I'm getting 30-36 hrs on my SGS III,but,I'm using a car battery :

Amazon.com: ZeroLemon Samsung Galaxy S III 7000mAh Extended Battery + Free Black Extended TPU Full Edge Protection Case(Compatible with Samsung Galaxy S III GT-i9300, AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 Samsung i747, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 Samsung i535, T-mobi

While I'm OK w/this option, most are not,for various reasons.MOTOROLA has proven that decent battery life is possible, time for the rest to step it up more than an incremental notch or two.

Let's hope this year's crop is somewhere in the ballpark.

Marketing to the rescue.

No one anywhere is getting an octacore.

The Sammy chip is a dual quadcore, not an octacore.

There is a world of difference.

One quad is A-15 architecture, the other is a slow A-7, designed to save power. They won't be tricked into running at the same time, it'll be one or the other.

Initial reports of the One with the Snapdragon 600 give it high marks for battery life and very high marks for speed via benchmarks and feeling of no-lag fluidity.

Would therefore expect the same of the SGS4 with the Snapdragon 600.

The design goal of the new dual quadcore Exynos is for the same high performance and longer battery life. On paper, it could work well, but we won't know until it gets used and reported.

Won't matter to us if we can't get it, that will be academic.

Lots of people probably won't be ok with not getting an octacore, and like the same non-difference of the slower quad vs. faster dual core in the SGS3, it'll take a just a little while for the general population to settle down about it, in my opinion.

Yup...just like T-Mobile's "4G" (e.g. HSPA+)...ROFLMAO. I mentioned that being a marketing gimic in another thread, but somehow arguments were trying to be made that HSPA+ is 4G, which is not true...LOL.

Um... actually, HSPA+ is every bit as 4G as LTE is, have been since the December 2010 dispensation by the ITU:

ITU redefines 4G to include LTE, WiMAX and HSPA+

The 4G spec was a moving target and its definition and ratification was an on-going nightmare for years.

When Sprint decided to go with WiMax for 4G, that was expected to be ratified as final. By the time the Evo 4G came out, the ITU had moved on and were well on their way to deciding that only WiMax 2 and LTE Advanced (both of which are available exactly nowhere).

Competition against WiMax hit fast and hard in the form of HSPA+ and LTE.

Then the 4G spec hit and something else hit the fan with it.

Today, we have LTE Advanced being hailed as "True 4G" and the ITU has started to go along with that nonsense, invented from whole cloth by the mouth-breathing writers for the blogosphere.

Meanwhile, the whole Faux G snark remains whenever this or that is brought up, but the fact remains - according to the standards body that is the only deciding authority authority, HSPA+, WiMax and LTE are all 4G - even though none of them meets the 4G specs.

Is what it is.

Yeah, I read that the ITU acknowledged it as "4G"...but it was initially considered a 3G technology because it was based off 3G connectivity.

I've heard of such beasts existing in the wild, once upon a time.

NOKIA comes to mind, not sure which models,as all my duhphones were either MOTO or SAMSUNG,(the freebies, nothing fancy), pre-smartphone era.

Believe me,I definitely got what I paid for w/bothbattery life not included.........

One was "affectionately" nicknamed the "PEANUT" phone, both for its shape & worth,w/battery life non-existent out-of-the-box.A wall outlet & charger were its IRON LUNG & died within minutes of being unplugged.

Glad to see things have progressed quite a bit since then.

It's related to GSM, hence the use of a sim card where LTE happens. When the carriers starting fighting for 4G mindshare, it began with the charges against LTE based on its 3G heritage. And then T-Mo came in saying that if LTE could be 4G, so could HSPA+.

We're a bit off-topic, but I don't see a big problem with just a little side chat on relevant terms on the eve of the SGS4 unveiling.

Which - after tomorrow will leave the rumor stage and this thread.

Turn, turn, turn.

High res photos of the phone that a video was posted of. clicky

I actually like the looks(minus the back) Like I said in the Phandroid post, it looks like a more refined take on the S3, mixed with the straight lines of the Note II.

I actually like the back. I just don't like the front and back together. lol. I am wondering if Sprint will allow us access to the SIM card/cards. I doubt they will. Would be nice if they did.

I actually love the look of the front and back of that thing! Very nice and clean with some style on the carbon fiber looking front and back w/ a 2-tone color scheme.

I think it's the color of the back that is making me dislike it.

Well, everyones thoughts? I like it, wish they would have explained what makes the device sturdier than before....I'm really confused there. lol I can't wait for Anandtech's breakdown of it.

AND anandtech has answered my question....if it's accurate, " The chassis is plastic, with a metal rim around the edge."

This is also interesting. Size comparison, S3-136.6mm x 70.6mm 8.6mm S4-136.6mm x 69.8mm x 7.9mm

I just finished watching the Unpacked event, the phone has a ton of features. For me I really like the camera features. The eraser and dual camera feature I could use. The screen like Orion said is gorgeous. I'm glad the phone is not a two tone color phone. Not sure if 2600mah battery is really big enough. I think they should have pushed it to 3000mah. Overall I like the phone. Now bring on the Note 3!

Anybody know what difference between the S3-Removable 7.98 Wh, and S4-Removable 9.88 Wh would be? Would it make a difference with battery life?

I thought the event was entertaining but not enough time was spent on hardware specs. Software features are "amazing!"

I don't think the camera sensor is the same as the one in the Xperia. The Xperia is f/2.4, the S4 has a f/2.2 aperture

I still carry a flip phone.

I moved my att line down to a 9.99 basic plan ....saving $480 per year....should pay for an extra device each year on Sprint....

or add it to what I am saving by my choice to quit smoking last month...which saves me
$360 a month...or $4320 per year

or the two total to just a tad more than my new truck payment

A lot of mixed reviews....then again the same was said about the S3 and we all know how that went. I actually like the design better than the S3 to be honest. There's a lot of cool features. Removable battery FTW. That's why I love Samsung. Will I get this phone? No. I'm waiting for the Note 3.

This is also interesting. Size comparison, S3-136.6mm x 70.6mm 8.6mm S4-136.6mm x 69.8mm x 7.9mm
I thought the whole presentation was underwhelming. I turned it off when they began talking about the dual camera feature. Personally, I hate TouchWiz so I will never use those features. My main concern was hardware, which the device does have an impressive spec sheet. I was shocked to hear they would have DDR3 on-board. That is awesome. However, I don't feel like the S4 as a whole offers that much more than the S3.

I think I will be sticking to my S3 for the time being. I want to hear more about this Moto "X" device at I/O before I make any kind of major decisions.

Wow HTC with a shot to the solar plexus...ouch!

HTC calls the Galaxy S4 the “Next Big Flop” — do you agree?

HTC is grasping for anything they can to steal purchases from Samsung, but I honestly don't think that will happen.

Overall, the S4 is very nice. I'm extremely happy with my Note 2, so it's interesting that this year I will be laying back and just having fun watching in the background (since I won't be swapping out until 2014 (at the earliest).

Nonetheless, I like how they were able to make the S4 thinner, but still increase the screen size. I wonder if the same train of thought will be put into the Note 3 (although, I don't know how they'd be able to go up .4 inches in screen size, but decrease the overall physical attributes)? If so, the Note 3 could steal some thunder at the end of the year.

I swear, once upon a time, companies knew better than to talk smack about the competition.

Drex, that's your field, square me away - doesn't that just ultimately advertise for the other guy?

Anyway, the race is getting interesting, now it's time to find out the truth once owners get their hands on them.

I guess next is the X and the N3.

I'm going to miss the SGS4 / One debates here, this thread is much more civil than some others.

My biggest personal thanks to everyone here on this.

Although I was a bit disappointed about them not really changing the look of the device. I think we were all expecting that, so not a dealbreaker.

So far it's the best phone spec wise I've see so far. The HTC One is still a better looking phone but the S4 just has too much going for it.

But like drex, I'm not eligible to upgrade until early 2014 so I guess I'll be sitting this round out.

The presentation was painful to watch, but,no,it won't be a flop.Just not as much excitement as the transition from the S2 to S3.

It'll sell well enough, probably again be either #1 or #2,but,may lose a bit, but, not much,of market share compared to last years' sales %.

We'll see how HTC/LG/MOTOROLA/SONY fare/gain against the two-headed beast of SAMSUNG & APPLE.

I'm gonna have to remember this tweet when the next quarter results come out. HTC shouldn't be so "sure" of themselves when neither phone has been released for consumers to buy. It just shows desperation when a company puts on a little smear campaign, on twitter or not.

It's like watching FOX NEWS & MSNBC go @ each other.

It'll benefit both,as evidenced here in this forum tonight.

However,I agree, this probably wasn't HTC's smartest move, drifting away from the Quietly Brilliant mode for a moment.

I actually like HTC being a little aggressive here.

LG's billboards & HTC's tweet ..... seems these 2 are a bit nervous.
On another note, in response to HTCs tweet someone posted on the front page that HTC was a "blinkfeed" away from chapter 11 which I thought was hysterically funny.

I have to wonder:

Who paid more for the marquee/billboard space, SAMSUNG or LG?

I think that they all do it. I was going to call it on tech, but then I remembered seeing pickup truck ads doing this.

I'm just too old school!

So long as consumers dig the winner like their favorite sports team, then these guys get to market that.

Instead of reliability. And all the features for a change, not just almost.

And honestly, I'm already seeing a little bit of "almost" in the SGS4 and the One, and Google's CFO came right out and said to expect it for the next Motorola.

I mean, c'mon, you know?

Maybe it's just me.

If they refuse to sacrifice thin, ok, no problem, how about Maxx versions (including whether removable battery or not).

They know what a lot of us root tinker for, how about an advanced menu so a lot of folks don't have to?

So long as consumers cheer their team, they get to vote themselves bonuses rather than deliver the whole thing.

And isn't that why we all came to this thread? Hoping that the next rumors finally come true?

LoL end rant, off soapbox!

LG's was on top, right? Likely, whichever of the 2 was on top.

Yes LG was on top. But wouldn't it also depend upon who wanted to advertise first? Or is it just done by bids?

Yeah I have to agree. The S4 will sell very well but people who bought the S3 here in the USA are already locked up on contract like myself until next year. So they may lose a bit of market share. But not enough to knock them off the top spot.

I'm looking forward to the N3, S5 and this X phone.

Location, size, type, bid...many factors. In this case, I'd say LG paid more, since it's in Time Square.

Funny thing is, I don't know if it was the greatest strategy. The billboard looks way too similar to the official S4 billboards, so people might just look at the big number 4 and wonder why the heck there are 4 different ads promoting the same product...so, it might have the counter effect of driving people to wait for the S4.

If I were LG, especially considering they'll be updating the Optimus G later in the year, I would've asked all of the US providers to do a limited time price drop and instead of the tagline, "LG Optimus G is here 4 you now", I would have doubled it up:

"LG Optimus G is here 4 you 4 Free NOW"

That might have drawn some people to swoop up some Optimus G's instead of waiting for the S4 in a month.
