Default Bad ESN/lost/found phone question

I'm on Sprint and have been reading online about phones with bad ESNs. Is there any way to activate these phones? I understand that the phone may have an outstanding balance, be lost or stolen.

I heard rooting (Android) or jail breaking (iPhone) is a work around on these phones? Any replies would help.

illegal to try and activate a phone with bad ESN. This site will not allow one to discuss such matters.

if you want more information, contact your carrier.

If you found someone phone you should return it, it is illegal to activate someone else phone, do the right thing and report it to the carrier. That is what you would expect someone to do if you lost your phone.
