Default Latest Custom Roms

Keep in mind you need "root" in order to load any custom roms listed below. This is not the thread to ask how to root or get help with the rooting process. With all of that in mind here is the unofficial list in order of project start date thanks to BlueScreenofLife:

1/28/2010**UPDATE** The nice folks at XDA have a WIKI page with all ROMs, Tools, Root Utilities and more here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA%20Hero%20ROMs

Please feel free to discuss.

I tried the Eclair beta version and my track ball when I pushed it did not work and I don't think it uses apps2sd. I was reinstalling all my apps and it said I needed to free up some space to install this app. Or do you know of it being better now?

Also, Fresh-ROM just updated to 1.1. It's good stuff.

Just updating. Feel free to update OP and delete this one for house keeping, if necessary.

Add me to the list of happy Fresh 1.1 ROM users. I switched last week and am glad I did. I'm loving this thing! Feels like I got a new and even better phone!

I'm on Fresh 1.0 still. I love it and want to move to 1.1, but I'm hoping he'll release a de-fresh for it. I don't like the look of the new taskbar icons and lock screen.

Use the pre-kitchen to get rid of that taskbar and lockscreen, that's what I did

yeah I wasn't feeling the taskbar either. I changed it with the kitchen and now it is back to stock.

I have noticed that the "all programs" button at the bottom will disappear (or at least the icon on it will) after exiting an app. Just click on it and it reappears, and doesn't affect operation in any way. More of an annoyance than anything.

Fresh 1.1 is the best so far for Hero.

The lock screen and theme stuff is also top notch and will be more involved in upcoming releases. I encourage you to donate to noJ on their site Geek For Me – Android CDMA Sprint Hero for some custom lock screen work. It is really well done and it gets better with each custom set up he does.

THIS is a forum. Without a discussion it is not. If you want the site traffic to go elsewhere as you suggest that is good for not-forums.

Rooted my phone last night and decided to start with Fresh 1.1. Damn it's fast. Much quicker and smoother than before. Still has the occasional hiccup, but it's less common and usually only a few seconds rather than the 10 or so that it used to be.

I think I'll give Modaco and see how they compare later in the week. Honestly though, I have no idea what the difference is between Fresh and Modaco.

Not my intention in the beginning, Not sure why we can't simply have a place for new roms, AND THAT BE ALL.

Maybe reading a thread title means nothing to some people, but it's very difficult to find what you need when threads run away from their topic. Why are we discussing kitchen and other topics in a thread intended for "LATEST CUSTOM ROMS"??????????????????

The first post in the thread satisfies your desire for the thread. Who cares if people want to talk about the roms after wards? I re-made and deleted your thread on this because the first post was you asking for the information and to sticky it. If we'd left that one there it would have been a lot harder to decipher the information 2-3 posts down. I will keep the first post up to date whenever a new rom is made available.

So that when people root their phones they can find any of the available roms and make their own decisions. If you wanted to "discuss" the Fresh rom or any other rom, a simple search of the forums will deliver you an option of over 45 different threads where this is already happening, and with a great deal more information particular to each.

So no, I'm not suggesting you not discuss topics, I'm only wishing someone would maintain a basic sticky for the roms. In another two months, there will be so many comments here that you'll have to sift through pages and pages to find the ACTUAL Roms available. Why that when you could have one page with a clear list of what's out there?
The OP is updated with all of the ROMs. If you want a list there it is. What good is a post, sticky or not, if no discussion is allowed? It seems to me that people might find it easier to decide on a ROM if there is an updated list (the first post) and discussion of the ROMs in the posts below. I don't see what the complaint is here. There is exactly what you want in the first post in this thread and it's updated regularly by nick325i so why does it matter what happens in the posts below?

I believe you can reinstall any of the stock apps using the "Kitchen".

I would flash Modaco new rom that came out today and just remove the apps you want. Amazon mp3 is in there. Fresh is nice but he removes all the apps and i like options so i have Modaco with the espresso green theme.

I know but i just prefer Modaco rom over Fresh. Also Modaco has a kitchen coming out yippee. Also Fresh was kinda rude to Modaco about his Beta so i lost respect for him and without Modaco , the fresh rom from flipper would not exist .

you shouldn't ever have an issue with losing your contacts when flashing a ROM or flashing back to stock. I never have anyway

As for going to 2.1, you might have to flash back to stock (an easy procedure) before updating.

Do you uninstall a rom like you would do a app from the market?

no, you have to do it from the backup screen (hold menu and volume down keys at startup...i think lol). Then it you flash from zip. There's quite a few guides on XDA that are a lot better at explaining that I am

there is no "uninstalling of a rom" you would have to flash a new one on over the one you dont want

If you have Fresh 1.1 but want to try MaDaCo do you need to wipe your phone first or can you flash it over Fresh 1.1?

Flashes over fresh with no issues. Grabbed the blue esspresso theme to keep the fresh look. Runs great.

Do a nandroid backup BEFORE flashing any ROM's or making any other changes, and you can always go back to the way the phone was before you made any changes by restoring that backup. Make sure to move that nandroid backup off your SD card and onto your computer, just in case.

Again, do a nandroid backup from the recovery console before making any changes. When it's done, reboot the phone, mount the SD card, and copy the nandroid folder to your computer. Should you want to go back to that backup, simply boot into the recovery console, and restore nandroid backup.

I flashed right over my Fresh ROM 1.1 about 2 hours ago with no problems very smooth. I loaded the core MaDaCo and then added the Wave Secure & Enhanced zips. I am very thankful for all the hard work that went into making this ROM however I will be honest and say that I am ready to go back to Fresh 1.1 already. This ROM seems to hang up at times allot like the stock ROM and does not feel as fast. Maybe if I used the kitchen and deleted some of the Sprint garbage it would help however I have not paid so I cannot do that at this time. Again thanks to everyone who helped to created this ROM however my opinion is that Fresh 1.1 is still the best option right now.

When rooting the hero, does that change anything or not till you add the rom?
because i was wondering why you have to make a restore point after you root your hero..

you don't HAVE to, but it's recommended. Just in case you do something after rooting that you want undone. It's well worth making the backup, just in case you do screw something up after rooting.

Hey how about this AOSP 1.6 build? Im running it now and it's great. The only thing is that it takes a while to get it set up correctly.

why would you want to downgrade the recovery to 1.2.3???

either way easiest way i found to flash the recovery is to download terminal emulator from the market make sure the recovery img you want is on the root of your sd card

Open the Terminal program and type the following (with hitting enter at the end of each line):

su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/name-of-recovery.img

In the above text, replace name-of-recovery.img with the name of your recovery image (make sure the .img is on the end).

well, I finally did it. Rooted and flashed the Fresh 1.1 rom. All I have to say is wow my phone is speeeeedy now. I never complained about the speed of my phone with stock, it was "ok". But I don't think I could ever go back to stock now lol. I'm lovin this!
