Ya know, I was thinking today that my life would be much simpler on the phone side if I didn't know anything about them, or didn't care that I have the best. Of course I know there's always going to be a better phone around the corner; however we're in game-changing times with technology, and this next year's crop of phones is going to continue to make our choices more difficult.

Quad core processors with LTE, on-screen multitasking, NFC becoming more widely used, integrated wireless charging, car and home docks that will do just about anything we need them to in terms of connectivity, etc. The list goes on.

When technology move this fast, it usually means it will move even faster in the next couple of years before a stalemate and then another surge in advancements.

I think we're all just going to go broke!

But damn, what a way to go broke!

The phone that started my "addiction", if you will, was the HTC Mogul. I loved that little brick.

Hope about everyone else? What phone turned you to the dark side?

The phone that really started me on the path to being crazy was the HTC Touch. It got me thinking about features and touch interfaces. The Diamond was my first that got me into xda and root/roms. But it was the HTC Hero that got me into Android and I've been broke ever since, but I dont think its the dark side. Lol

The OG EVO started my addiction. To this day I still regard that phone as one of the best ever. I still use it sometimes as my backup phone.

What turned me to the dark side was Helio getting bought out by Virgin and insisting that I could not use my texting/emailing powerhouse of a feature phone, the Ocean. And that I had to go to Sprint.

Then came the Moment because I just wanted plain Android. After three replacements to get one that actually worked, my Moment WAS the dark side!

Yep. I finally got a smoker deal on a trade for my Evo in June, but it gave me two solid years of great use.

Had to learn the tech to make it work the way I wanted. End of discussion, I've been an addict ever since.

Reminds me of this golden oldie - I have an EVO Addiction...

The one that lured me to the dark side was the Crack of all things ANDROID: HUAWEI ASCEND w/CRICKET.

wow.. that was just like me..

started with HTC touch...
got the Diamond.. and started to use a tethering app.
moved to the Hero and wanted to keep tethering.. so had to learn about rooting... discovered the hero was lacking in power.
Moved to the EVO..

so 5-6 yrs of straight htc phones... and they have been great. Evo is still kicking.

but looks like i am moving on to the NOTE2. trying a Sammy.. i sure hope they dont disappoint.

I didn't go full candybar touchscreen until the EVO and I was mighty hesitant about it until the phone was released. Swype convinced me to stick it out. Before that, it was Samsung i500 pda phone (how funny is that...my last samsung phone that was my dedicated phone was a samsung with a stylus and I am coming back full circle), htc mogul, htc touch pro.

Now that it's been over 2 years on full touch and android, can't see myself going back to physical Qwerty for my phone. I'll always want a full physical Qwerty for my work stuff, but not for my phone.

My complete history
Samsung SPH i500, PPC 6700, PPC 6800 (HTC Mogul), HTC Touch, Treo 600, 650, 755p,
Blackberry Pearl, Curve, Tour, HTC Hero, Evo, Evo 3D, Motorola Photon, Samsung Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy Note 2 (10/25)

Somewhere in that lineup was the original iPhone, and i4S. The i500 opened my eyes that I'd never want to go back to a regular basic flip phone. Something that just answers calls.

As you can probably tell from these phones, some of us have been on all of the same forums together for yearssssssss.

Now, my brain is officially tired from having to reach back and remember all these phones.

Most frustrating part with the i500 was not being able to reply to texts. It was still such a great phone at the time.

You had the pda phone with stylus, right? Palm based? All the research i did back then had no answer for replying to texts.

Yep the Evo started me on this android addiction for sure. I shoved so many apps on that phone I got 'low memory' message in 5 months. I remember liking HTC's birthday reminder when the person called, that was cool to me! Haha
I remember using my one year upgrade (way back in the day) to exchange my pink flip phone for that same pink flip phone with a camera!! My word I've come a looonng way!!!

I was real excited about apps then, you know had five of each app that did the same thing!! Just overkill but I know better now...

That's weird because I remember downloading this app:
i500 Headquarters. Skins for Samsung SPH-i500 SmartPhone

But then it didn't work that well. And I remember there not being a "reply" button whenever receiving texts. That phone was actually SO awesome, but when the Mogul came out it just seemed like it'd be so much better. I guess that's a good sign how much I'll love the Note 2.

I did the same thing with the epic 4g touch. Though by the time my allotted app memory was full, i had well over 700 apps installed. I did this for a reason though, as i was testing to see if i could get it to lag. Never skipped a beat. If only i wasn't a tech geek, i would still have it. But now I'm on the sgs3 and soon the note 2. The nexus 1 started by addiction though, missed the track ball until the gs3 launched.

Considering how any new phone rumors have covered all phones so far there isn't another rumor to talk about. Don't see where any harm has been done.

Default New Digs

My 1st ANDROID was the crack baby of all ANDROIDS, the HUAWEI ASCEND, but, the phone that actually led me to that point was the MOTOROLA QA-30 HINT on CRICKET.

I was looking for desktop-style web browsing in a phone & considering where phones were @ that time, it wasn't the worst choice available, but, to say that I was disappointed w/the web browsing experience would be an understatement. Throw in the $249.99 that I paid for the phone & color me uninformed & naive. Or, perhaps more suiting :A fool & his money..............

My 20 percent discount at work. Made all the difference for me, I was paying 50 bucks a month for service through Metro PCS with a Galaxy Indulge. The phone was fine, but the lack of dev support was killing me. One day right before Xmas I saw a coupon in the break room of my job and decided to check out pricing. Turns out I'd only be paying 15 bucks more a month, plus the 3G in my area was upgraded ( I get 2mb down usually). That was enough for me. The Evo 3d was on sale for 99 bucks and I grabbed it. On top of that, a few months later I saw a Galaxy Nexus on Ebay for 200 used and took a gamble. It was worth it, as it was in flawless condition. Plus I was able to sell the Evo 3d for 150 and am currently as happy as can be. Won't be upgrading any time soon, though, not till specs take a giant leap on the Nexus line. I will never buy a non-nexus phone again.

Ok....my two cents...

My first smartphone was the Samsung Instinct. I loved that phone. About a year after getting it, though, it got wet from a canoe trip and I had to get a replacment. Then I got my second on stolen on the subway.
When I went to get another replacment, I was told it was longer available.

The Sprint store sales rep suggested the HTC Hero and I was hooked. My first android phone. I really loved it.

I then upgraded to my current OG EVO. Mostly because of it had has more memory space and a larger screen. So far, I am still rocking with my OG EVO.

I am, however, planning on upgrading to the new LTEVO, and then replacing the Blackberry I use for work with my current OG EVO.

TS, great thread title!... Okay, so the transition to Android two years ago was extremely seemless due to similarities to windows mobile. But, I couldn't believe how smooth Android was. Unlike many early adopters, I didn't want to jump over to Android even though Many of the windows mobile guys were jumping over to android. Part of me wishes I had, but I didn't want to jump on getting the samsung moment, just because ocf the Instinct experience my family member had. But we all see now how great an impact android has had on Samsung.

I was somewhat of an addict to Windows Mobile before, but Android has taken me to a ridiculous level. Particularly due to all the peeps on this forum. Thanks, Androidforums!

My first ever smart phone was the Samsung instinct. My contract with Sprint ended, i decided to try T-Mobile in my area. I then bought the Samsung behold 2. After having a few issues i decided to buy the nexus one. Loved it. Tried to return my behold 2 to get a working one when they replaced it with the Samsung vibrant (galaxy s). A few months later, lg launches the T-Mobile g2x (optimus 2x), i pick that up. They release an update the gives the new version of android but took away a few features that i loved. Ended up going back to Sprint. Got the evo 3d (it sucked imo), replaced it with the epic 4g touch. Loved it, kept that until the galaxy s3 launched. Now i have that for Sprint and metro. Metro is my personal phone, Sprint is for business. Now I'm waiting for the note 2. That will be the next phone to add to my list.

Touch Diamond started it all for me. Picked up the Hero, then the OG EVO, and now sitting on my beloved 3VO until something better comes along.

I was a Treo fanatic. Then the series was cancelled. I went with a black berry because I was on AT&T, but most of my friends went with the (I think) Hero on Sprint.

Then the EVO announcement and associated commercials came out and several friends had it and raved about how great it was compared to blackberry.

Since I hated my blackberry I switched to Sprint and got the original EVO 4G and haven't looked back.

My first Sprint phone was some Sanyo candybar thing back in 1999. I never seriously considered a smartphone until the iPhone debuted. Even then, the so-called "iPhone killers" on Sprint looked like anything but, so I stuck with dumbphones. When the Hero came out I considered it, but it wasn't until the EVO that I was sold on Android. Got one the first day (early morning activation at Radio Shack, woo) and haven't looked back since.

I started off with the I1000+ on Nextel, went through about 4 or 5 Nextel phones then I gambled on the HTC Hero.

I was hooked right away! Rooted that sucka then it was seriously over. Upgraded to the OG EVO and rocked it. Did a short stint with the 3vo, now I've got the LTEvo. Love it!

My first smartphone was the Samsung Instinct...

I loved that phone. My first got drowned in a river, replaced it with another, that got stolen on the Metro.

I went to get another replacement, and was told the Instinct was no longer available. So the Sprint salesman told me about the HTC Hero. Bought it and fell in love with Android. The only annoyance was the limited memory.

I then decided to take an early upgrade to the HTC EVO. I have had it for over a year and it is the best smartphone I have owned so far.

I am planning on upgrading to the LTEVO, and then using my current EVO as my work phone to replace the Blackberry I use for work.

I was working on a group project in college and this girl kept checking her phone. I asked what was so good about it and she showed me her HTC Hero.
A couple weeks later I couldn't stand it any longer and had to buy my own...and so began my Android addiction.

I think you are the first and only person I've seen that actually liked the Instinct. That thing was so buggy.

Probably because it was his first; nothing else to compare it too.
