Don't mean they would be best at managing an olive garden. (Hopefully y'all get the analogy I meant) I'm done noe. I've shared my. 02. And now I'm out. Now off to xda. And hopefully the orchestra will give me any info I need about the spectrum
Wouldn't that be more like saying that the manager of McDonalds can only dictate what is allowed or not allowed in the kitchen and not in the dining room?

Rules are the same for every section, (well, a little more lax in Politics) so it shouldn't matter if a mod is a regular there or not. Same as the rules are the same for all members, doesn't matter if they are a dev or not. You have to try hard to get banned around here. Its not like the mods are out to get people, especially a dev who is contributing to the forum. Anyone who thinks they are bigger than the site of over a million members will find they may be missed, but the site will go on.

Something like that. But my radon for saying the mods should be regulars in their sections. Is because if they have an understanding of what's going on in that community there's less of a chance of complaints.

I remember a few months ago. A couple spectrum users were offering to sell their phones to a developer. And mods kept closingor moving the threads. If they just wanted to sell it. I'd understand. But they were selling it to try to bring more devs on board. And if you read the post it was obvious that that's the only reason they were selling it.

Better analogy. Walmart. The manager over grocery shouldn't be in sporting goods trying totell workers what to do because they know nothing about that section

Sorry about that!

Too often, people post messages in threads to us like we are watching everywhere, and that's a logistics problem. We have about a thousand forums here. We look about at random and we rely on reports.

I don't recall that I worked the issue of the phone sales, but I recall that case and the reports coming from that very community complaining that it was a rules violation, and mods responded to the members complaints using the rules as the guide.

If we get it wrong, if there's a special case, please drop us a line. If we don't get it anyway, please drop admin a line.

We're not managers and members aren't our employees. We are all members here. The volunteer staff needs your help to help you.

The only problem with that is there are more devices than staff. And there are a lot of phones/tablets that none of the staff own. The staff are usually regulars on devices they own/have interest in.
Some staff take responsibility for forums of devices they don't own, but usually its to just move threads in proper location/fix prefixes.
The report button exists so that you use it as it should be used.
If staff were divided up to constantly watch all forums then there wouldn't be a need for a report button. And there's not enough staff to make that possible as it is.

When I first came to AF we had a guy in my phones forum that was a mod (no longer very active here) and also a developer for that device, all I can say is this situation had it's upsides and downsides. Sometimes it's best to have mods that aren't to involved in a particular device.

Yeap, when I was a Moderator most of the time we would ALL pass on decisions in the sections of the devices that we owned for those very reasons. Of course, there were times when things needed addressed immediately or when being VERY familiar WITH the section was a good thing too. Catch 22

Not to mention the rate at which new sections are added. I'm not exaggerating to say we gained about 30 new phone/tablet sections in the last three weeks.

The only solution for moderators to not make a biased decision because they own the device is having a mod who doesn't own the device to make the decision.

I am not suggesting this should be done though.

At least this thread has been good to let members see their mods point of view on things.

FYI, talked with d2a briefly. Hopefully the staff and I have made the right choice.. will un-ban him shortly.

Thanks!

What? So a bunch of guys call the moderator team a bunch of liars and manage to aggressively badger a banned member back to the forums? Couldn't he "develop" for this device on XDA and take these badgering members with him?

Many of these members have been consistently unpleasant to staff throughout this thread. I'm surprised it's been tolerated, let alone them being pandered to

He sent me an email, I sent one back, we're on the same page. It's not like it's hard to re-ban if needed.

I think we're on the same page anyway. If not, we'll adjust accordingly. Not a biggie.

Commentors can say what they want, what they see. They don't know what went on outside of what they saw, and we know that. It doesn't hurt my feelings, nor sway me to pander to anyone. This is just a case of me talking to d2a, and being ok with what he had to say, nothing more.

I know nothing about this member or his history. I'm not questioning the decision yo ban or unban. I am questioning the conduct of some members in this thread however. I hope warnings were given because honestly, it's disgraceful

I (we) try to let it roll off my back.. not really punish someone for being hateful to me unless it's repeated and abusive. People can have bad days, and I don't want people to be afraid to voice their opinions to staff here either. So, we try to let it just roll off when we can, so long as they are respectful to other members of the site.

May not always work that way, I know, but.. shrug.

I do agree with you though, for a couple people. I just hope they are more pleasant elsewhere in the community.

I would normally agree with you SUroot, but the guy in charge could have shut down and removed this thread at anytime.
It just wouldn't be right to let it go on and give warnings about it at the same time.
That said, I'm glad the few post that were given significant leeway in this instance is the exception rather than the rule.
To tell you the truth now that it seems resolved I wouldn't mind seeing this entire thread go away, I just don't feel any of the staff need offer further explanation of this issue one way or the other.
