Default One Click Root For FROYO Intercept for WINDOWS!!

***If you have custom recovery you can flash a kernel that provides root and you can skip this. This is for someone wanting root that doesn't want to flash a kernel.******

Thanks to Kuroyoma on SDX! You do this at your own risk and for more questions or discussion on this topic please visit One Click Root And Unroot For Froyo Intercept For Windows (Updated)

Got a working One-Click root here for all to enjoy. This also includes a One-Click unroot as well. Updated the scripts and the process should be quicker for everyone.

Just download, unzip, make sure USB Debugging is turned on, and double click on START_ROOT.bat and it will start the rooting process. There is a good chance you will have to run this more than once to get it to work. I tested this and it worked great.

To Unroot follow the same steps but double click on START_UNROOT.bat and it will do the rest. Again may have to run more then once.

In the unlikely event that we get 2.3 on Intercept, I assume it should be mentioned that "unrooting" is not the same as restoring to stock, as any bloatware you've deleted will still be gone?

Still, I'll probably break down and root soon.

No it won't restore you back to stock but the tar from the 2.2 upgrade you can flash to get back to stock to apply the update will. This is strictly for users who wish to root.

I don't suppose there is something like this for us VMUSA users who are still stuck with 2.1 for the time being?

Root, or 2.2? Last I checked, you guys have the ability to follow the sprint steps to get 2.2 (reflash to sprint stock rom, then upgrade to 2.2) but you lose your ability to do mms (that's picture mail right?). Hopefully that'll be worked out soon, if it's possible to fix.

I personally temp-rooted to delete sprint crapware (it won't let you uninstall "Sprint TV", for example) but there's a lot of cool programs that require root (like to take screenshots of your phone's "desktop").

What kept you from removing Sprint TV. There is a widget and the tv app that both need to be removed but it should allow that just fine. I will admit I haven't tried yet myself though. The wife is making me spend time with her instead of my gadgets mostly this week. I am waiting for her to get sick of knowing they are still there even if I hid them with LPP. Rooting can be done whether you have 2.2 or not. These are simply the steps taken that have worked. Also for the VM intercept guys if you upgrade to 2.2 this worked as well I believe. For questions please see the original thread though on SDX. You may learn something else in the process.

No, I meant that you can't remove crapware (like sprint tv) without rooting. I'm aware you can root 2.2, but was joking that in the event we got 2.3, and considering what a huge pain it was to get back to stock for 2.2 (initially), that I was slightly hesitant. (but not really)

Oh Sorry I misunderstood. Going back should be find as long as we can always keep a stock.tar file for each maintenance release that goes unmodified. That way it is a simple quick flash back to stock to get an upgrade. Moment users now all about flashing with SwUpdate. Before the last release it was a weekly thing cause that was how big the dev group got. New stuff was constant. That is what makes the custom recovery so nice. You can keep back ups and then flash a zip file.

Root, I still have 2.1 and would like an easy 1-click-root. I know I'd mess something up along the way if I did it the normal way

Not sure of a one click for 2.1. Same idea though and with custom recovery applied on 2.1 it is as easy as flashing a zip.

On 2.1 I had used the wonders of z4root... just google it and download the free app. It is no longer on the market cus google felt the urge to be an ass... But it is painless and 1 click, plus its on the phone, with the same process to unroot, should you need to.

Can anyone confirm this works on 2.2.1? I've heard 2.2.1 blocked some of the rooting methods.

Default works for 2.2.1

I have android version 2.2.1 and I tried it last night. I'm a total noob, but I think it worked because titanium backup works.

Yep, I think you got it! Plus, don't you have a Superuser icon in your drawer now?

I've never done anything like this before. I never jailbroke my ipod touch, never rooted/hacked a phone, etc. If it doesn't work right, how easy is it to undo/fix? I'd hate to have to shell out for a new phone, even under the insurance. Will I need to undo it before letting 2.3 install if the intercept even even gets that update down the road?

Yep, if you deleted any of the crapware on the phone. The update checks to see that all the default-installed bloat is still on there before it will update.

Has anyone gotten Z4Root to work after going to 2.2? I was able to before getting Froyo but now it just stays on the 'running exploit screen'

Billkwando, you said you temp rooted...was the with z4root? I still have the app saved from when I temp rooted before the upgrade, but now it's hanging on the 'running exploit' screen. Is that what you used?

Ended up doing the Super One Click way and I'm permanently rooted. Took an hour or so b/c you have to try over and over and over until it goes all the way through, but so far it is worth it. Hope I don't regret rooting (like if they do another update to the Froyo update etc), but my plan is to get a Shift when my upgrade time gets here, so at least this will let me make this phone more useable until then . Thanks for your help!

Now I get to figure out what I want to do now that I'm rooted!! Titaniam back up has already been added...that tool really is great. I was hoping I'd be able to move some of the protected apps to the sd card (like think free and where), but it looks like I'd have to uninstall them and then add them from the market, or is there another app for it?

I used the program superoneclick and now this one and it is not working on my phone. I keep getting some kinda freaking message about ADB is not an external or internal command, operable program or batch file. I have tried everything to no avail. Please help.

You litterally have to just keep trying...and throw in a couple reboots. And sometimes I think I woke it up and kept it running by openning up explorer type apps on my phone (but that was probably just my imagination). Took about and hour or so to finally have it go all the way to finish. NEver would have kept trying except I heard that many other people had that trouble as well.

Good luck!

Question

Tried this and had quite a range of results, with none being seemingly successful..

Everything downloaded fine, and after about 5-10 times of trying it finally said it worked, and gave me the prompt to restart the phone. Went on with it, phone restarted, and nothing seemed to happen. No busybox app, or anything that indicated it worked. Then I realized I hadn't downloaded any drivers (which may have already been on there, as when I ran the BAT file it showed the device show up).

So now I download the drivers and try it again, after several attempts it said it worked. Yet when I restarted the phone it started acting EXTREMELY (and still currently is) laggy, and the phone will barely function properly without the battery having to be taken in and out and still no seeming root.

Am I missing something that shows I'm rooted? Anyone else have this problem or am I just lucky number one..?

EDIT:

Taking into consideration the problems I've already had, would it be any use to try this form?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

Thanks in advance, first post here and hoping it's not my last!

I've been too chicken to try. Do you have a superuser icon?

Try installing Titanium Backup. That'll tell you real quick if you're rooted. You just need to open it.

Thanks for the quick reply! I wasn't able to even get to the market in the state my phone was, but luckily I was able to start it up in safe mode, try the unroot bat and even though it seemed it didn't work.. the phone is working normally again. Downloaded Titanium Backup now and it is stuck on the screen "Searching for root rights" or something of the sort, meaning it's probably now not rooted. :P

I had to run the "start-root" about 10 times. I was getting ready to give up... Then BAM it worked!

I love you from the sub-cockles of my heart! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Default Going Back

Ok, so thanks for this info. I have VM Intercept with 2.2. So my first question is would this work with VM?

Also, I have the official update file. If I wanted to go back to stock, could I unroot my phone, and then run the official update file? would it go back to stock?

Thanks, please answer

I don't know what to tell you. I rooted with slapkernel. There's a thread on it.

EDIT: no clue if it matters, but when i start the phone, only samsung, a swirl ending in samsung, and the word samsung again show up. no "sprint" or "virgin mobile" crap, tho the phones on sprint right now.

No reflashing, no reinstalling, and no lost data. Mine starts up the same as yours. No mention of Sprint.

BTW I'm still running the stock rom, bloatware and all. I guess the phones so craptastic nobody bent over backwards coming up with a rom with guaranteed compatibility.

My instructions are, frankly, pretty fantastic. I spent a ridiculous amount of time writing them, so if you can't follow them I can't help.

Edit: No, not the right post. The one stickied in the forum you're in right now.

It's about an inch down from this thread on the root forum page. When I said you didn't have to flash I meant a rom, sorry.
