that wrong or right?

can you verify that you are in fact at a normal command prompt like

C:\android-sdk-windows\tools and NOT at a shell commad prompt like # or $ when you type in the following adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img /sdcard

Fresh 1.0 is out.

It fixes the keyboard force close and all the .7 bugs.

Download the Fresh 1.0 and copy to SD.
Boot into recovery and apply sdcard: choose zip
Pick the fresh 1.0

Reboot
done.

Then you shouldn't do it yet, no offence. If you can't use the Google and/or read then rooting is not for you. Look around and read up on it then you will know where to start

ok another thing, I am on my work laptop and it won't load this website Android SDK | Android Developers

so I can't even get past step 1. I have all the others downloaded. Steps 2-4. Is it a small enough file that someone could email it to me or is there another site I can download it from that might actually work?

SOB, I guess I have to wait till I get back in the states to do this install. I am currently in Japan and only have my work laptop and internet which doesn't let me visit many sites and also I can't plug any usb drives into it. I have to burn everything to a disc and transfer it to my personal one.
