- ADDED: Market App downloads, searches, or updates frequently fail if using WiFi...works only on 3G/EVDO/etc.
- FREQUENT reboots of HTC Sense upon exiting or switching certain applications....white screen with green "HTC" logo shows while Sense re-loads the user's last scene.
- Some HTML format e-mails not displaying in native e-mail viewer upon opening message (e.g., including messages from HTC's online help ticket tracking system!)
- Copy/Paste text functions now limited in native Mail app (e.g., long press on a message no longer shows Copy All, etc.). Also, copy text trackball function doesn't work....pointer locks up.
- Sometimes significant delay in outgoing calls showing up in call history...up to a minute delay or more...and also delays dialing numbers from the call history list (sometimes fails completely....)
- When editing a multi-day or recurring event, the calendar automatically advances the start and end dates by 1 day.
- Calendar jumps back to today's date after completing any view/edit of an event on a different date. Bothersome if one needs to enter several events on a given future date.
- Calendar "day" view doesn't update to show changes in events you just edited unless you refresh the view or step to another day and back using the arrow buttons
- If you have an event with non-alpha text (e.g., / and in the subject of the event, when you try to share vcalendar it will fail to send via email and will make a 0 byte vcs file.
- Volume buttons often no longer snooze alarms, even if the options are set for the side buttons to snooze the alarm. Must wake up, physically look for small Snooze button on screen and press it (or apparently, the trackball) to snooze an alarm. Problem is inconsistent, depending on alarm settings and how many alarms are set.
- Some Bluetooth headsets and other bluetooth capable devices no longer recognizing, pairing or streaming with Hero that worked fine with 1.5
UPDATE: The Bluetooth connectivity with the Hero under the 2.1 update is HIGHLY dependent on the car kit or Bluetooth device. For example, I was able to maintain a stable connection with a more modern Pioneer head unit in Best Buy, and it even saw the Hero's phone book automatically using the PBAP profile. However, I could not connect at all with an older Pioneer AVIC series unit. I had only partial success with other units, such as a Kenwood 6160 and some Garmin Nuvi's. On others, such as a Tom Tom with Bluetooth, I was unable to connect at all....
- Bookmark sort setting is not being saved
- Same Audio problem as 1.5 had.
- Gmail notifier won't show label even when label is selected.
- Random reboots
- The camera sometimes causes the Auto Backlight feature to be disabled and brightness gets turned up all the way and doesn't revert back to Auto Backlight.
- Facebook for HTC Sense keeping the phone awake 100% of the time in some cases (need verification)? Signing out of Facebook for HTC Sense under Accounts & Sync rumored to help.
- Phone dialer keys ALWAYS cause phone to vibrate when dialing, even if BOTH the haptic feedback and the dialing key tones are turned off in the settings menus.
- Vibration while typing decreases as one types (and sometimes it doesn't vibrate at all)?
- Landscape keyboard reported as consistently laggier than before
Issues -
- (Fixed with hard reset?) Extra HTC widgets sometimes get stuck on installing. After downloading they extra HTC widgets, sometimes they will never finish installing and can't cancel the process because the cancel button is grayed out. Clearing the HTC Data sometimes doesn't work to fix this, requiring "hard" reset.
- (Fixed with hard reset?) Artwork not being recognized by stock music player. After copying album artwork to your music whether you use iTunes or Windows Media Player, it won't show on your phone.
- "Connection Error" dialog FREQUENTLY pops up for some users (just for a second) when launching an app that requires data access or the browser, even if network and/or WiFi connectivity is already present. Dialog box immediately disappears without requiring key press or acknowledgement
- Unable to add unlisted cities in HTC Weather app 2.1.
- On-screen camera controls are now ALWAYS oriented for phone to be in landscape orientation.
- EasyTether doesn't work properly unless the default action settings for what happens when the usb is plugged in is either "charge only" or "disk drive". Then, if usb debugging isn't already on, turn it on. Easytether should work o.k. If it doesn't, uncheck "usb debugging" under the settings->application->development tab and re-check it. There was no separate "sync" option in 1.5/1.6 so I think that might having something to do with it. Probably easytether or driver related.
Quirks -
- ADDED: Touch screen selection feedback sound (if enabled) uses default volume for MEDIA instead of RINGER...weird
- Small version of HTC Digital Clock widget has date off-center when in 24-hour format (e.g., they just hid the "AM" or "PM" but left the date left-justified...looks odd).
- No setting for you to turn off a short vibrate chirp when it connects any call.
- Taking a photo can no longer be done "one-handed" -- reason is that trackball scrolling to zoom camera no longer works - *Updated* Slide finger anywhere on screen to zoom.
Undetermined and/or Unverified Issues:
- Constant synching with Exchange ActiveSync leads to very poor battery life and also repeated notifications of e-mail arrival. Much worse with "as it arrives" as a frequency.
- With sound turned on, phone will alert every few minutes after a new Exchange message arrives even though no further messages have arrived (should only alert once?)
If you'd like to report something new to the list please post it. If you found a fix for any of the above issues please post it.

Reason: New Problems Discovered....

These 2 things are game breakers in this day and age. They should not force you to take pictures in a certain way. That's just ridiculous. The trackball zoom in 1.5 works so well, why would you nix it. I hope these are just rumors and not official.
__________________ Oh yeah?! Well, my mom says I'm cool!
I think the new camera controls are better. The track ball zoom didnt respond as well as it should have in 1.5. And switching to video fron photo on 1.5 would not always register or lagged. Again I like the new controls.
Looks like a good place to ask so here it goes lol. Anyone know how I can get my book marks to show back up? Everything else is there but them lol. I also vote sticky!
here is one that I have found. I am on the recently released leak which should be the same as the official RUU. I notice that when you try to type the word (I'm) with word prediction on it doesn't want to do it. Can someone on the official ruu try this. I am using the compact qwerty by the way. I didn't change any setting either.
also what is the general consensus on the official 2.1. I see some complaints but what do you guys like about it. Maybe likes and dislikes. I am not trying to hijack but just curious.

Typing "I'm" works fine while typing a text to a friend.

thanks for the quick reply. I am assuming the differences between the official and leak had some last minute fixed. I would used the RUU but I just don't want to lose all the goodies with root.

Did you try this on compact qwerty by the way?
Compact = Portrait = Sprint logo up north and trackball down south, right? (lol). Yes, that's how I used it.

I've had two bothersome problems:
1. I cannot disable the Facebook contact sync. I would like the pictures, but not the people. If they're in my Google contacts...then great. If not, no thank you. Any one else having this trouble?
2. I've got a reoccurring daily appointment that lasts for 0 minutes (11:00 to 11:00 with a reminder, set to 0 minutes--so the reminder goes off at 11:00). The calendar was not giving me a popup, despite Google Calendar showing it. I had to recreate the event in Android and set a duration of 5 minutes with a 5 minute notification.
Is there a thread yet for a single list of issues with the new 2.1 update for the Hero? If not, here are some to start us off...
- Rumored issues with Bluetooth not working for received calls (can anyone confirm they're having this issue?)
- Small version of HTC Digital Clock widget has date off-center when in 24-hour format (e.g., they just hid the "AM" or "PM" but left the date left-justified...duh).
- On-screen camera controls are now ALWAYS oriented for phone to be in landscape orientation. Seriously, Sprint??? Seriously? lol
- Trackball scrolling to zoom camera no longer works...must first press the new +/- button and THEN must use the new on-screen scroll bar? WTF????
I'm quoting myself to add a new issue....
- My Hero no longer connects to the Bluetooth head unit in my car for telephone functions (still connects to audio streaming using AVCRP just fine)! The details are....
....It worked fine before the 2.1 update, but now the head unit now connects to the Hero for a second, then disconnects and reports that the phone is an "Invalid Device". I've noticed the head unit also seems to have trouble remembering the Bluetooth device name being reported by the Hero. Gets it right at first, then immediately says it can't determine the device name. Oddly, the Bluetooth audio streaming profile (AVCRP, etc.) still works and connects fine.
I had the "leaked" version and now have the "official" version and so far I haven't noticed many differences. There are some issues that I have so far though with 2.1 in general (had the same issues with the leaked version):
1) When I receive a call, it can take 3-5 seconds from the time the ringer starts, until the screen actually shows who is calling. I've missed about 5 calls so far because of this. It doesn't happen all the time, but probably 90% of the time. It's very annoying...
2) I have Advanced Task killer. On 1.5 with all apps killed I would usually have around 70-85MB of available memory (depending of course on how much memory Sense wants to hog up). Once in a while when I would kill an app the available memory would shoot to over 95MB but then the phone would reboot.... NOOW when i kill apps I only have 30-45MB available!! Usually it's closer to 30 though. Wtf is that about?! What's odd is even if it shows 30MB, its not laggy as when I had 1.5 @ 30MB or memory.
3) I noticed something very very odd today... In my contact list there are people in there that I NEVER added. Their phone numbers or even BBM's are in there as well. What's that about?? How the hell did that happen. They ARE people I KNOW, but I NEVER put them in there. It seems to have something to do with the Facebook sync since there are some people in the contacts that I only know thru Facebook. But how the HELL did it get their phone numbers and BBM numbers???
4) It's rebooted about 4 or so times when opening random apps.
5) Not an important issue at all, just something I noticed is that the phone numbers don't show the dashes in the correct spot. Like it'll say 5555555555 instead of 555-555-5555. Again nothing big but a bit odd..
Other than some lag still here and there like going from portrait to landscape, and the landscape keyboard itself most of the issues from 1.5 are taken care of. It is WAY faster than 1.5. I also noticed that it is a tad faster than even the leak, but that could be in my head. I love the "helicopter view" for the home screen. Some new options are great too. I love the new market and the ability to install some apps that weren't available for 1.5. I can't say I'm crazy happy with it mainly because of the first two issues I'm having but I am happy with it. Overall I'm glad to not have 1.5 anymore.
Anyone else having the same issues I'm having? Any answers to any of these things?
Kind of unrelated, but I downloaded Handcent again. How do I shut off the factory messaging app? Some guy at sprint did it for me a week after I got the phone back november. I have no idea how to do it and the dude doesn't work there anymore. It's annoying getting the same message from two apps. It also makes it a tad laggy.
UPDATE:: Ok JUST got a phone call and this time it didn't show ANYTHING, just a black screen. It just kept ringing. What's worse is the screen was unresponsive!! Not even the physical green phone button worked! WTF?! This popped up though:
Activity Phone in (process com.androidphone) is not responding :Force close or Wait
Happened twice

Did they come from your Google contacts online?
And yes, I've had one random reboot and a few force closes since upgrading as well...
Well, if you didn't back up your book marks, they're all going to be gone, and you'll have to hunt down all the websites and re-mark them all.
Is there an easy way or how would i go about remarking them? I connected my phone to the computer and loaded the memory card but all i get is the thumbnails from the bookmarks. They dont give me any address.

If you go into the settings menu for the Sprint message app, you just uncheck the notification box. Then when you reply to a text choose Handcent as the default app. That should do it. I use Handcent myself and love it.

I've done that, which is great... but they're not gone. They're only hidden in the People application. If you go into the Dialer, you should still find them there. I think if you use the "dial by name" feature, you can find them.

I don't believe so. I can't say to be honest. It really doesn't bother me, I just find it weird that it would know these people's BBMs and phone numbers. How would it know that information? That I can remember I don't even remember there being an option to put your phone number anywhere on your profile. I could be wrong..
@jonwlewis Wow... I'm an idiot lol. That should have been a no brainer lol. Thanks!
How many MB's available does everyone else have with the update? I restarted my phone and now its back to 70's.
Not sure if this is an issue or my lack of knowledge of where a setting is to control this....anyway I updated, setup gmail. All my contacts are back...but now there is an option to text message every single phone number for every contact....home numbers, business numbers, fax numbers.
Is there a setting for this or is this a 2.1 issue?
Im having the same problem with Facebook hijacking my Contacts, thanks Google, HTC, Sprint, and Facebook, whichever of you aholes did this. I prefer to keep my contacts seperate, at least give people the option.

Does anyone know how the actual phone numbers and BBM's of the people from facebook are getting into the contacts? In other words how did it get the numbers?
Hmm just right now notification light starts to blink, phones says 2 missed calls. Times of those calls....one 2 hours ago and the other 2.5 hours ago. Funny I just looked at my phone 30 seconds before that and multiple times within that 2 hours period and no notification was there. O'well.
can't snooze the alarm anymore by hitting the volume buttons. Now i have to open my eyes in the morning to tap snooze on the screen...
at least your alarm went off. I had one set for 5:30 (when my wife gets up) and a 2nd set for 6:45 (when I get up). neither one went off. anyone else have this problem?

YES!!! Exactly! This is another problem here....they now FORCE you to either pick up the phone and focus to find the small "Snooze" button on the lit-up touch screen (which doesn't make it easy to fall back asleep, by the way) or apparently to touch the track ball. This sucks! I LOVED the fact that I could fumble for the phone half-asleep and just feel for the volume buttons to snooze the alarm. What if someone is farsighted or elderly??? Doesn't make it easier to snooze if you have to jar yourself awake looking for that ridiculously TINY Snooze button they put on screen...
Adding it to the list....

Nick...the list is growing with things you WOULD consider a "defect." However, I must say that I'm not entirely sure I agree with you. If they changed a particular feature in 2.1 on the Hero that wasn't (apparently) tested much for usability, and/or is causing a large number of people to be dissatisfied, then it's an "ISSUE" and they should know about it. For example, an increasing number of people are complaining that we can no longer snooze an alarm by fumbling for any button on the phone. You have to fully wake up, read the screen, focus on the SMALL "Snooze" button on the touch screen, and press either it or (apparently) the track ball.
You might not consider that a "defect" but what if someone is elderly or farsighted and can't find that tiny Snooze button they put up? You don't feel and issue such as this this warrants cataloguing here as well as discussion with HTC and Sprint?

I understand your point however exaggerated it is. I will compile an official list for everyone so we can all complain about the changes in mass.

With the camera you can actually zoom in by sliding your finger up or down on the screen anywhere. It doesn't have to be on the "Knob" so yes you can still one hand take pics BUT the landscape only thing is killing me!
- Bluetooth headsets and other bluetooth capable devices not recognizing, pairing or streaming.

Also, anytime I try to go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications I get a force-close, therefore I have to uninstall apps through the market or download an uninstaller from the market to remove them.

Hmm....actually, Nick, I'm finding it VERY HARD to turn the camera sideways and hold it in one hand while working my thumb over to the screen and scrolling to zoom. In fact, it's nearly impossible...I don't know about anyone else, but I still have to put my other hand on the phone to not drop it (much less keep it steady for a photo) while trying to perform a one-handed photo. I still say that the new controls, while sort of neat, make it impossible to use the phone to take a photo one-handed.
If they would restore a portrait-mode control layout, then I'd be happy with this, however, because I think one handed operation would be possible.

Even though I tend to always take pictures in landscape mode, it is still idiotic that they don't give us the preference to have it either way. It hinders user experience, and lets hope they push out a fix in the near future.

I didn't say it was a fix, but it is an update to the problem as its a new feature we didn't know we had.
Also about getting official and sticky around these parts. You have to ask. A regular user does not have the necessary access to these functions.
What is with the short vibrate when you're making a call? It's annoying!! Someone suggested turning of "haptic feedback" in the settings. I did that & it hasn't made a difference. Anyone else have suggestions?
