Default 6 month upgrade idea

So as we al know, you have to wait a full year to upgrade phones. Technology moves a bit faster these days and sometimes you want something new to play with. So lets say a new phone is $549 retail and $149 for new customers. What if there were a 6 month upgrade price of say $249? You could use it once and then get your usual upgrade at the 1 year mark. I wouldnt mind paying an extra $100 to get a new phone sooner than a year. Thoughts?

personally, I don't find the innovations from generation to generation all the enticing enough want to upgrade even once a year even though I have that option.

Wouldnt work. They are already taking a hit on phones as it is, and make up for it on the contract. All an earlier upgrade would do is drive monthly price up. Thumbs down.
