Have your mom try out a few in a corporate store with live models. She may like the Nexus, SGS3, Evo LTE or prefer to wait.

Are you gonna use the upgrade for yourself or your mom? Assuming you get the new phone using your mom's upgrade, what will your mom be using? If the phone is for you, there 's really no point of using the upgrade until all the superphones are out. The sgs3 will still be around after all the superphones are announced and out. I'd say, by end of November, the whole sprint lineup will be out and available.

If the upgrade is for your mom, I'd still wait, but it all depends what her needs are, which will likely be different from your needs.

I would wait. We may actually see quadcore LTE by end of year.

If it's for you and you don't mind waiting, I'd definitely wait...if you can afford to. Asking the question, "is there going to be anything better than (insert name of Sprint superphone) anytime soon?..." is really an extremely subjective question. I don't think anybody can really answer what is "better" because new phones with "better" specs are almost releasing every 3-6 months. It really comes down to your needs and what is most important to you.

You could jump on getting the SGS3 or LTEvo right now, but are you the type that would look 4-6 months down the line and feel like the phones being released at that time are "better" and you should have waited? Nobody can really answer that question, except yourself. If this describes how your personality is, then I don't think you'll ever have a feeling like you have the "best phone."...Hahaha.

Bottom line, turnaround for tech/mobile phones is way quicker than it used to be. Every single year, the engineers in the mobile industry seem to find a "better" way to do things and provide "better" specs in the phone. It's so fast nowadays, phones don't hold as much "future-proof" status as they used to, which is why companies like Best Buy came up with "buy back" programs, so customers can guarantee that whatever they're buying, they can trade in and upgrade later down the line, without the hassle of trying to sell that product on their own.

I'm kinda puzzled why nothing has been announced on the Motorola Photon Q. Typically speaking, we'd see phones release around 1 month after they've passed through the FCC. The Photon Q passed through (or was announced to pass through) on July 5. Maybe they're waiting to announce the phone after the 14 day return period has passed on the white LTEvo?

I was hoping for a release on August 5 (or earlier), but I doubt that happens if no word has spread since the phone passed through the FCC 3 weeks ago. Aside from the single leaked qwerty phone picture, there really hasn't been much confirmation on the specs at all.

Yup. I like the programs for the "convenience." Better part about Sprint's program is, you don't have to purchase it. Only drawback to Best Buy's program.

I've even considered purchasing my next TV from Best Buy, just because of that program...LOL.

Maybe the "Maxx" version of the Razr HD will be available as the next Nexus for Sprint?...LOL...I know I'm dreaming, but the thought of having a device on Sprint that sports a 3300mah battery (even if it's non-removable), just as thin (if not thinner) as the Razr Maxx, w/ the specs of the HD would be awesome!

According to FCC Filing, DROID RAZR HD Will Have a 2530mAH Battery Inside – Droid Life

Anybody notice how one day, Verizon updated phones like the Rezound and out of the blue, people suddenly had world phones?

I don't know how they did that - some exploitation of LTE being a GSM technology?

Thoughts on this for Sprint, anyone?

http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-rezound-is-a-world-phone-works-on-gsm-networks/

I notice that the radio options under the hood for the LTEvo are very broad like that as well.

HTC Rezound Is A World Phone, Works On GSM Networks – xda-developers

I notice that the radio options under the hood for the LTEvo are very broad like that as well.
Recently happened for the Moto Razr phones too
ICS, World Phone Capabilities Come to Verizon’s Droid Razr and Razr Maxx

In that article, they clearly state that the phones have SIM cards, but it's unclear if Verizon will be unlocking to allow swapping the SIM for use Internationally.

I do know that the MoPho has already been proven to work internationally in different countries, but it was also marketed as a "world" phone.

I don't even know if it'd be worth it on Verizon phones. Sprint's roaming fees are ridiculously expensive, so I can't even imagine what Verizon's would be.

The LTEvo for example has an embedded sim (all GSM or LTE phones have a sim).

Nothing requires a separate sim card.

Photon Q will definitely be a World Phone (international GSM capable). Stated big and bold, it seems to be one of the more unique features of the device. Along with the physical QWERTY keyboard, this device screams business phone. Not trying to pigeon hole it though.

The S4 Pro listed on the last spec sheet that I saw was an APQ type, not an MSM -iow, an application processor without any mobile modems built in.

The Verge article linked is for that model, the APQ8064.

The quad core by LG is going to use the S4 Pro and separate modem silicon; LG took the same approach on their last high end phone.

Yes it will, he lucked out that a company is still making a "high end" physical QWERTY phone. In a bit of an exaggeration, they have all but gone the way of the dodo at this point.

I'm figuring it releases in 2 weeks.

-EDIT- Did anybody notice that it's only .06 thicker than the MoPho? That doesn't sound "as thick" as the early "leak" information that was being reported.

That's why the MoPho will become my dedicated phone for travelling internationally On top of that, it'll be my dedicated media player domestically. This is all after I decide on which phone to upgrade to.

I was thinking more about this and, if Sprint wants to lock in some customers with the MoPho Q, they'd have to release the phone prior to Samsung's August 15 announcement (whatever it is) or the August 30 date that is supposed to be linked to the Galaxy Note 2.

My best guess for release on the MoPho Q is August 5 or August 12 (if not earlier).

I'm so not impressed with the MoPho Q. It's a downgrade. It's got that stupid physical keyboard. It has 8gb (at least) less internal storage. It has a non-removable battery. It looks like that SIM card is non-removable too as a consequence of not being able to remove the battery. That means you are stuck paying Sprint's absolutely insanely outrageous international roaming charges if you travel with it.

Oh and don't forget it's the same damn screen. No upgrade for that? Really?

And webtop is gone baby gone...

Oh and the only bone for customers is the unlocked boot loader. But who cares about that when you are getting a downgrade?

I'm so disappointed. It looks like my next phone won't be a Motorola.

I think Motorola really screwed the pooch on this one.

MOTOROLA knocked one out of the park w/the RAZR MAXX for VZW. Why they rolled out gimped models for SPRINT & AT&T is anyone's guess.

Like many of you, personally, I am not interested in the Moto Photon Q. That being said, Sprint is (err... was) in desperate need of a high-end phone with a physical/qwerty keyboard, as well as a World Phone. So, it makes sense they launch one. I think that the Moto Photon Q certainly fits that bill. It is exactly what many people want/need.
I'm loving my EVO LTE, but would love to see Sprint and Moto bring something that competes with it. At least this gives me no regrets on purchasing my new EVO LTE. The EVO is awesome... battery, screen, speed, camera... list goes on... is amazing! :-) Good luck with your new phone hunt guys.. I found mine! Long Live The EVO!

Motorola, you completely blew this one. You'll be lucky to get a couple thousand sales for this gimped piece of junk! MoPho Q! What a joke!

Yeah the Photon Q is not my cup of tea. I'm very satisfied with my Nexus. The Q will please those that need a keyboard though.

Except by Sprint themselves.

Sorry, but the MoPho Q is a joke for those of us who hoped for a real upgrade. Anyone wanting a decent LTE phone with a keyboard on Sprint might go for it, but international travelers would be advised to stay far, far away and the wash in spec bumps/downgrades is an insult to us Photon owners.

Lol that is awesome. The info gave us in store not but 2 hours ago had no specs Other than world phone and an enhanced screen, along with some smartapp features. Technically that info was released yesterday...maybe the website was up today?

This is a prime example of what I refer to when people ask me about releases. When I do have solid info, Sprint usually isn't the source

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a "piece of junk," because I know there are many people in the world (especially the business world) that still have a need for a physical qwerty keyboard phone. That said, it's definitely not an "upgrade," per se, from the original MoPho.

As long as this thing has the same pricetag, or lower, as the Atrix HD, I think it'll do decent sales for Sprint.

No worries, Mr. Ed. It's completely understandable. I've said it before, but that's one thing that makes it so hard for reps at the ground level. Sometimes, I wish the "executive" offices would take more consideration into giving their reps at least a slight heads-up on info that will be going out through Publicity/Marketing on official press releases. Little things like that make a world of difference for the reps on the ground floor to provide more thorough customer support (and save them from getting into harassing conversations with customers that carry a sense of "entitlement").

This is so completely odd to me.

Motorola ATRIX HD LTE heading to Virgin Mobile | MobileSyrup.com

Virgin mobile (Sprint owned subsidiary) gets the Atrix HD, which isn't quite an upgrade from the MoPho (w/ less internal storage), but no real "upgrade" to the original MoPho on Sprint? Someone is really misinforming Dan Hesse of what will be "in demand."

There isn't. Virgin Mobile USA started as a prepaid experiment by Richard Branson's British Virgin Mobile company. They leased spectrum from Sprint and launched a pay-as-you-go prepaid model in the US. It was fairly successful. But then Virgin Mobile pulled out (around the time the record stores shut down) and Sprint bought them up. So now Sprint owns the prepaid carrier VirginMobileUSA and just keeps the name.

My first carrier was Virgin Mobile USA. That's one of the reasons when I went to a full contract I went to Sprint. I knew from experience what sort of coverage I'd get on the network. I had about a decade to learn and travel with it.

The phone quoted is going to Virgin Mobile in the UK. VM USA doesn't have LTE. At least not until Sprint gets it first.

I'm confused. This would mean that there is a non-domestic US provider for Virgin, but I'm gathering that you meant Virgin Mobile UK and Virgin Mobile US are not affiliated.
