ST w/ ATT sim??

I'm on Verizon and tired of paying so much for service. So, thinking of switching over to ST with the ATT option since they have the best coverage, at least where I'm at. I mostly talk, text, and use data for email, FB, ebay, and podcasts. I very rarely stream music or Netflix. Will this be a good option for me?

Also, what good ATT phones would be good to buy? I currently have a Droid Bionic that I really love so want something comparable or more.

I feel the same about paying an arm and a leg for Verizon. As for a phone, I'd get the Nexus 4.

I recommend the SGS3. It has been amazing for me with AT&T.
I have never used Straight Talk though.

I always recommend the Galaxy s2 or skyrocket for AT&T. Almost as good as the S3 and also cheaper.

Whatever you do, don't buy a phone from Straight Talk. Buy one from att that can be used on Straight Talk. Supposedly, you can take it to Walmart and they can set it up for you.
I hate the Samsung Galaxy SII that I bought through Straight Talk. It came from TracFone.

You'll save money and have the best phone if you go for the Nexus 4. Buying outright, you'll get it for half the cost of the S3, and you'll get a better phone.

The Nexus 4, like a few others have said, is a really good value and works great on Straight Talk AT&T. Otherwise, you can buy an unlocked version of almost any phone out there if you're willing to look and pay for it outright. Just make sure it uses the AT&T radio bands in the US before you buy!

And defiantly don't waste your money on one of their phones - It's worth it to buy a decent phone since you're going to be saving money with the data plan!

I use GS3 and love it. I've been with ST 3yrs. I think ST should be fine for you. Who doesn't want to save money.

Nexus 4. I would also try out the T mobile sim as well just because T mobile has much faster data speeds than ATT. Worst case your out the money for a sim card. When I first signed up for ST I got the ATT sim and was only getting about 3Mbps. I swapped to the T mobile sim and I started getting 12-18Mbps. Granted the coverage isn't as spread out as ATT but for me T mobile is well covered in my area.

Either way, ST is by far the best option for pre paid or MVNO's imo. As long as you dont abuse the program you should be fine.

Edit: have also noticed that even though the phone is connected to wifi it continues to search for a wifi signal every few seconds, thus killing the battery in a couple hours. (And, yes, the option to notify me of an open wifi network is off.)

I don't have much of anything against Straight Talk, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a cold day in July before they ever send out an OS upgrade for any of their phones.

Galaxy s2 here. I bought a T-Mobile s2; its a beast on s/t I get 10mps down avg with a Tmo sim. Who needs updates when I am running cm10.1 rooted, radio updated and an overclocked kernel?

I know this sounds crazy, but I'm actually thinking of buying a Net10 AT&T sim just as a backup. The Net10 site isn't offering AT&T sims anymore and of course we know that ST is no longer offering them. They've been OOS on the walmart site for a while now. I'm worried that if my sim needs to be replaced (does that happen??) I would not be able to find another AT&T compatible sim and t-mobile coverage is not good in my area (in fact, nonexistent in some areas). My only other option would be to go with at&t's gophone smartphone plan at $65 a month and I'm not sure I could use my nexus with that plan.

Am I crazy for spending $15 on a backup sim when I may never need it?

btw I know about the 1.5 gb limit on at&t sims on net10. Not a problem since I've never gone over 300 mb in a month, even when I was on vacation and using my phone a lot.

Do you mean the net10 sims? I was looking for an AT&T ST sim for my husband's niece and the ones on ebay were crazy expensive.

If you do meant at&t, can you share who the seller was?

Yes, sorry, those were Net10 sims. I have those as backup in case something happens to my ST sim, or if ST stops supporting AT&T entirely. Very little difference in price between the two if you sign up for auto refill.

ok thanks. I found the 99 cent sims (limit of 2) on ebay and am going to get a couple as backups. If I could use tmobile I wouldn't worry but it's so spotty here and so far I'm happy with AT&T. My husband's niece ended up with a go-phone and gave up her smartphone. Not something I'm willing to do.

I'm in the same situation, where I work is a T-Mobile dead zone. The difference is that my niece would knock me unconscious and steal my phone before she would give up a smartphone :-)

I bought an AT&T Straight Talk full sized SIM from Walmart. I then used a friend's SIM card cutter to cut it down to Micro SIM size to fit my N4. Works perfectly fine for me and cheaper than anything I saw on eBay for a pre-cut AT&T Micro SIM!

I'm still checking daily for walmart to have the ST sims in stock. If they get them, I'll probably buy one but for now I figure being out $2 for net10 backups will at least make me sleep better. These first world problems we have, eh?
