Ok, yes, absolutely correct, but here's the thing - as soon as I show her something not made by HTC or Samsung, she's going to be asking about ALL of the available phones.

So, I want to be totally prepared. Like me, she's been known to change her mind.

And because her other need in addition to good texting is a good camera, I'd be remiss to not be helping her notice her upgrade options in that area.

Myself, I think that the Mach looks perfect for her in the keyboard department, I can't wait to try it out myself to be honest.

She's happy with her Shift's pictures - most of the time.

Same old story - no perfect phones so we have to choose from the ones that are close enough.

Ahhh...I see now. Well, we're all here to help give you good arguments for any of them (especially the ones that will steer her in the direction you feel would come back with the least amount of complaints and headaches...LOL). Always lookin' out for AF brothers and sisters.

I'll steer her away from stuff that I think is junky or will cause support problems for me - but I won't try to steer her towards anything.

I was surprised when she chose the Shift over the Epic but I ought not have been. She just knows what's right for her.

Well, at least you have prices to take into consideration now:

Far as I'm concerned, all prices are without mail in rebates - you know - that slimy practice that they stopped for months and are now pulling again??

Yup...which is why I take my business, as far as phone purchase is concerned, to the 3rd parties. I got burned with MIR's too many times.

Sprint wanted me to "prove" to them that I hadn't used any upgrades. Long story; I won't bore you with the details but suffice it to say, I get pretty heated any time I have to "prove" anything because they have a database with 14 yrs of my money in it. THAT'S proof enough.

I do a lot of reading and came across a site called planetfeedback. I decided since nothing else was working I'd try this route. Sign up, select the company you have a beef with, post your issue, click send. Within a day I rec'd a call from someone who can act on behalf of Dan Hesse. Not only did they sort out my nightmare but they also saw to it I got my rebate that I didn't know was available. When I purchased my phone, rebate was never mentioned.

The site still exists. The woman who contacted me researched 3 yrs in less than 48 hrs. Her findings were amazing. A rebate wasn't the only thing I got.
Try it Early; it cant hurt.

Isn't it the same as the Nexus 4? I'm thinking with Gorilla Glass 2 it shouldn't be an issue (At least not from the demos I have seen of GG2). I usually take pretty good care of my phones, but for some reason I dropped my GSII a lot. Even with that I'm not going to be putting a case on my N4, I'll take my chances.

That's why I buy all my phones at BestBuy... Never a mail in rebate, price matching, and if you do get a warranty it is better than anything through a carrier.

Yea, last phone was from Bestbuy, one before from Radio Shack. I'm going to try that feedback site for sure.

Gorilla Glass 2? Please. Ever seen a Shift? Metal outer casing on the top part of the slider, recessed retro speaker grill, typical HTC style? WifelyMon's metal case is crimped over the speaker grill, that's how hard it's been dropped. (And it was in a case.)

Double the glass, you more than double the chance of breakage (reliability statistics fact). If something has a 50/50 chance of making it, and you double the susceptibility, it gets a 25% chance of making it. Exactly why you can see so many iPhones with broken glass.

Others find it attractive, I find it ugly, precisely because it represents ridiculous design to me.

But, that's just me.

I wish I had known about that site when Sprint lost my phone number completely (pre-Dan Hesse)...I mean, they released my phone number into a general pool and someone swooped it up before they could retrieve it from the system. I was still able to negotiate a good settlement, but sounds like that website would've been much easier.

The only thing I didn't like about planetfeedback is that your post is visible to all but once rec'd by the powers that be (the company you have a beef with) everything is private via phone. If you choose to let the readers know the outcome; that;s your business. People (other members) get to reply to your post.

That part to it is was neither here nor there for me since none of them could grasp what I was ticked off about. My suggestion; if you choose to reply to people who comment--keep a cool head cause opinions are like ........we, all got one..... you know what I mean.

I second Best Buy for purchases and Insurance.

About GG2, it's thinner, but it doesn't offer any more protection than GG1 did. Had they made it as thick as GG1, it may be stronger, but they seem to be going to thinness like everyone else.

The next EVO will likely be something similar to the Butterfly J or Droid DNA, but I don't anticipate that release until June.

Personally, I hate all of this carrier exclusive non-sense. It's likely the primary reason for the downfall of the CDMA Nexus program.

I think the primary reason for the CDMA Nexus downfall is Verizon. They handled the Galaxy Nexus horribly.

They might announce something, but it may not release until after the New Year.

Sprint let Google do whatever they wanted/needed. The problem has to with CDMA, which is what makes the update process longer.

Verizon wouldn't let them have Google Wallet, wanted to install bloatware, held back updates, etc..

Well I'm already looking forward to some new tech coming 2013. I'm guessing 1080p is going to be the theme.

That and wireless charging seems to be gaining popularity. I see it being a standard feature next year.

I'll wait on that, thanks.

You do have a good point there about the sd cards. This one reason I will not buy a Nexus phone even though I really want one.

Looks like 5 inch might end up being the standard for the next gen of phones. And Note 3 going up to 5.8?... I don't know if I could handle a bigger phone than the Note 2 (which is already on the borderline of "too big" for a daily phone). Unless they manage to keep the form factor the same or somehow make it even smaller overall, I think anything bigger would be too much for me. Only realistic way for me to conceivably work with a 5.8 inch screen'd phone is if they went completely edge to edge and also took out the hard home button.

Samsung might be prepping a 5.8" ClorOLED display with 16 subpixels RGB matrix, can we say Note III?

I remember an SNL skit for Jeffrey's that included a one inch flip phone when smaller was in.

For a phone, some of this sounds like the same thing in the other direction.

A smaller bezel would help if the size was 5.8". Make the front almost all screen. I would love that.

If you are referring to the multi-window feature, the update has already been pushed to the Note II.

considering the optimus g just released on the 11th and the galaxy nexus back in april, I bet the sprint nexus 4 won't be for a while unless Sprint opted for another nexus from a different oem. Based on Sprint's statement of releasing 15 lte devices for the year, they're likely done for the year as far as announcements.

It also depends on if Google wants to go the CDMA route this time around.

so far my personal research shows no intent by google to make a cdma version....and being that the nexus 4 is nearly identical to the g....I just dont see it happening.

Oh well. The Nexus 4 was out of the running once I found out about the non removable battery and little storage.

I feel the same way. I really don't understand why Google likes to do their phones like that? I know that most Android users don't really care about memory, but a non removable battery on a phone that has so many features makes no sense to me. I was at my sister-in law's house yesterday and everyone there after a few a hours had there phone on a charger. I was cool with the 40% left on my phone because I have an extra battery. I would love a Nexus device, but not the way Google currently does them.

Just saw your post 'bout this now, Tommy. Totally agree. If they reduce the bezel and the form factor stays the same, I'd love that also. I'm wondering if the Note II's being included in the new apple lawsuit will have them change the form factor to dedicated on screen buttons and get rid of the soft buttons and hard home button.

I don't believe this trend is going to change any time soon either. Google is selling a device that is being sold under market value with high end specs with a few exceptions. Those exceptions will likely always be storage and battery from here on out.

The lawsuits don't have anything to do with the buttons, but anything is possible. I would love on-screen keys.

Not to mention that the sheer demand for the phone is showing there is indeed a sizable population of phone buyers that is willing to accept these compromises if the rest of the hardware is above average (and offered at an unheard of price).

To be honest, though, I expect a 32gb Nexus 4 to make an appearance in the spring. I also think there's a decent chance that Sprint will get their own version of the Nexus 4 around the same time.

Note III would be awesome with on-screen buttons because it would actually allow people to use the s pen with the soft keys (still don't get why Samsung didn't think about that part of it).
